It's hotter than Hades here during the summer, so I limit my outdoor music festivals.  I don't go camping really, unless it's in a RV or cabin.  I don't hike unless I get lost in the woods.  I do like boats, and I go when I get the chance.

I really enjoy canoeing, as long as it's leisurely canoeing.  I don't do that whitewater rafting crap.  I like to just float along drinking beer with fishing poles hung over the side.  I love to fish, so I do a lot of that.

I don't watch the Olympics.  I can't think of anything more boring.

Way to go, Popeye!  High five!

Where are some of your favorite fishing holes, slaveboy?

We just had a festival here in town a couple weekends ago.  They had two nights of music, power boat races, games for the kids and a few arts/crafts booths.  We spent an afternoon watching the races on the river while the kids played.

I have asked if we can go to the strawberry farm outside of town and pick berries, but he hates fruit so the decision has still not been made.

We are hoping to build a large flower box in the back yard next month so we can plant tulip bulbs for next spring.

The little ones are going/have gone camping, hiking, paintballing, horseback riding, drama classes....  they have been very busy.

Other than that, it is just a restful summer in our house.

Vendeval, Arkansas has lots of great places to fish.  I live in Hot Springs, so we have 3 lakes formed by the Ouachita River.  I live a mile away from one of them.  The biggest, Lake Ouachita is supposedly one of the cleanest lakes in the country.  It's a great lake for fishing.  I can drive 20 miles south of here and be on the Caddo River, which has great fishing.  The Arkansas River is an hour away from me.  I can go up into the Ouachita Mountains and there are a lot of streams and small rivers that are pristine.  If you like the outdoors, Arkansas is a great place to live.

~FR

I've had an awesome summer so far! First, my city flooded. Next, I went to New Orleans on business and lost 7 pounds in the oppressive, blow your head off humidity. Then I came home and got  pneumonia, which is what I've been doing for the past month.

Hot fun in the summertime!

(please can I have a massage?)

Besides getting to spend another summer with Himself, the absolute highlight will be getting to meet my new grandson, Jake (and getting to see ownedgirlie again!). Other than that, the plan is to visit the beaches of Algarve, check out the architecture of the Alfama district in Portugal, kiss the Blarney Stone (cuz I really need that gift of gab [:D]) and visit the Bram Stoker museum. There's more, but that's the stuff I'm looking forward to the most. [8D] Most of the summer so far has been spent getting ready for all the stuff that's going to happen over the next three or four weeks, like, learning Portuguese and bugging some of the other members here for information/advice. Subtee, I'm so sorry to hear that, what a fucking shag! I hope it's the last you've seen of the catastrophe Gorgons for a while yet... and as always: 'courage, ma belle'. I hope your summer takes a turn for the best :-).

It certainly is.  Master has been all over the state hiking and camping.  I've just lived here full-time slightly over a year but what I love about Little Rock is the music scene here.  At this summer's Riverfest we saw Paul Thorn, Johnny Lang, and Robert Earl Keen, Jr and, this coming Friday, we're going to see BB King and Willie Nelson at the Rivermarket Amphitheatre here in town.  Charlie Robison, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Hayes Carll, Southern Culture on the Skids, Hank Williams III and so many others come through here regularly and some of the local club's (Vino's, the Rev Room, Juanita's, Stickey Fingerz, etc.) are amazing places to go to catch the best acts.

As you said, it IS hotter than Hades here with a near tropical humidity.  It's hard to take some days for me, being from WV which has a bit milder climate and not such "sticky" heat.  With our busy schedules and such heat, we save the outdoor stuff for fall and spring.  The summer has been full of great music though and we're lovin' it.  Can't wait to see Willie[image]http://www.collarchat.com/upfiles/smiley/pineapple.gif[/image].............luci

Super busy summer thus far and for the rest of the smmer - a week in Aruba (absolute heaven), a week camping (a lot of mosquitos but fun), fruit picking, probably one more camping trip, at least one outdoor concert (Tanglewood), a trip to a drive in movie theater and hopefully renovating a spare room.

On the whole, I'll be quality sampling this across the London area.

And subtee, no, you don't merit a massage I'm afraid.  Let us know when you're really ill.

so far it has been one crazy, wild summer.

mainly covering touring bands, major music fests (MOB Fest and Lollapalozza next week) and CD release shows and a couple of movie premieres (did The Dark Knight last week).  plus getting one um ready for school in 3 weeks and the other for brain injured camp and having friends visiting from the west coast for a week.

Sounds like a whole lotta fun going on.  Nothing like outdoor music under the stars in the summer time.  Hang tight, subtee, life can only go up from here.

*g*  You mean the stars come out during the summer?????

LOL... couldn't resist... the biggest challenge to moving to Northern Canada was that I have not actually seen "night time" in the last couple of months.  By the time it actually gets a little dark, it is well past midnight and the sun has been up for hours when I get up at 6 AM.  I was awake one early morning at 3:30 and it was not dark; it was more like twilight with the glow from the sun lighting up the horizon.

Riverfront is great.  You should have seen that part of town around '99.  I lived a couple of blocks away on Markham, and it was a shithole.  It's amazing what they've done in the last 8 years down there.  Juanita's and Vino's are great places Luci.  I head up there on occasion to hear bands.  You been down here to Hot Springs yet?  If you make it down here, I recommend Maxine's.  They always have great bands there, and it's right downtown.  That little bar used to be a bordello back in the old days.  You can check out all the art galleries while your down there.  We have several internationally known artists that live in the area.  A french artist owns the old high school downtown, and he has some amazing sculptures.  We also have the Documentary film festival every year and a jazz festival.
