Some people swear by cremation, but this creates noxious fumes and is quite bad for the Earth's atmosphere. Some people love the idea of gorgeous 'preservation' work with formalehyde, make up and all the trimmings... but it doesn't decompose very well into the earth. Especially not with those lacquered coffins.
Some people get dumped at sea and like the idea of becoming shark food: there's nobility in that.
In the Muslim religion, the deceased has to be dispatched into the earth as soon as possible, forgoing the need for weird embalming practices...
Some rich enough would pay to be catapulted into orbit, thus ensuring mummification galore (for lack of CO2 and other pesky flesh-eating bacteria). The alternative to orbitting is cryogenisation. Brrrrr. How about creating a diamond from the carbon of your dead loved-one, as a keepsake for posterity (brrrrr again, double brrrrr, actually?)? lifegem
So... what's your choice (if you're lucky enough for it to be carried out, after all... you won't be there to enforce your wishes [8D])?

I just answered this question in the other thread.  I want to be stuffed and made an exhibit in part of a circus. 

In all seriousness, I really don't care.  I'd rather not cost my loved ones a lot of money, so just bury me in a cardboard casket without all the embalming.  Plant a fruit tree over my grave, and then I can have people eating me long after I am gone.  [:)]

Which sect is it that is having a problem fitting into the modern world because their beliefs decree a thoroughly rotted corpse? Zoroastrianism?

Anyway, if I decide to spend my cremation money on another guitar, my burial at sea on the 'grey funnel line' (so to speak) is already prepaid...[:D]

The cardboard thing became really fashionable in England a few years ago. It's replaced cremation as my method of choice: I love the idea of fertilising a fruit tree somewhere.

Organ donation goes without saying: the more they can recycle out of me, the less there'll be to deal with post-mortem. I just hope I'll be able to leave some spare parts at the garage.

To be fair, it's a little much for our death-fearing society to leave the bodies of the dead out there to be consumed by vultures... I mean, it makes ecological sense if it's an endangered specie of bird, I suppose. But sharks are a dying breed too :-) .

Incidentally, each time I take a dip in the ocean, I call it 'going to feed the sharks, if they're lucky'. Spielberg did a good job on my unconscious [:D] .

If I had a choice and could do whatever I wanted…I’d like to be wrapped in a buffalo robe and be hoisted and roped in the highest tree they could find. Then feed the new generation of life.

For years I have been leaning towards cremation... and if money were no object perhaps a good old viking ship to go off into the deep unknown.

I have a few options available to me.. a burial plot already paid for by tax dollars, a family plot, or the already mentioned cremation.

Now if I really could do anything I wanted with me after I am dead and gone... I would like to have somebody that can keep a secret, sneak my body to the Artic Circle and pose me naked with a flogger, a flint and a few twigs, then bury me in snow and ice... Let the historians of the future try and figure that one out....

cremation.  hopefully by the time I kick off there will be a less toxic way of achieving it...but I seriously do not want anyone f*cking around with my body after I'm dead and injecting it with all sorts of garbage.  I am very particular about who touches my body in life, why should that change any after I'm dead?

I dunno..I like the viking idea myself but for me its a toss up. 11 times I've come close to death in the hospital through being sick time & again with "bugs" and what not. So I dunno if I want a Warriors pyre or give my body to med science and let them figure out why I lasted so long & kicked deaths ass 11 times in a row..I'm going on 40. Most people with CF like myself dont live this long. heh..
I'm just too damned stubborn..

I refuse to Die.

I'm an organ donor. Cremate what's left and spread the ashes at sea. Have a kick ass party at the memorial.

No one has ever come back from a cremation and said...damn that burned...I don't want to take a chance though. Come to think of it buried in a box in the dark is not too appealing...I'd much rather let a bird peck my eyes out and maggots burrow in my guts..

Ah yes, peaches are heavenly. A cherry tree would be an honour to fertilise with my junk too (all those flowers in spring!).

Personally, I don't care.. I'll be dead! Whatever is easiest for my loved ones (assuming I have any, by that time..LOL)

Maybe donate my body to science/med school.....

Of course, plastination is also available, courtesy of the good Dr. Gunther von Hagens. His creations have gone around the globe (I fainted at his London exhibition). But it's one pretty way to dealing with your corpse, it's got to be said.
