ORIGINAL: SteelofUtah The ammount of earings also didn't mater as long as thier were more in the left ear then there were in the right. HOWEVER!!!!! All Pirates always wore thier earings in thier RIGHT ears. There was a reason for it however none of the historians can agree on what that reason was but all documantations of pirates whos ears were pirced it was always the right ear and it was usually a HEAVY gold ring that was on it. Steel that reason is simple, Allow me to enlighten you all... It has to do with the scabbard, the last thing you want to do when you draw your sword is get one of the ornate quillions stuck on an earring... it hurts, similarly, when you fire a rifle you dont want the possible failures being complicated by a small piece of metal, which usually dangled down quite a bit Also, it is a lot harder to rip out an earring in the right side during a battle, at least if you are right handed HOWEVER!!!!! (See what I did Thar?) Edward Teach and Charles Vane had both ears pierced, as well as a few others, Edward usually had a sword in each hand, so he didn't really worry, and Charles Vane was just as likely to enjoy a little ear-pulling right before a battle as not :)
