Um, I don't suppose this changes anything in CL's worldview, but McCain staffers issued a rather terse statement today, admitting that they had gotten their facts wrong, and there is no evidence whatsoever that Obama intended to visit the wounded troops in Germany as a photo op... they went on that they bow to the independant, and republican witnesses on the scene that say their ad was in error.

So, instead, they run an ad the shows Obama standing in front of 200,000 europeans, all waving American flags, and try to say... this guy is a rock star like Britany Spears, or Paris Hilton... look at how terribly popular he is! How can anyone who inspires so many people possibly be good for America?

Wow, what an amazing coincidence... the previous rumor that Obama blew off the troops in Afghanistan to 'shoot some hoops' turned out to be a hoax too...

Now that the McCain campaign has manned up and admitted their mistakes,I`m waiting for the OP and the other neo-cons to man up and do the same.

I haven't made the same claims as the McCain folks, so don't hold your breath waiting for me to apologize.  I still hold to my previous statements that he should have made the visit, with or without his campaign advisor in tow.  A visit to the wounded, would have made the day of many a person at the hospital, and would have made this entire discussion moot.  Screw McCain and the campaign, or any other political garbage.  Obama changed plans that had been made weeks in advance, for whatever reason.  The victim in this story is not Obama or McCain, it is the troops that were expecting the visit.  If you want to argue with that last point feel free.

Obama`s critics aren`t interest in the GI`s welfare,in the least.

         Like you owned your bullshit about Vietnam and the 72 election?

Owner59 -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/30/2008 8:26:36 PM)

Here`s the ad.

Very dark,and immature.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49hC9TpP_rY

They were smart to pull it ,apologize and move on.

To this silly ad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0r--E7lsYw

I really can`t believe how retarded it is.

It`s not a joke ad,but a real"I`m John McCain and I approve of this ad",...ad.

And that`s what makes this ad so spooky,it`s a real ad.

Didn`t Sen.McAngry-pants say he wanted an elevated campaign???

This is low road stuff.

A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? Bad Move, Senator Obama.

Celtic, Obama is "the" most Leftist senator.
Do you think the Troops would want to meet him?
In the Vietnam days Bob Hope would bring Ann Margaret and plenty of leggy dancing girls with him!
We loved Bob Hope!
McCain should visit and have chow with them and bring a couple hundred hookers with him and let them run wild!

hardbodysub -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/30/2008 9:07:17 PM)

Consider the source. National Review? What a joke. Purely propaganda from a bunch of right-wingnuts.

Any bets that the National Review will put this apology on their front page?

popeye1250 -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/30/2008 9:43:55 PM)

Funny! I was just watching Jay Leno and an Obama commercial came on about "stopping terrorists from getting nuclear weapons."
Then it finished with Obama saying; "We need to restore America to world leadership!"
Ah,....isn't that what got us into so much trouble in the first place?
That's nothing but global socialism!
So,...he wants *more* Imperialism?
He's already admitted that he wants to "double foreign aid!"
You vote for this guy and you've got rocks in your head!
We need to *end* foreign aid!

I see you went back and added the first line of this post...

Hello genius,
I am one of Obama's critics, and I am very interested in the welfare of GIs, Marines, Airmen, Sailors, and Coasties...  Want to come with me the next time I visit a vet hospital?  You could spend some time explaining to those men and women how your vision of '72 Nam is a peaceful quiet place.  I am sure they would love your explaination of why a sitting Senator didn't visit injured troops, even after planning the trip.  Or try telling them "Obama's critics aren't interested in the GI's welfare, in the least".  If you are ever in the area let me know.

This is a new low for even you.

housesub4you -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/31/2008 3:25:48 AM)

T

I'm a vet, and come one, this White House, which McCain supports has not done much for the vets.

McCain needs to get as far away from Bush as he can, but that is hard to do when you support him and his ideals.

I know you're not going to change, as I am not.  So be it.  I just think it's interesting how both campaigns keep people fighting between themselves, instead of pushing for what I think everybody is interested on, a secure job, a place to live, safe food, and a least a chance of reaching the Americain dream.

All in all they (the campaigns) are doing a good job of making sure the people of this country do not unite, because if we did we would vote all the bums out of office regardless of party.

This country does need a third a party, but as long as we are fighting amongest ourselves it will not happen

Thadius -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/31/2008 3:38:05 AM)

I agree with you about the arguing amongst ourselves allowing the bullshit to continue.

I just took offense to Owner's insane generalization that critics of Obama are not interested in the welfare of GIs or vets.  When I still lived in your area I used to go over to Hine's a couple times a month, just to sit and talk with some of the old timers that had nobody but the hospital staff, bring them a magazine, or even just listen to a ball game, it is amazing what just visiting somebody in any hospital can do for their mental health and spirits.  Imagine being still in the service, and any Senator coming to visit you in the hospital, what that would do for your recovery and your spirits, then imagine being told that a Senator is coming to visit, only to find out at the last minute that the trip was cancelled.  I don't want this to be a political issue, I just want to emphasis why I am so pissed about it.  Maybe I am just taking it too personally to be rational on this one, after spending a bit of time in one of those hospitals overseas myself.

popeye1250 -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/31/2008 4:24:35 AM)

I want the Troops home too!
From Iraq, from S. Korea, from Japan, from Kosovo, from Germany, and a bunch of other places!
I'd *REALLY* like to see 50-75,000 Troops along that Mexican border as per the U.S. Constitution!
I *REALLY* don't want to see my government giving MY MONEY away to foreign countries!
And I *REALLY* don't want to be "lead" by anyone in the "gov't!"
Their job is to *manage* our gov't not to try to tell THE PEOPLE what to do!!!
The "gov't" is the hired help, *THE PEOPLE* are the Management!
A LOT of people in this country have got it exactly backwards!
Don't they teach Civics in schools anymore?

I have often wondered why we haven't put the national guard on the borders, with orders to shoot anybody attempting to cross illegally, simply justify it as defending the border during a time of war.  Of course one would have to take into account the manhours required, but a worthy goal is sometimes worth the cost.  Hell I don't even think it would take killing anybody, but a few warning shots would definitely send a message.

P.S. I am referring to both borders...

christine1 -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/31/2008 5:22:36 AM)

oh come on....obama is obviously addicted to the exercise, or "runners high".  he'll shirk whatever duty he needs to, to get his fix.  guess it's time for the tax payers to fund some therapy for him huh?  it's obviously a disease, he can't help it...how can you all be so cruel and unfeeling?  (major tongue in cheek here)

politics, liberal or conservative....a major joke these days.

bipolarber -> RE: A Workout Instead of Meeting U.S. Troops? (7/31/2008 5:30:22 AM)

Okay... so if McCain is so "pro-wounded troops"... if he is so very in their corner... why did he vote against their benefits nine times in the last five years?

I find it interesting that veterans groups give Obama a B+,  but they give McCain a D-...

BP, me too.
I think that Veterans should have whatever they need!
But, I'm biased!
"What?"
"Can't find the money Senator?"
"Take it out of that THIRTY FOUR POINT SIX BILLION that you pissed away on "foreign aid" last year that the LOBBYISTS on "K" street got a big chunk of!"
