If what you said were true, that FOX News makes racist quips throughout their news day, then you probably wouldn't be the sole person reporting on such a supposed "fact".

But I'm not the only one to report on it! http://youtube.com/watch?v=277gQDcBtMY

Sanity -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 11:41:38 AM)

Things can be taken out of context, certainly, and twisted to suit any given agenda as that stupid little blurb proves. And because FOX News is committed to balance their guests sometimes have controversial opinions - on both sides of any given issue. (Oh the horror).

Sorry, but your earlier comment is still false and way out of line, because FOX does not make racist quips through the day - and anyone who has watched it knows better. That's just silly!

bipolarber -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 12:04:50 PM)

Sanity,

Thanks for posting that link and the quote... different report, but on the same study I was referring to earlier. :)
(I need to get my computer de-gunked... I seem to be having a hellacious time trying to do simple stuff like that... I may have picked up some malware somewhere...)

As to FOX making racist quips: Yeah, they do it. A lot. Not every hour on the hour, but quite often. After all, they were the first to start that crap about referring to Michelle Obama as "baby mama" and the BS about how being african American is the only reason Obama has gotten as far as he has... among many, many others. Of course, the truth is, FOX seems to believe in the "jello in the fan" school of insinuation: call your target every nasty name in the book, and see what sticks to the wall. Obama's been called nieve, eletist, flip-flopper, anti-patriotic, traitorus, tax and spend, and (gasp!) "a muslim." All by FOX Noise. Mainly by their later in the evening "opinionators." Bill-O the clown, primarily.

SophiaCorrupted -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 12:08:19 PM)

I can't belive you all are so mad about Fox News just doing what the government says. If it weren't for the government, Fox News Headquarters would have been blown up by Obama Bin Ladin's dark-skinned terrorist squad in the wake of 9/11, so I pretty much see this as Fox News paying its dues. It's between Fox News and the government if they want to trade talking points with each other. Whoever said that the press had the freedom to say things the government doesn't like anyway?

McCain 2008!

Sanity -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 12:13:17 PM)

Ah, but because your computer is so incredibly full of gunk, you can't provide us with any credible links... not even a short, edited and spliced Youtube flick that takes things completely out of any sort of context.

Only in America do we equate quantity and popularity with actual fucking quality. Titanic? McDonalds? Reality television? Electing George Bush twice? Yeah, I might revisit the notion that "popular" equals worthy or of merit.
The last time I had to see the pain that is Faux Noise I tuned in to see a segment with splotchy faced O'Reilly and a body languauge expert. Wow..hard journalism there. [8|]   I guess the Anna Nicole story finally ran dry for those bastions of journalistic integrity huh?

NPR, PBS, CSPAN, or maybe some reading? Just saying.

If Fox is such a terrible place to get their news... why do they have the most viewers of any cable news channel... And why do they rate in the top 10 for total viewers of all Cable networks?

Bert, Ernie and the garbage monster are hard journalism?

No, and neither is O'Reilly supposed to be - he's a commentator. I don't always agree with him but that's not the point to his program... NPR and PBS don't stick to solid news, neither does any other news network. Even CSPAN has guest commentators reading or preaching or what have you. They have pure partisans, pure opinion sometimes. You're trying to hold FOX NEWS to a much higher standard than anyone else, especially their true competition, which is CNN.

They spoon feed the masses jingoistic news that is the equivalent of a god damn yellow support the troops sticker.   Tastes good, less filling and it makes all the bogey men go away, right? Red , white and blue, we're #1,  all that happy happy right?

By the way, do you watch C-SPAN? Or listen to NPR regularly? I was wondering because I am assuming by your comment to sesame street characters you may not quite be viewing the proper programming.

Fox News is a farce, devoid of any merit or credibility, it is to journalism what James Frey is to literature.

Sanity -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 12:44:27 PM)

Apoplectic?

Me?

Har!

Come back when you're not quite so angry...

Fox is bad.

But then so is NBC. GE owns NBC and profits from the wars.

As to NPR- I love it!!!   Funny how anyone can think it left.

Aynne -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 1:04:36 PM)

Ohhh, you edited too, too bad I didn't play catch and save...[8D] My bad.

The other networks sound just like you do... especially MSNBC and CBS.

FOX News just provides a little bit of balance, something that seems completely alien to certain Democrats who it seems would love nothing better than to dictate what news may or may not be disseminated over the airwaves.

Surely, you're joking? 'A little bit of balance'??? A revolting campaign against black America, jingoistic propaganda and blatant attempts at manipulation through strict opinion pieces, 'a little bit of balance'?

Foxattacks: they distort, we reply.

Amen sister. And props to us for putting jingoistic in the same thread twice..[:)]  The preferred channel of racist fear mongerers everywhere.

Raechard -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 1:09:56 PM)

I'm not sure anyone can get the gospel truth from any single source it goes without saying anyone who relies on one source is going to be misinformed to some extent. It's not so bad if the output is slanted this way or that as long as you contrast the source with others and make your own judgments. People go on about the bias of Al Jazeera but who actually watches it regularly to make such a judgement. Is the viewpoint of Al Jazeera one that anyone would use as a contrast because in my opinion they should. Between one extreme and another somewhere lies the truth.

I’m deadly serious when I say reporting of events is one of the most important things a person can do. How can we learn from the mistakes of the past if the past is reported in a skewed way. It means future generations will be basing their actions on the wrong information. They will even start to hate each other because of events misrepresented in the news as has happened many times in the past. People that manipulate events should feel great shame because they know in their hearts what the truth is.

Anyone that is watching news shows for news, is insane. It does not matter which news channel, or newspaper, it is just varying degrees of illusion and sensationalism.

I seem to recall that they did a study of who was better informed: people who watched the Daily Show with John Stewart (the fake news) or Rush Limbaugh....(the really fake news)

...please tell me you have a link to that study......

He may not but I do.

Dittoheads weren't at the bottom but they did score worse than NPR listeners and much worse than regular viewers of the Daily Show and Colbert Report.

Sanity -> RE: Fox News is the Ministry of Information. (7/26/2008 1:45:44 PM)

Not according to the article you linked to. Didn't you even bother to read it? The numbers are very similar, so close as to be (likely) statistically insignificant from one another.

The upside is it gave Steven Colbert his inspiration.
