Ohhhhhh, Wyld, c'mere, dearie, and let me smack ya a good one, if ya talk about "only a Knifty Knitter"..... [sm=spanking.gif]  Ya seen what Isela and Ann can do with those? I use them all the time to help me out. I don't mention it much but my hands and arms are trashed from carpal tunnel and tendonitis even though I've had surgery. I can't hold the needles long enough anymore to get anything done. Besides that, the knitting looms have been around for centuries, they've just kind of been forgotten. There are a lot more looms than the KK's - there are oval looms, sock looms, knitting rakes, you name it. There are numerous stitches you can do, there's really no limit. If you're curious, feel free to cmail me on the other side - I'm always glad to share info on them! [:)]

As for your beading, it sounds gorgeous.... I love opals. I don't have the patience for it. I'd just slap some beads on wire and say "there - like it or leave it!". As for sewing and quilting, I still do that. I've somehow acquired a number of sewing machines. Poor Lumus wouldn't know what to do if all my machines turned up here. They range from an antique (1872) hand operated machine to a 2007 professional combo sewing/embroidery machine. All told I have 7 machines..... [:-]  Yikes!!

WyldHrt -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 12:00:36 PM)

Now Rain, put that smack away! I said I could only knit using a KK, not that it was a bad thing, lol. I actually love all of mine and have 2 blankets in the works right now.

On the beading, I'll see if I can take some good pics for ya. Boulder opal is my favourite, but I've done some with other stones.

As for sewing, SOmeone owes me a new machine. [:@]

pissthirstysub -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 12:05:58 PM)

Is a KK like a sweater machine? I have never been into beading much myself. Although had a little fun with it when I made my own zipper...

[She hasn't seen the sheer volume of old half-written stories and novels I've parcelled out over the years...they'd rival the same amount of space, I'd wager.  Now, if only a certain little girl remembered that I can sew and have asked about knitting in the event she felt like sharing...but then, some things are just not the same with Daddy, are they? *sighs*]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 3:50:34 PM)

Dude.  Do Not Even Go There.

You think a measly thing like WRITING takes up space?  Ya THINK??

Amateur, that's what you are.  Just smile pretty, and maybe check Stich n'Bitch out of the library and practise as a surprise or something.  Because TWO people who do fiber in the same house?  There is not enough square footage.  No.

Try one who does fiber and beading, and the other who does fiber, leather, and blades in the same house, Lady H!
Lmao, not enough square footage is a major understatement  [:D]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 4:01:51 PM)

Yepper, Wyld!!  I do knitting, weaving, beading, (sometimes) metalwork, ceramics, etc etc etc.  My men have to have compact hobbies, or just build me a studio!  <always wanted a STUDIO!!!!!!>

LadyRainfire -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 4:08:08 PM)

[;)]  I didn't have enough footage just doing my various fiber crafts and a few other crafts by myself, let alone having someone else in the house who also does crafts. Heaven help the two of us together. Rather than a house, maybe I should be looking for a barn somewhere? Or a nice house with an attached LARGE loft?

Let's see where I'm at.... spinning, knitting, sewing, embroidery, calligraphy, a little painting, a few odd and ends.... Well, there's my loft, think Daddy would be happy with just the office? [sm=writing.gif]

WyldHrt -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 4:09:25 PM)

(Just for Lumus) I write, too. All that stays on the puter and backups, though.

pissthirstysub -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 4:11:14 PM)

lol I would love to try my hand at book binding.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/1/2008 4:18:04 PM)

Oh, PAINTING.  Yeah, I forgot about that....and the dolls, they are a hobby, aren't they...

Hmmm.  No wonder the house is so crowded!![:D]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/4/2008 6:28:56 PM)

Okay, so I was in the basement coloring my hair, and the stuff takes 25 minutes to develop, so I thought  I would rummage for my toy wombat that I have been wanting to sleep with.  (Hey!  I miss my furbaby!)  No wombat, but I DID find yarn!  MORE of the stuff for Gwyn's blankie, which I knew I had SOMEPLACE, and.....  TWO SKEINS OF COLINETTE TAO!!  Truly,  I am ashamed.  I had no memory of spending heaven knows how much (with a birthday discount, even) on two skeins of violently expensive coral silk yarn.  I know that I wanted to do one of those Iris Schreier modular things with it.  So, I brought it upstairs, where it will mock me along with the Colinette Jitterbug.

I really have to decide who gets my stash when I die...

pissthirstysub -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/4/2008 6:37:55 PM)

how big is your stash, may I ask? Mine fills three dressers, that ironically falls on the "to do" list to refinish. So embarrassing!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/4/2008 7:01:06 PM)

Yanno those 40 gallon plastic boxes?  Filled a few of those, tightly. Or is it "several" of those?  Five is a "several", isn't it?   Spacebags?  Only sort of work....but there are several of those too, plus a 50 gallon trash bag.   Lots of miscellaneous shopping bags full.  A small collection in a basket, largely in the Prism "Aruba" colourway.

Just Too Much.  I am glad that I didn't go into the LYS today while we were out, it would have been truly disgraceful.

pissthirstysub -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/4/2008 7:21:03 PM)

It sounds lovely! except for the whole space issue, and that money thing, which is why I am drooling. I have inherited projects from others too, it's actually kind of a cool remeberence.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/4/2008 7:25:02 PM)

I have a big bag of yarn for ebay, actually, or for someone who wants it...I went through ALLLLL the yarn, and managed to sort out stuff that I got here and there (and from a friend who moved and gave me all her cottons) in colours that I won't be using ever.  And mohair.  I HATE mohair.  I made two of those Colinette throws and one of the vests, and replaced the mohair in the vest with some other yarns because knitting with mohair is like having a lap full of barbed wire.  I am honestly thinking of just frogging the two throws and making one bigass one without the mohair.  Can the Versace and Sedona colourways work together?  What would Kaffe Fassett do?

pissthirstysub -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/4/2008 7:33:27 PM)

When I use mohair, I usually put two or three strands of something else with it, so the texture doesn't bother me that much. I hate how it tangles though. Kaffe Fassett would make a huge, brightly colored cape.

pissthirstysub -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/4/2008 8:27:41 PM)

has anyone tried tatting? It seems so hard, but the pretty doilies make my eyes sparkle...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/5/2008 5:27:57 AM)

I have tatting needles, which are cool, and a tatting shuttle or two, but I never got into it somehow.  It's like a cross between crochet and macrame, and I fail at both!  The results are cool, though.  Neat thing about the needles---I didn't realize that they were sized like knitting needles, so I have one that I can tat with heavyweight yarn!  I might make a hammock this century...

Off to wrrrrk........why did I logon here?  The Evilest Addiction...

LadyRainfire -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/5/2008 6:51:19 AM)

*peeks in and starts drooling*

Yarn stash...... yummy.....
