I'm sorry, I thought it was a load of bullocks.

Does that mean I have to give my sub-card back?

I thought it was a wonderful children's fantasy adventure story with an erotic twist.  I had to look up “bullocks” because I always thought it meant bullshit as in an untruth.

Fantasy is untruth.  I don’t get the meaning of your OP?

Sometimes its just used to indicate something is rubbish.

I was expecting to love it.

1.Anne Rice
2.Written like a traditional fairy tale.
3.Lots of kinky perversity.

What's not to love?

I bought all three books at once, a bar of chocolate and an OK bottle of port.
Was planning to spend that weekend reading and maybe work myself into burning out my vibe.

I found the suspension bondage details annoying.
I kept thinking umm wouldn't they have dislocated joints by now? (I know, I know its a fairytale)

By the time Id finished all three (hey I paid cash for those books I'm going to finish them) I had worked myself into a snotty judgemental snit against Ms Rice.
I was picking some scenes to bits as totally impossible and looking down my nose at Anne Rice's OBVIOUS complete ignorance of the practical application of bondage.
(Everyone ignore the fact at this point that I'm a complete and utter newb who's actual experiences so far in BDSM is minuscule.)

So point? Well my posts rarely actually have a point, but I guess in this case I wanted less sex (Cant believe I'm saying that). I think it could have been darker and more sensual.
It was laid on too thick. I like to work for my pleasure.

At least the chocolate and port was great.

So any suggestions for erotic literature that might tickle my fancy?

I'd have to give mine back too because I thought that whole set of books was just plain awful.

  I never made it halfway through the first one.... Though I never told the now ex-sister in law who gave me the set. She thought I'd love them. I preferred the Exit To Eden book. (The movie is a whole different thread....And I won't go there.)

Since you seem to be fan of Ann, I ask did you read
Exit To Eden???  I think it was a better slice of leather than the Beauty series.

I don't know yoru tastes from this brief exposure to Ann Rice but, the Market Place series was a bit thicker in the BDSM department.  I have a favorite short story called Telepaths Don’t Need Safewords found in a mix of shorts both fiction and non fiction titled SM Classics.

Thers is also the Market Place series... I find that other people speak very, very highly of it.  I liked them, I just I just dont hail them as an end all but feel safe recommending them. .

The Market Place Series

A diverse world of pansexual sadomasochistic delights. These are "must read" classics in our culture! Recommended highly by this webmaster. - Kalon Eric

The Marketplace (The Market Place Series, 1)
by
Sara Adamson
Ms. Adamson's friendly, conversational writing style perfectly couches what to some will be shocking material.

The Slave (The Marketplace Series, 2)
by
Laura Antoniou
The second volume in The Marketplace trilogy. The Slave covers the experience of one exceptionally talented submissive who longs to join the ranks of those who have proven themselves worthy of entry into the Marketplace. But the price,
while delicious, is staggeringly high.

The Trainer (The Marketplace Series, 3)
by
Laura Antoniou
The long-awaited conclusion of Adamson's stunning Marketplace Trilogy! Now these mentors divulge their own secrets, and the desires that led them to become the ultimate figures of authority.

The Academy: Tales of the Marketplace (The Marketplace Series, 4)
by
Laura Antoniou
If you've read the first three books in this series, you'll be well equipped you jump into the Academy and learn along side the trainers and spotters. Many questions from the previous novels are answered in intelligent and arousing ways.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you read Justine or Juliette by Marquis de Sade???
You rock.
Thanks and no I hadn't even heard of Exit to Eden. (Thank you LadyRainfire for suggesting this too.)
Think Ill start with that and work through the rest.
And RS?
I still want to immortalise your life story in comic book art.
Almost every post of yours conjures up for me amazing graphic images.
Thats OK I discount my opinion as well.
I had two pet ferrets years ago.
Zomg they were cute. However I had a big walk in bird aviary for them, they didn't live in my navel.
A really good series is the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey. Granted it takes a bit of patience to get through the HIGHLY detailed first 50 pages which give you the history and basis of the ficticious timeline.....it is WELL worth it. The maine character is Phedre no' Delauney, the first anguisette (aka masochist) touched by Kushiel, the divine punisher. Oh yeah, Phedre is also the equivalent of a geisha in this fictional land. The scenes are really well written, but suprisingly the story itself is REALLY well thought-out and pieced together. The first book of the series is Kushiel's Dart.
Thanks I've actually read and really enjoyed the first two. Nice to see someone else liked them too.
When I checked RS's  BDSM book suggestions thread I see there is more in that series.
The Kushel's Dart books simply rock. It has a plot line with it.. and I realy enjoyed reading all of them.
Just like when I go to watch a "Historical" movie I can not sit there and pick apart the details of things.. esp the costumes. ~ as I am often want to do.. I wilo ruin the whole movie for myself.. and anyone within earshot.
~thus being said I took The Beauty Cronicles with a mines worth of salt. After all it was not ment to be an how to manual.. or a treaties on SSC. It was written by anne Rice after all.. who no matter how much Homoerotica she has sprinkled in her pages.. she was still shocked.. and taken back to find out her son was gay. ( bit slow dont you think?)
at the best it gave me some lovely ideas for a new way to encorporate my love of human ponies.. and my equestrinne skills. Some of the Queens games I found amusing.. and I had played simular ones. Fresh ideas are always a plus.
Tour de force? Hells no... but not bad for wank fodder.
Gwyn
I read the Beauty series before i came upon bdsm - and i thought they were hot, and read them as pure fantasy.  Great one handed books!
i've read the first book in the Beauty series, and liked it enough as a fictitional fantasy story.  Haven't read the other two, yet.
i heart the Kushiel's series, though.  i've read the first three, though it's been awhile since.  And now, i've come to find out she's (Jacqueline Carey) has written at least three more full length books in the series.
And i haven't read the Exit to Eden book(s).  i've seen part of the movie, though (the one with Rosie O'Donnell, yes?).  Interesting.
i might have to try the Marketplace series sometime...
