Green Bay in an attempt to convince the future Hall of Famer to stay home have offered Favre 20 million payed over a 20 year period to stay home.If he was on the roster he is owed 12 million,so the team apparently feels he is worth more at home than on the roster.....thoughts on this please

I'm tired of Favre.  The Steelers are at training camp.  I find that more interesting than Brett Favre's should I stay or should I go disorder.

The report I have heard was he has been offered 20 million over ten years to stay retired. Whether that is true or not I don't know. A lot of stories I have read comming from both sides do not seem or end up being the complete truth. I don't think Farve or Cook (his agent) or the Packers are being completely truthful,

With that being said I have been a Packer fan since the Lombardi days, and I love watching Farve play.  But he retired, the Packers drafted two quarterbacks, and adjusted the playbook for Rodgers. If they bring Farve back I think they would have to trade Rodgers. They can't release him or he may end up with Minnesote or Chicago, and that won't go over well with the Packer faithful. It would likely get Thompson fired.

I doubt that Farve was "forced" into retirement, if he really wanted to play he could have said so. And the money to stay retired has little effect. I don't think Farve is in need of money, he just wants to play football. If he needed more time to think over retirement, he should have taken the time like he has the last couple years. My opinion he has to be traded to a team the Packers don't play this year, or he comes back to camp and competes for the starting job.

The whole situation makes both Farve and the packers look bad, but Frave has put the Packers in a no win situation. Farve is gone or a backup at worst, and the fans are not happy. He comes back and starts and Rodgers is disgruntled, as well as some of the younger players, Rodgers ask for a trade, Farve really does retire after next year and the Packers have an inexperienced QB next year. They release Farve or trade him and the fans get very ireate, and Thompson will be hung in effigy at every home game for the rest od his short tenure as Packer GM.

Yes Zupan, but the Packers seem to be saying that if he comes back hewill not be allowed to compete for the job.In my eyes that is bullshit, this is a hall of famer ,you don't tell him to hold the clip board and stay ot of the way

I have heard two stories, he can come back as a backup, or to compete for the starting job. I really think that Thompson wants to start his own era in Green Bay, and that is why we are getting some of the stories we have been getting. Which are true and which aren't, we will just have to wait and see how they paly out.

I should add my personal feelongs on this situation..... Farve retired and the Packers moved on as they should have. Either Farve or Rodgers has to be traded, if Farve comes into camp, and the other has to win the starters job against Brohm and Flynn.  I see it as bad for the Packers either way, they are in a no win situation. Farve comes back for a year or two and maybe the Packers end up winning the Super Bowl, but Rodgers is gone when Farve does retire. Or Farve is gone, Rodgers is the QB and maybe the Packers win the Super Bowl, and Rodgers is in Green Bay For another ten years or so with more playoff apreaences and mayber annother Super Bowl or two.

Folks this is another classic example of people who have far too many dollars and not enough sense.

1. Favre should not have retired.
2. When this story first broke, Favre was quoted as saying "it's all just rumors". Now we know that this has been going on starting a few weeks after he retired.
3. The Packers should not have made the "Aaron Rodgers is our starting quarterback" comment. Now they can't back down. (They can, but they won't.)
4. When the Packers told Brett he would be a backup, he should have said YES. The reality is - as soon as Aaron Rodgers throws his first 5 picks, Favre is the starting QB, even though Favre holds the record for most picks thrown EVER.

The problem is these people have so much misplaced pride and such huge egos that they don't know when to shut the hell up and compromise.

What I can't figure out is why people seem to be so surprised Favre changed his mind. As everyone knows and as I just mentioned above, the guy holds the record for most interceptions thrown ever. Yes .. he's a Hall of Famer. But that statistic right there should prove - he has a hard time making good decisions.

No one knows what will happen when he gets to the practice center tomorrow. I'm a big Farve fan but he should have just stayed retired..He caused this whole mess..

And if he's the backup and doesn't play in the first game ,there goes the Streak

Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy traveled to Mississippi to meet with quarterback Brett Favre and his agent James "Bus" Cook on Wednesday, in an apparent attempt to talk Favre out of reporting to camp this week.

Meanwhile, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell took no action on Favre's request for reinstatement Wednesday — giving the sides more time to work out a resolution.

"The commissioner is taking no action today," league officials said in a statement issued by NFL spokesman Greg Aiello. "He wants to give both the Packers and Brett an appropriate amount of time to make decisions, including decisions impacting the team's roster and salary cap."

The resolution to the situation may now take the form of a trade within the division, which had previously been considered unthinkable. The Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee cited a source close to the situation as saying the Packers were considering seeking a deal with the Minnesota Vikings or Chicago Bears if backed into a corner by the league and fan sentiment.

I can't believe the Packers would be so stupid as to actually let him go to Minnesota or Chicago.

I'm sure Domi is banging his head on the wall over this.

I can't play for anything.  Why isn't anyone offering ME 20 mil to not play?

I don't have too much sympathy for Favre and until now I thought I understood the Packers' position.  He retired; they moved on; now he can't go and unretire and make them change their plans all over again.  It takes time to train a new quarterback.  But paying him to stay retired makes absolutely no sense to me.  That's hush money: "Here, take this, now go away and stop making us look bad."

Why doesn't he just take a nice, cushy announcer job at ESPN?

Why don't they just trade him and be done with it? Both Tampa Bay and the Jets want him; so what if Green Bay can't get "value" for  him, hell, paying him $20 million isn't getting value out of him. Get him gone and move on.

We will know the outcome soon... Favre has 24 hours to decide if he wants to accept the offer, the commissioner will act on the reenstatement at the end of the decision process.

The commissioner needs to slap Favre.
