Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

A certain post reminded me of this poem...

Nobody But You - Charles Bukowski

nobody can save you but
yourself.
you will be put again and again
into nearly impossible
situations.
they will attempt again and again
through subterfuge, guise and
force
to make you submit, quit and/or die quietly
inside.

nobody can save you but
yourself
and it will be easy enough to fail
so very easily
but don’t, don’t, don’t.
just watch them
listen to them.
do you want to be like that?
a faceless, mindless, heartless
being?
do you want to experience
death before death?

nobody can save you but
yourself
and you’re worth saving.
it’s a war not easily won
but if anything is worth winning then
this is it.

think about it.
think about saving your self.

your spiritual self.
your gut self.
your singing magical self and
your beautiful self.
save it.
don’t join the dead-in-spirit.

maintain your self
with humor and grace
and finally
if necessary
wager your life as you struggle,
damn the odds, damn
the price.

only you can save your
self.

do it! do it!

then you’ll know exactly what
I am talking about.

A few years back a very good friend of mine who is a librarian checked out a book of poems for me. This friend knew i was planning to make some major changes to my life, and had marked a few poems she felt would be beneficial to me. The first poem is the acronym before my name; it is a reminder to me, for me, from me.
i do hope You like them!

LOVE AFTER LOVE
The time will come                                        when with elation,                                you will greet yourself arriving                            at your own door, in your own mirror,                        and each will smile at the others welcome,                                        and say, sit here. Eat.                                         You will love again                                   the stranger who was yourself.                           Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart                            to itself, to the stranger who has loved you                                     all your life, whom you ignored                                for another, who knows you by heart.                           Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,                               the photographs, the desperate notes,                                peel your own image from the mirror.                                           Sit. Feast on your life.                                                                         Derek Walcott                                                 SO MUCH HAPPINESS                            It is difficult to know what to do with so much happiness.                           With sadness there is something to rub against,                            a wound to tend with lotion and cloth.                            When the world falls in around you, you have pieces to                                pick up,                             something to hold in your hands, like ticket stubs                                or change.                              But happiness floats.                             It doesn't need you to hold it down.                             It doesn't need anything.                             Happiness lands on the roof of the next house, singing,                             and disappears when it wants to.                             You are happy either way.                             Even the fact that you once lived in a peaceful tree house                             and now live over a quarry of noise and dust                             cannot make you unhappy.                             Everything has a life of it's own,                             it too could wake up filled with possibilities                             of coffee cake and ripe peaches,                             and love even the floor which needs to be swept,                             the soiled linens and scratched records. . . .                              Since there is no place large enough                              to contain so much happiness,                              you shrug, you raise your hands, and it flows out of you                              into everything you touch. You are not responsible.                              You take no credit, as the night sky takes no credit                               for the moon, but continues to hold it, and share it,                               and in that way, be known.                                                                                  Naomi Shihab Nye

he travels alot...sometimes it's really, really hard...

"How Can I Tell You" by Cat Stevens

How can I tell you that I love you... I love you
But I can't think of right words to say
and I long to tell you that I'm always thinking of you
I'm always thinking of you
but my words just blow away
just blow away

always ends up to one thing honey
and I can't think of right words to say

Wherever I am, girl, I'm always walking with you
I'm always walking with you
but I look and you're not there
whomever I'm with, I'm always, always talking to you
I'm always talking to you
and I'm sad that you can't hear
sad that you can't hear

it always ends up to one thing honey
when I look and you're not there

I need to know you
Need to feel my arms around you
Feel my arms surround you
like the sea around the shore
each night and day I pray
and hope that I might find you
and hope that I might find you
because hearts can do no more

it always ends up to one thing honey
still I kneel upon your floor

how can I tell you that I love you... I love you
but I can't think of what's right to say
I long to tell you that I'm always thinking of you
I'm always thinking of you

it always ends up to one thing honey
and I can't think of right words to say

Who are we
But fallen Angels
Trying
in our Mortal
skins
to once again claim heaven
through the torturous
Pleasure
of our earthly flesh
Soaring momentarily
on the lips of
our Lovers
our Angels in Anguished
Bliss
