In the US, left is top, right is bottom...in Europe, it's the opposite.

Thanks for for pointing this out as I had naturally assumed that the left/right sides was universally the same. I know I have a file with an extensive hanky code list and I believe it lists 20-30 different hanky colors and the corresponding activity.
Up here, I rarely see anyone in the gay community sporting a hanky though I would imagine in the larger centers, many members still hold on to this tradition.

Not necessarily.  I was taught left = bottom, right = top, and I'm European.

I guess the answer is, you get a vague idea from the colour, and then it's best to ask.

Also taught; red = blood play/vampirism, unless that was black/red mix...  brain tired, too much work today.

Sunnyfey -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 2:21:43 PM)

and see here red is fisting, anal fisting if i remember right, and my region dose have one for fire play. a black hanky with red flames on it. That was one of the questions on my Leather sisters interview for when she got SC BootBlack, kind of an aside thing at the end of her interview "whats the flame hanky for?" it was pretty funny.

Madame4a -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 2:30:17 PM)

add me to the leather folk ... and my hankies are listed in my profile...

LadyPact -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 2:34:14 PM)

Same here.  I didn't know there was a difference in Europe.

Even those who are Leather! I'm not meaning this as a put down, I'm saying this in reference to trying to define what it is. Most of us say something similar to: I don't know what it is, but I know what I see it.

I don't know that people who have an active leather community that is open to all orientations realize how lucky they are. I envy you very much.

While I consider myself a leather person, there's a very small, leather community in town that is gay and does not welcome woman at their space. They have a 'bar night' but that tends not to be particularly serious - more like an excuse to dress fetish. It makes being a bootblack kinda tough.

I would be happy to be in a place that had a tradition and people who Sir and I could trust and mingle with who understood the leather community perspective.

I catch as catch can here by listening to the leather people who I know on CM.

I'd be right there, with a black flag sticking out my left pocket...
if there WERE an actual leather community here.
*grumbles*  Dang one (lame) horse hick town anyway.

Thanks!   I may have to move to a bigger town though...
I do so like real time better than the internet, although, when email is all you have, it has to suffice.

Hmm...maybe it's just in germany...or maybe my info is wrong. I'll ask Master Taino about it, but I don't expect a quick reply as his Ms Conference is this weekend.

The original code I posted was from the gay Leathermen community. For them, fisting, specifially anal fisting, was red. But, I have to say, making it deal with blood makes a lot more sense to me!

It only takes two to start a MAsT Chapter. Technically Master/slave doesn't HAVE to be Leather, but it usually is. I seem to remember rumors about Albany and Rochester chapters in the works. That closer to you?

For anyone interested in the open MAsT yahoo group, it's here:

Albany is closer, although still 2 hours away.  Thanks for the tip.

Surrenderwithin -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/5/2008 4:36:27 PM)

I have never had much of an interest in the idea of earning leathers or leather in general until recently. In May I attened Submissive Journey Weekend (SJW) and there were several leather women there. Their focus on community and service spoke to something deep within me. I witnessed a ceremony of sorts where someone was given thier earned vest. The whole thing was touching and awakened, reawakened, something within me. Since then I have been exploring leather more and plan to continue to educate myself and be eductaed in such. I would like to see a forum here.

Thankfully, the Rochester chapter appears to be coming along, last I spoke with the organizer, slave Ziggy. The plan is to have the first meeting after NE Master Slave in September, or that was what I heard last time I spoke with him.

Small world :)

If ziggy were for sale, I fear I'd not be able to afford him. I certainly support whatever he'd put together be it this or the Slave Journey Weekend mentioned earlier.

Also, check out his artwork some time.

If Ziggy were for sale I would find a way to afford him. Granted, I am not sure what I would do with him once I had him.....I suppose he could have the place of honor on our fire place mantle and I could just chat him up when I struggle and lust after him of course!

You could gift him to me, of course! I'd let you visit. *snicker*

Vendaval -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/5/2008 10:40:09 PM)

I am really enjoying this thread.  My little town does not have a Leather Community so traveling to out of the area events is required.

monywildcat -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/5/2008 10:52:20 PM)

Wowza, I had NO FREAKING CLUE that there was so much involved with all that is "Leather".  However, I hold true to my stance that a separate forum would be interesting, in that there would be a centralized place to learn and share in regards to the topic of "Leather".

Sunnyfey, what a beautiful description on what Leather means to you.  I am intrigued a bit more.  Again, having a forum where topics such as this "hanky code" and other areas that may be considered Leather specific could be a very helpful resource for those of us that are in the dark.  Is there a color for the "wtf, I have no idea what these rules are!" hanky?  [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m11.gif[/image]  But this is just my two cents.

If need be I offer up my great big ol' butt for some spankings if that helps get a specific forum on the boards.  [sm=whap.gif]

Sunnyfey -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/6/2008 3:42:00 AM)

Theres not a "wtf" hankey [:D] but theres a "Nothing right now" hankey. Orange on the right side (for the south central usa anyway)
