Prinsexx -> Life is drama and drama is life? (8/5/2008 5:50:20 AM)

i woke throwing a big wobbly. Feelings of being invisible and there's actual evidence in my life which says i am right?
In this life's desires (which we share here rifght?) is there a confusion or is the confusion something that only happens to me? surely not.
Most people seem to be living life through either a computer reality or addicted in some way to watching it on tele.
Whilst the REAL issues, the mniutiae of our lives are deemed personal drama and the pressing issues of world peace and pollution are simply swept up the backyard are being ignored. )I watched a shop keeper today sweeping all the butt ends of cugarettes outdie his shop along th pavement so they were in a neat pile outside his neighbour's shop).
i dont't know if i'm limiting this to a set of questions but here goes:
How much of your life is personally dramatic?
How much of your life is spent watching it unfold on tele, or in a virtual reality or even (here goes) spent getting off on porn?
Are there real manners, real protocols out there in existence that distinguishes between drama and life?
What's the price of the ticket?

TysGalilah -> RE: Life is drama and drama is life? (8/5/2008 6:16:32 AM)

...perhaps therein lies the problem

some people keep buying the tickets (seats) to their own lives.  Being an observer rather than a participant in the outcome of how "the play" progresses and plays out.

are we stuck in the " whats happening to me" mindset....vs  being in the  "what can I make happen" mindset.    ??

can't remember the author
but there is a quote about   fixing the world by each of us "sweeping our own porches"
like your example.
but the guy didnt clean his own porch...he just swept his filth into the next guys space (and waited to see if that guy would clean it up completely no doubt).  dustpans are required to make the quote valuable.  take care of our own messes...be a participant not an observer.

shrugs...

As Alfred Hitchcock once said: Drama is life with the dull bits cut out.

Certainly many people dramatize their own lives.  Then there are those that sit back, and let life happen to them- instead of actively making their lives what they seek.  You can't just sit on your laurels and hope for the best.  It takes work and a concerted effort.  For many, it's just easier to play at being the perpetual victim.  You don't even have to break a sweat to do so...

"Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced."
— Soren Kierkegaard

LaTigresse -> RE: Life is drama and drama is life? (8/5/2008 6:51:33 AM)

I would like to think I have found a lovely balance. I keep drama to a minimum in my life yet also feel like I am living it fully.

I don't believe you have to have drama to embrace life. I think the choices you make, how you proceed, and how you deal with obstacles and upsets, are what determines the drama. Some people attract it like a magnet, quite simply because of poor coping skills, poor choices, and no thought or plan of how to achieve their goals. They don't think things through, instead just barreling in without a care and then stand there sobbing "Oh poor me!!!" with the situation blows up in their face.

I've got a fantastic, full, wonderful, life. But I didn't get here by charging into my decisions without thinking ahead, and of how my decisions may impact others.

I think there is a HUGE variance in how different individuals deal with life's glitches. Some do so with much overblown drama and chaotic bullshit. Others quietly pick themselves up, dust themselves off, think "well, I learned a valuable lesson there now didn't I?!?" and move forward. Others, not so much so.......hense, drama.

I certainly do not equate having drama to living life fully and wonderfully. Nor do I believe that people with a low amount of life drama are living their life via television or computer. That to me, is a cop out, for drama laden people that haven't learned any better coping skills.

Drama takes way too much energy.  I've always found that it is so much easier to live drama free and happy.  Online drama?  doesn't exist in my world because it's easy to remove.  Just unplug.  Problem solved.  Real life drama?  I have circles around me that affect me to different degrees.  Immediate family and a few close friends are in that inner circle and they are the only ones to influence my life.  Anyone beyond that has no power over me.  My home was filled this weekend with those that wanted to stress me out.  I ranted all day yesterday just because I need to get it out of my system and then I let it go.  The only power anyone has over me is the power I allow.   I'm at a lovely point in my life where the only drama I have is the choice of what bikini to put on today as I sit and watch the kiddies in the pool.  Or what book to read as I sit there.   I like that just fine.  Next year will be a different story as I plan on starting my own business...but hopefully I'll have the ability to control as much as I can and not let outside factors influence my life too much.

There certainly are, real life really hurts or really loves, nothing virtual or dramatic about it

All the world's a stage...

Of course I had to post to this thread, as a theater artist.. it called to me.  I started my work in theater as an actor and branched out from there, and while I do other things more often, now, I have never been one to sit in the audience watching the world go by.  I act.  I seem to be a magnet for drama though, it happens all around me and the world is a constant chaos in which I seem to be one of the few who can bring any order or make any sense out of it all.  People bring their drama to me and I take it away from them, teach them to breathe, help them find their own center.

I spend quite a bit of time online, when I am not working on other projects.  I watch very little television anymore, though I was practically raised by it when growing up.  The community of people I know online often bring their drama to me and I have come to enjoy my influence in that arena.  I am accustomed to it.  I don't create it but I enjoy directing it and channeling those energies into productive persuits.

It is all drama to me.  I just handle it very differently.

BossyShoeBitch -> RE: Life is drama and drama is life? (8/5/2008 9:19:17 AM)

I agree with Aileen.  I just don't do drama.  People who incite drama are energy vampires and I won't allow it in my life..  I cannot tell you how many times Michael has told me, "Holy shit, you really ARE drama free."  It sometimes freaks him out.. lol
I am somewhat stuck with the incredible amounts of drama created by my Father and my sister, but I can usually put that in the box it belongs in and go about my day..

OH REALLY?  LOL

People drama is all around us.  Drama doesn't have to come in the form of an insane rant.  Just because its calm doesn't mean its not drama.

Ever notice how the people say "I don't do drama" do drama?

Well said. Some people live drama to drama in  their life, they make their own drama and blame others for their drama. Sometimes you have to take responsibility and make your own life.  I do think these people make more effort at being a victim all the time than actually living a healthy life. They wouldn't get the same attention otherwise.

Could you explain that a bit better?  Are any of my closest friends drama queens?  Who haven't I distanced myself from that creates drama?
You don't mean that I create drama, do you?

Just because it's calm doesn't mean it's not drama.
It means it's life.  Situations come up in life that have to be dealt with.  That's not drama.  Drama is when someone makes a HUGE issue out of everything..  Everything is "FIRE!" and it sucks up all your energy trying to deal with it.

RCdc -> RE: Life is drama and drama is life? (8/5/2008 9:53:17 AM)

Drama does exist in life, it's all around us.  It's how we deal with it that matters, not the drama itself.  You cannot escape it or control it, but you can own it and calm it.

I would liken it to television.  On that box, you can flip channels and see all types of drama.  Jerry Springer re-runs, the news, Pride and Prejudice, CSI, .  But you choose the drama that you watch that entertains you or that makes you cry, laugh, smile or just be plain angry.

Life is drama - but you play it out and let it effect you how you wish and act accordingly.

Absolutely.  But I don't think that people are really saying that they don't do drama, but rather that they have found a comfortable way of handling it themselves.

DaddyLongStroke -> RE: Life is drama and drama is life? (8/5/2008 10:18:55 AM)

Why is it that at times you pretend to not understand what I am saying?  I am not saying your friends are drama queens.  I am not saying you don't try to distance yourself.  As for the last question....well....I'd rather not have the stenographer go back and read us what has happened so far.  You absoluely have been known to create drama (we all have).

A, B, C....Sorry, got a little sidetracked there....But I digress

Just because you felt justified in your reactions doesn't mean that it wasn't drama.

While I agree with you that just because it might not be in the middle of a firery outburst it may tend to resemble more of life's "issues"  but there are plenty of times (in general) that a "routine" problem drags on and on and on because the person loves the attention.  I am not saying that every "problem" in life is dramatic.  You deal with it and move on.  It's those lingering issues that get "talked" about over and over but then never really addressed that are on the subtly dramatic side.  Subtle drama is to me when something comes up and you say to yourself...."Not this again....I thought we have dealt with this and put it to bed already"

True....the problem can be when those people have reached their tolerance for the situation and can't escape the situation.  It tends to be like quicksand.  We have all been there and done that.

StormsSlave -> RE: Life is drama and drama is life? (8/5/2008 10:59:37 AM)

I freaking hate drama. I'm happy to say that the relationship between My Lord and myself is the most drama free I have ever known, and we avoid emotional vampires like the plague.

I have an expression about people. I call it "soap opera mentality." It goes like this..."If there isn't something wrong, then there must be something wrong."

Life is short. The time I may have with My Lord is precious...too precious to be spent staring blankly at a screen or watching other people have sex. I'd rather have ACTUAL SEX. but that's just me.
