bipolarber -> The Paris Response Ad (8/5/2008 7:22:33 PM)

Just caught this on "Countdown"... I'm sure it's being uploaded repeatedly to Youtube by now... I have mixed feelings about this...

1) It's the funniest thing I've ever seen this election cycle.

2) I generally dislike the girl, but this at least proves she has a sense of humor about her public persona.

3) What the hell does it say about how bad things have gotten, when Paris Hilton's energy policy is VASTLY more reasoned and nuanced than either of the candidates?

Thanks, white haired creepy dude! You made this one possible! :)

TheHeretic -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/5/2008 7:32:50 PM)

What you are going to have to deal with now, Bipo, is that you had to rely on a conservative for your thread vision to come true...

       Funny stuff.

DomKen -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/5/2008 7:38:00 PM)

That was disturbing. Hilarious but disturbing.

sub4hire -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/5/2008 7:39:13 PM)

I loved it, I wonder what flack will come of it?

bipolarber -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/5/2008 7:39:26 PM)

TheHeretic,

Sadly, it was really just a matter of time. (Like Obama said today... it's like these people are proud of being ignorrant.)

Has anyone else noticed how fucking surreal this election cycle is becoming? I don't mean to derail my own thread here... but McCain giving a pro-nuclear speech in front of the Fermi II reactor outside Detroit? Um... he DOES realize this was the reactor that was the inspiration for both the book, "We Almost Lost Detroit" and the movie "The China Syndrome?" And that just five years ago, it had to be shut down, and local, outdoor school activities had to be canceled, due to possible radioactive steam release?

Just askin'...

Owner59 -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/5/2008 7:42:30 PM)

I don`t think you could plan a worse PR disaster, even if you tried.

Very funny.

I also like Paris` energy plan.She`s grow`n up...

Should we also apply the same logic to Obama's speech in front of the Victory Column? The fact that it was built to celebrate the Prussian victories  in Europe , or its other history?  We all know how you like to talk about the "good little Germans".  How about the fact that the French wanted to dynamite it shortly after WWII?

It would be too easy to point out similarities between acouple of people noted for their "cult of personality" who have spoken there, and it's symbolism.

Just sayin,
Thadius

Excepting, Thad, that Obama's speech there was a last minute switch of locales.

Oh, and you kept asking me about McCain taking 1.3 million from Exxon-Mobil? It's been verified on fact check. org

lacenleathergirl -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 5:27:36 AM)

I actually loved Paris's video.  It was incredibly clever and to the point.  The ironic thing about McCain's video is that apparently no one bothered to check to see that her family contributed to his campaign.  What a dumbass he is.

TNstepsout -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 5:32:34 AM)

Yeah I watched it last night and thought it was great. I know she get's a lot of crap (mostly deserved) but I always thought she was pretty sharp when it came to PR and this is another great move.

Hell I might even vote for her. I think it's time the White House gets a paint job.

Hiya,

Actually that 1.3 million, is from all oil contributors...Not just Exxon.
Obama has received .4 million from those same oil contributors... at least that is the numbers through the end of June.

bipolarber -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 5:33:54 AM)

Yeah, I heard that the Hilton's have since asked for their money back, and are asking their friends to not donate anything to McCain in the future.

housesub4you -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 5:36:37 AM)

I thought the video was "hot".

Time to get new people on your staff when you are upstaged by Paris Hilton.

bipolarber -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 5:38:03 AM)

Exxon-Mobil $1.3 million
Hess - $400,000

Both of which came less than a week before good ol' "straight talkin'" John McCain changed his stance on offshore drilling.

"We're gonna drill here! We're gonna drill NOW!!!" (he said, in a rather crazy old man "you kids get off my lawn!" way...)

I am not sure where you are getting your number... Open secrets shows a total of $45,000 from Exxon to McCain, and the site you claim that shows the figure states...

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obamas_overstatement.html

quote:

According to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics – which both campaigns cite as authoritative from time to time – McCain had received $1,332,033 from persons in the oil and gas industry (both directly and through company-sponsored political action committees), not $2.1 million as the Obama campaign claims. Those are the most recent and authoritative figures available and are based on reports on file at the Federal Election Commission as of July 28.

On topic though, I thought the Paris video was done very nicely...

NeedToUseYou -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 6:15:18 AM)

Actually, if Paris Hilton was running for real, I'd be as likely to vote for as McCain or Obama. Seriously, what could she do that would be any worse, than the nightmare scenarios I can think of for either McCain or Obama.

McCains wife:You're acting strange John, maybe we should call the doctor.
McCain: I'm not crazy, the russians are invading, see the lights. Oh hell, they are on the lawn they've taken out the secret service....... Wait... Listen... Do you here that
McCains wife: I don't hear anything, oh johnny you're scaring me, she begins to tear up.
McCain storms out of the room.
Mcain: Furiously yelling, If I'm going down we're all going down.....

Obama: So, Wright, it was a pretty tough election cycle, but we got here.
Wright: Yeah, my son, we pulled it off, I'm so proud finally got a soldier in the fight for justice in the oval office.
Obama: Yeah, it was worth ti, sorry I had to distance myself from you during the election cycle, but damn, you know we agreed to keep all this on the down low until after the election.
Wright: I know but I get on that podium and I think of how the whites in this country suppress and hurt my black brothers, I think of the evil just dripping from every pour of their devil bodies, they created Aids to destroy us, distributed crack to mentally enslave us, and gave our children white dolls, White Dolls to play with! oh, the white man, he's sure going to get it now.
Obama: You must be patient my friend, kill them with kindness.
Wright: Kill them with kindness, then damn em to hell.
Obama: Something like that.
Wright: So, let me take a look at that reparations bill your working on.
Obama: It's right here, I think we should wait until another Jena six type event happens before we spring this on everyone.
Wright: Yeah, the honky motherfuckers won't say anything if the black people are united and pissed.
Obama: That's what I was thinking.
Wright: What about the indians.
Obama: Fuck em.
Wright: Laughs, smacks him on the back.

LOL, I should be a writer.

Seriously, though, McCain is war obsessed with a history of political pandering, and Obama, does have questionable important relationships, no real history to speak of, so you don't know what you are really getting. You might as well put Paris in there. I mean Paris has successfully built a multi-million dollar a year industry around nothing, but a made up persona, that's pretty frickin smart.

Equal qualifications.

No, I'm voting neither, they both are unqualified. Actually why don't we just go four years without a president, it couldn't be worse.

Actually,it`s under 400 thousand,not 4 million.

And what has that money bought/gotten them from Obama?

Not much,if you listen to Obama`s rhetoric.

They`re get`n their money`s worth with McCain though....lol

The Hess family just gave McCain 300 grand, right after he flip-flopped on off-shore drilling leases.

Thadius -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 6:28:42 AM)

Where did I say 4 million?

Edited to add... from your own link.

quote:

"The major outpouring of
donations outside of Texas came from oil giant Hess, whose executives and family members from New York and New Jersey gave $285,000 within a week of McCain's Texas swing, with ten donors all maxing out to the RNC with identical $28,500 donations."

Emphasis mine.  The money went to the RNC, not directly to McCain, he is likely to see a good share of the money, but it is not all going to him.

quote:

Hess CEO John Hess has also written $2,300 checks to presidential hopefuls Obama, Sens. Chris Dodd, Gov. Bill Richardson, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

thishereboi -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 7:03:33 AM)

China Syndrome was based on Three Mile Island....not Detroit. Haven't read the book yet, but based on your history, I would say your probibly wrong about that also.
