Anyone else live in the boonies?

Things I miss:
*Sushi. Actually all things seafood.
*Delivered Chinese.  Delivered Pizza!
*Museums
*Bus Service
*Taxis
*Book Stores
*Movie Theaters.  15 miles away is a theater that has one screen.  We are in the middle of two weeks of the Mummy and before that it was two weeks of the Dark Knight.
What do you miss?

I have to agree with missing Delivered Chinese. I'm not in too small of a city, but it is something we are seriously lacking.

Oh I also miss those Reeses Peanut butter cups that had the cookie bottom in them, or the ones made with chuncky peanut butter...And while I'm missing Reeses, what happened to the ones made with honey?

windchymes -> RE: Things I miss (8/7/2008 6:22:49 PM)

I miss trail bologna and Guggisberg swiss cheese from NE/N. central Ohio

happypervert -> RE: Things I miss (8/7/2008 6:26:31 PM)

I miss the sound of car alarms at 2 AM

The aroma of urine in the subways

Dirty, smelly people shaking a coffee cup at me and asking "Spare some change?"

And being stuck in traffic jams

I really wonder how I survive now without those things!

Being bored.

I haven`t had that pleasure since high school.

"Things I miss: "
I miss not being able to own someone with a cool nickname like pissthrirstysub.
I miss not having a house full of people like coworkers, slaves and kids.
I miss living on a secluded lagoon sometimes... but I also like living near the a big beach.
I miss being wealthy but wouldn't trade an ounce of stress to up my income bracket.

pissthirstysub -> RE: Things I miss (8/7/2008 7:38:10 PM)

RS, you make me blush. Thanks!

I would like the opportunity to make you blush in person!  I could think of about a thousand ways to make you blush involving the best sense of your screen name in a scene at the local public dungeon…

But you’re only seeking females and you're kindly flirting with this ol' man on the forms so I will spare you all the “juicy” tidbits and details involving the genitalia that are not of your preference.  Instead I take your graceful flirtation and continue to proclaim my adoration of you for being perverted enough to call yourself a “pissthristysub”.  You’re alright in my book baby girl!

$2 donair's....from various halifax nova scotia restaurants...

god....too bad you cant get a meal these days for $2 anymore....

those were sooooooo good...especially loaded up with mayo and tomato's.

fluffyswitch -> RE: Things I miss (8/7/2008 9:31:16 PM)

the pizza from back home. i haven't had good pizza since i moved here.
the chinese places in the town where i did my undergrad degree. again i haven't had that many good chinese food runs around here. though at least the place that delivers finally found my apartment.
chicken finger subs. you would think that a chicken finger sub would not be that easy to screw up, especially in a town known for its chicken.
not having to lock my door at night, or even closing the stupid thing (yes i lived that rural).
trees. lots and lots of trees. and fields. and hills.
my dog.

I'm kind of in the boonies...I'm on Maui. It never ceases to amaze me how people who come here to visit or who move here from the mainland gripe about the lack of amenities. Hello people, this is a tiny little island pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with a lot of rural community. It isn't a big metropolis. I've heard enough bitchin' and moaning on that subject to last me a lifetime. I'm a transplant, but somehow I get the fact that it isn't practical or cost-effective to have every little thing here - unlike many others who have relocated to the islands. Frick...when I consider how remote these islands are, I'm grateful for the stuff we do  have here. Okay...off of my soapbox.

I do miss some of the variety of items in the stores that I had access to back home, but basically what I need is here.

What I really miss are the thunderstorms. They do happen in Hawai`i`, but are not common at all. I have yet to experience one in the almost 7 years (and 3 different islands) I've been here. *wistful sigh*

You mean you had one? [8|]

I miss the boonies I moved from. Lovely, middle of no-where Idaho. Never locking up, or as mentioned, even closing the door in warm weather. On the other hand, there were no restaurants that delivered, sushi (damned good sushi though it was!) was an hour away, pizza was a mom and pop take and bake place, the local video store was a mormon-run store with their family selections, and the cops knew my entire family on a first name basis. (Me because I worked with them for almost 6 years but everyone else because of trouble.... shuddup holl-parts!)

LadyRainfire -> RE: Things I miss (8/8/2008 4:44:00 AM)

*snorts*

I actually taught other EMT's how to restrain patients. Couldn't quite explain how I had learned so much about restraints though.
