Same with Georgia.They`ll get fucked there too,eventually.Let it be so.

They are not a friend or a good faith player.The laissez faire attidude about this is a little disturbing.

Boy, you couldn't mangle a set of facts any worse than that.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Russia invades Georgia (8/11/2008 7:20:42 PM)

If you have looked at Russian history and politics, this aggression is not a surprise at all. However, Russia is overplaying their hand now. This conflict will hurt their reputation as it is unprovoked aggression on a democratic country (a much smaller democratic country) without the approval of any treaty or international body. It makes Russia look like a schoolyard bully beating the lunch money out of a little kid. It's a same attitude of the Soviet Union and it should serve as a serious wake-up call especially to Europe. And notice how quiet Europe is in response to this. Britain, France, and Germany arnt saying a peep. A little revival of cold war fear perhaps?

Maybe Europe should not have been so fast to sign those energy deals with Czar Putin. Good luck with those deals!

Bush warns Russia to pull back in Georgia

Boy,those Ruskies must be shaken in their boots.[8|]

Hey Sanity,the Georgians have been helping us in your Iraq for years, and they think of us as a friend and ally.They`re kind of expecting us to help them.

Do you think Bush will help the Georgians,or throw them under the bus and ruin farther, our reputation?

Also,

Do you think John McCain`s top policy adviser,also being the lobbyist for Giorgia in Washington DC,will influence McCain`s positions on the Russo/Georgian war?

Appease Putin AT ALL COSTS give him checko... err  Georgia!!!
Where is Chamberlain when you need him?

Outlaw85 -> RE: Russia invades Georgia (8/11/2008 9:37:23 PM)

as much as I worry bout global war, and as much as I hate how we interfere with the business of other nations.  I worry much more about us NOT helping the Georgians.  there is such a thing as principle.  they were loyal to us when we made our mess in iraq, they've fought along side us, risked their lives for us,  turning our back on them now would be the most disgusting, dishonourable, shameful thing we could do as a nation.  I don't care what economic hardships it might cause our country.  you don't turn your back on a friend who was there for you and if our government could do that to Georgia, it would leave us all wondering what else they were capable of doing, to others and to us.

I have been increasingly disturbed by the turns our nation has taken over the past decade, that would be the last draw, I wouldn't be able to live as an american any more.  I'd be too ashamed.

C'mon Hoss.....

Russia is no more a bully than those who would purposely drop cluster bombs/bomblets near heavily populated civilian areas a day before a planned pull-out after they were already badly beaten.

Russia is no more a bully than those who would violate Pakistan's sovereignty under false pretenses.

Russia is no more a bully than those who would sanction and continually threaten Iran after its own National Intelligence Estimate concluded Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program back in 2003...

I could go on and on and on.......but we both know that Russia is just protecting its interests ala the strategic landscape.

I see the United States as the true provocateur, who seems to be involved in every country's affairs, but at the same time, its own house is in a complete shambles....

At the end of the day, I see Vlad Putin as twenty times the leader/countryman than the whole Bush collective could ever hope to be….

 Heard Putin today, mention Iraq and our invasion ,to justify his invasion.

Wonderful.

Yet his country voted to authorize Iraq and Afghanistan in the Security Council. I dont remember anyone authorizing Russia to invade a democratic neighbor.

Putin is just looking for justification in the face of global condemnation. If Russia had a problem with Georgia, they should have first went to the Security Council to solve the problem. Instead they decided to start bombing in order to pound their chest. That makes this conflict illegal according to international law.

This isnt how civilized countries are supposed to be acting in the 21st century. For some reason, Russia wants to go back to the 1980s.

Ah, dry fucking the UN and tossing her off when done.

Didn`t you recently say the UN was a joke?

Now, it`s "used" as an example in a debate?

These are interesting times....

The west, with the USA and UK taking the lead set the precedent that Russia is following ie. Kosovo. The precedent being, if a province of a country wants to break away because of a minority has a majority in the province, then they can. South Ossetia and Abkhazia both have Russian majorities that want to break away.

The west shouldn't complain, it set the precedent. The dangers of the precedent they were setting was pointed out at the time.

As far as I'm concerned, this is nothing to do with the EU.

Outlaw85 -> RE: Russia invades Georgia (8/12/2008 12:59:41 AM)

kosovo broke away peacefully with the support of the international community.  not by having some other nation come in and blow the hell out of everything.   and what about chechnya?  they want to break away too, think the russians will let them?

Latest from the BBC on this situation.  And there is more information and maps on their Website concerning the history of the region.

Aren't you somewhat forgetting the civil war and NATO bombing?

It broke away peacefully in the end because Serbia had already tasted NATO bombing over Kosovo and didn't want to tadte it again and Serbia still claims Kosovo as part of Serbia!!!!

*Fast Reply*

Just a few quick tidbits...

Just a couple of months ago, Russia was arguing very hard to prevent Georgia from joining NATO, this may show some premeditation on their invasion.
http://www.reuters.com/article/asiaCrisis/idUSL06903575

Going to the UN for any kind of resolution would be a joke, as Russia maintains veto power on the security council.  Sure they might be embarassed over having to veto a resolution, but what would be the actual ramifications? None.

The US airlifted Georgian troops out of Iraq and back home to Georgia.  Watch for Russia to dismantle the elected government of Georgia within a week and insert their own puppet government.

Vendaval -> RE: Russia invades Georgia (8/12/2008 1:19:34 AM)

Is this military action really about protecting ethnic minorities that are Russian citizens or about Russia regaining control of the region?
