This was known during the run up to the primaries and yet the only news we got about it was through the National Enquirer. PMSNBC had a reporter on today saying that the reason they held back was the Edwards campaign had personally promised them that there was absolutely nothing to it, that it was just a rumor. If it were simply an affair, that would probably kill off any political aspirations higher than just staying a Senator. His wife is a tremendously sympathetic figure. But couple it with months of solid, consistent lying about it, and the guy's political poison now. And it sure doesn't help that Clinton's affair and lying preceded him.

I wonder what the pep talk is like right before they (pick your politician and whatever affair they just got popped being involved in) make a statement or do an interview. "Look your not the first and not the last and you just got caught. Just put on the I've been a bad boy look and talk about how you have let the whole world down. Tears are good. You only have to take the heat for about 3 to 6 weeks before someone else gets found out."

Elizabeth apparently has known about this for some time. She forgives him, and they have moved on... Considering my own open relationship with my spouse, I hardly think it's my place to stand in judgement of John Edwards... I wonder how many people on this site have been in threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes and are just aghast at this news? Here's the hard statistic (and I'm sure I'm going to be called on this because some dickhead will find a site with contradictory figures... social science are a "soft" discipline, so kindly spare us all the "fact and figure bullshit for once) Marriages have at best a 50-50 chance... men have a 60% probability of having at least one affair by age 40.... Women are in the 40% range of doing the same. According to Kinsey, almost 30% of all couples manage to get through these sort of crises, and come out stronger on the other side... From figures like this, (even if they are just in the ballpark) I would say that pure monogomy is something of a chimera... a myth. It seems a substaintial portion of humanity is non-monogamous, and is, in fact, living in a highly stressful, dishonest way in trying to even attempt it. Sya what you like about Edwards... at least he admitted the truth, both tho his wife, and to the public, when push came to shove... but it seems plenty of others didn't.

Yup,without the media stick`n to the story,Edwards might have escaped scrutiny.They`re so unfair. Apparently, this went down before deciding to run for prez.That`s some balls for ya.The wife knew and still backed him in running anyway.Then the cancer,..Jesus, that woman is one strong soul.
