ORIGINAL: Naira [clip]... I'd suggest reading a book called "He Said, She Said" by Dr. Deborah Tannen. It explores the differences between the way men express themselves and the way women express themselves in speech. It won't teach you exactly what a woman is thinking at every minute of the day...but it will explain how women use speech to get to the same goal as men, but in a very different way. Is it anything like the Mars/Venus books? The occasional good point, mired in over-generalizations? Naira, good recommendation! Deborah Tannen is a sociologist. She is (or was?) professor of linguistics, at Georgetown University. She takes a scholarly approach, observing the ways males and females relate to others and communicate, including differences in body language, group dynamics, use of speech, expression of emotions, etc. It's easy to find her books. She writes in an accessible, engaging style, and at the same time, her work is well regarded professionally. I find her observations astute, very informative and interesting. You've really made me want to return to this book, as I haven't read it in years. One little thing I've found interesting, since reading her observations on males in the company of other males, is that since then, I notice the same body language and dynamics portrayed all the time, in the male interaction in action films. Can't people, men and women alike, just talk? Say what we mean? Of course, I know the answer.... things would just be so much simpler....
