Have you thought that many Muslim women actually choose to wear a headscarf?

        Have you thought that many muslim women can legally be beaten, even killed, if they choose wrong?

same question to you.....

Post #: 58

Question,were you outraged or upset when we helped install Sharia law in Iraq,setting millions and millions of people back a hundred years and guaranteeing all those things you mentioned?

        I'm sorry, O59, your credibility is completely shot.  Please provide full sources and links (non-partisan sites only) to any historical events you reference.

You get tonight`s  "putting words in other`s mouths"prize.

How did I say shrub is responsible?

What were you implying in your very first post in this thread?  I know just another one of those imagined things by other posters here.

When to going gets tough,the tough get going,right out the back door.

Good dodge.

I`ll take that as a no,you weren`t upset about it. Or worse,you couldn`t care less.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For anyone else that`s interested in this subject,Google -Sharia law in Iraq,or something similar.
Thadius -> RE: Why Can't Many Muslim Women Compete in The Olympics? (8/11/2008 7:12:44 AM)
I was just thinking of a few events I would love to see women from these countries compete in.  Any diving event, especially synchronized diving in full bourkha, also swimming, and equestrian (I think the hats are mandatory, so it would be sort of a Zorro look).
Just sayin,
Thadius
Have any female competitors in the Olympics emigrated from those countries to other countries in order to compete?
I think it`s a bit arrogant and self-serving to impose our western ways into other cultures.
Our culture wins hearts and minds, all on it`s own. Forcing our culture on others ruins that whole process and gets us nowhere.We don`t need busy-body do-gooders going around telling people how to act and live.
This is an extension of the neurosis in this country,where folks feel they can impose their culture and ways on people coming to this country.These self anointed cultural busy-bodies figure,"hey,this is my country,you learn my ways,you learn my language,you learn my costumes".
I say we have a few messes and problems of our own to deal with and address,before we go looking to impose our supposedly higher culture on others.
DominaYork -> RE: Why Can't Many Muslim Women Compete in The Olympics? (8/11/2008 7:36:46 AM)
Saudi women I think would be happiest just to have the right to drive a car or travel without a male relation. I'm all for the right of a faith and country to be left alone but I think it's been forgotten here that most of these countries, not all by any means, but most are not secular democracies. They're theocracies instead which means religious law IS the law. That's scary stuff that. I, personally, don't want to be beaten for not having the proper socks on. Don't laugh, it has happened. Or locked in a room and forgotten about for daring to speak back to my husband. And Iraq was secular and actually quite progressive towards women until the US invasion.
Hey, I'm all for modesty if your faith says you should be modest. I live a stone's throw from the Amish. What I'm not for is the Amish telling me I can't drive or wear shorts and buttons because they don't.
There are a lot of groups working for women's rights and education of women across the globe. Just sending a girl to a school so can learn to read is a start. If the way things are upset you, words are cheap. Go out and volunteer or support the groups making a difference. I don't think anyone wants to make the world homogenized but I think being able to read is a good start.
Wow--I agree with FatDomDaddy!
The Olympics are now among the greatest shams in human history.
South Africa and Rhodesia were rightfully banned for their Aparthied policies toward sports, so why are counties like Saudi Arabia and Syria allowed to compete when they ban women?
It is however the business of the IOC.
Yeah, like banning slavery right???
Women are treated in much the same way as blacks were in Aparthied South Africa except I think, blacks in South Africa had a bit more freedom than women in Saudi Arabia.
The funny thing is, you know I am right about this issue and its killing you.
Tell us againg on why Islamic death squads, stoning to death rape victims and dumping their bodies in the Arabian Desert, is different from... what did you call them, death squads, warm guns and shallow graves of South Africa?
Aparthied is alive and well in Saudi Arabia by what ever name one wants to call it.
Now now, if they have what is it...? 4 witnesses, it can be declared a rape instead of her just being a dirty slut. [:'(]
Edited to add: even if she IS just a child.
Hardly.
But I don`t get it.
What does the Saudi version of Sharia law have to with the IOC?
Why haven`t you spoken up before about the dark side of Sharia law ?
If you were really interested(I don`t think you are),it wouldn`t be the IOC you`d use to seek a solution.
Your shrub and party,the GOP ,have much much more influence to do something about repression of women in Saudi Arabia ,than the IOC.
And,will we hear more posts from you in the future decrying Sharia law,and not just during the Olympics?
You`ve asked a lot of questions,trying to be clever and using innuendo.
Why don`t you give us your own answers to your questions and tell us what you`re getting at?
Why,IYO, has SA and other countries, been getting away with this for so long?
When you posted this thread the 1st time(it got pulled,thanx Ron),you chided liberals and wondered what they would say about this(as if there was something they could do).
Why was that?
And you haven`t aswered my question about the establishment of Sharia law in Iraq.
So far,no one`s manned up and responded to that question.
Another great question,we do business with the Chinese,true bad faith players and scorn Cuba,a pimple 90 miles south of Florida,why is that?
Could it have to do w/ money,power and influence?
But only because the other party is out election campaigning right? After all, it has been MUCH  better has it been in the last 2 years compared to the prior 6. Higher minimum wage, longer unemployment benefits, all this 'economic stimulus' fueled by the checks issued, another 18 months from February commitment to troops in Iraq. I think the accomplishments of this last Congress speak for themselves; similar to the IOC's success in addressing humanitarian efforts of its members and this Olympic host country. Or maybe the IOC supports the one child rule somewhere in their charter.
Or did your party abdicate their congressional majority and the news hasn't been published by the National Enquirer, currently the only source for breaking news, yet. Sad day when truth is only covered by the same paper that highlights a horseback riding Chihuahua puppy.
It would be interesting to know who takes more money; elected US Senators/Congressmen (BOTH parties) or the IOC? My bet is that that they vacation in the same exclusive resorts; paid for by similar interest groups.
I can't say for certain, but I suspect it's because they feel slightly disadvantaged due to the wind resistance caused by the required head coverings.
