I love kneeling and being on my knees at the feet of a Master.  But I have really skinny ankles and it doesn't take long for my ankles to start hurting.  Not as much on carpet but it still hurts.  Any ideas on how to help fix this.

Don't kneel and find a more comfortable and probably safer position?  Or use a cushion.
Mind you, your dominant may be enjoying your discomfort, so check with him first.

My circulation is pretty poor so my feet start to cramp after a few moments sitting back on my heels. Usual I kneel slightly forward taking some of the weight onto my hands, so it is almost and all fours position. Alternatively I sit on my ass, with my legs tucked in to the side. If, however, its kneeling for "official" purposes- in a nadu for instance - you just need to find ways to manage the discomfort.

but as dark said (smoooochies and licks dark) check with your D ... he may want or like specific poses, or not care at all.

Practice makes perfect. Kneeling is not the most natural position...the first time you try it, it's bloody murder on your legs and joints. Eventually, it hurts less and less. I suggest you spend a few minutes kneeling each day, if you can. Eventually you build up the muscles for it (or immunity from it, I suppose).

Without using anything to make the ground softer, you will get (noticeably) rougher skin on knees. But practice might give amazing results.

you can get little bench thingies for meditating on.  Two upright supports and a tilted slat across it, about 10 inches high perhaps, it goes under the bum with the legs sticking under neet the stool.  Useful if you have to kneel for long periods.

I have heard of practicing before.  I think I would like to try it.  But whats a good amount of time a day to do this?  Like, time-frame, as in 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc.

practicing the position can be helpful, be sure to communicate that it a issue and my need to be addressed. in my case i love to be at the feet of my M'Lady however i have a knee injury thats related to deployment in the conflict and this is accounted for in y instance. my M'lady allows me to modify my position to allow for comfort. mind she has me in some positions for the purpose of the pain but not to cause injury just discomfort. all to her pleasure.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'm gonna try practicing often.

For those of you that commented He might want me to hurt... there is no he right now lol.  I just enjoy kneeling as a submissive, but I am as of yet uncollared.  We're working on that though, I might get a collar soon!  I'm excited.

I have really fat thighs and my thigh muscles are tight and it makes kneeling very uncomfortable after a while. I'm working on stretching the front and back thigh muscles so that I can last longer.

You might consider some calf stretching to help to strengthen your ankles.

i'm going to gently disagree with you.

sometimes, pain means STOP THIS RIGHT NOW.  example, i have damage due to knee surgery that caused some of the nerves to be permanently severed in my left knee.  since there are numb places, kneeling (for me) is quite risky...i cant tell if i'm positioned ok, or if i'm putting weight on the knee and hurting it more till i stand.  the knee collapsing means i did it wrong, and am going to pay by having to wear the knee brace and be on crutches a week or so.  no thanks.

some peope can build up tolerances, some cannot.

Admittedly, I didn't think of that. I guess I assumed the OP had no medical issues that would prohibit kneeling... Just going by my own experience, with healthy legs, practice helped me out a lot.

I started kneeling in martial arts (wood floor...owie). Sensei would have us kneel as long as we were comfortable, then switch to a different position. Of course, being eager to please and somewhat competative, I'd always go too far and then my legs would be asleep or bruised, but that's a different story. Sit on your knees while doing something else (like watching TV) and stay there as long as it's comfortable (or painful within limits). Then get up, stretch and shake out your legs, then go back to the cozy couch. Try again the next day.

Arastella,

A wider thigh spread with a small pillow under the ankles will take the pressure off.

A thick pillow, a kneeling bench, a low stool and other alternative positions. Despite what it says in any of the Gor books, you can be just as submissive sitting next to him on a sofa as down on the floor. The desire to submit to a certain someone is in the heart, not the knees.

also, and this worked for me, I made a little bag to fit my 3 lbs medicine balls in right? i put the handle on the bag on the upper most part of my foot, directly forward of the ankel you know? anyway slipp the handle over my foot and extended my legs to have my feet off the edge of the bed so the medicine balls now in the bag would hang off my foot? and then lifted and lowered my foot (foot only...the legs dont move) to work and strech that muscel out. I started doing it to work the strength in my feet up for ballet heels. but it really helps with kneeling too.
