FatDomDaddy -> Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 12:47:36 PM)

Funny... the streets of London, Paris, Manhattan, The Mall and Lafayette Park in DC, and such are pretty quiet. No anti-War sign brigades, no mass sing alongs of "Give Peace a Chance", no candle light vigils. What gives?

I thought War Protestors and The Peace Crowds were against all Wars of "aggression"?  It seems they are pretty quick to the street and well organized  when  it is the United States that they have targeted but they are remarkably silent about the Russians?

I wonder why?

Peacniks...hmmm...Go figure.

*yawn*

How did you get net access under that bridge?

Oh they have already been around, well at least the ones on this board... they are blaming this on the US.  For our allegiance with Georgia, and other policies.

Alumbrado -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 12:53:38 PM)

I'm sure some of the regular faux-liberals will be along shortly to explain why this is different..as soon as they get fed the appropriate sound bites to regurgitate.

servantforuse -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 12:56:04 PM)

This will be the liberals new talking point. If we can invade Iraq, Russia should be able to invade Georgia. Just watch pmsmbc tonight.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 12:59:06 PM)

Oh I've seen some Thadius but they are awfully quite publicly eh?

Maybe I am wrong???

Ya think the same organizers of the Iraq War Protests in London, Paris, New York ar al are getting ready to gin up  Protests this weekend?

Nahhhhhhh.

Ca mon folk(ies) lets hear it... "ALL WE ARE SAYING_____"

Thadius -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 1:02:31 PM)

Are you trying to encourage them? Or just point out the difference in their stances? [;)]

cyberdude611 -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 1:07:42 PM)

It is interesting though....

Instead of attacking Russia for committing the conflict....the anti-war leftists blame American policy for forcing Russia to do it.

Its amazing how these people are able to twist every negative event overseas in such a way to somehow blame America for it.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 1:08:21 PM)

LOL... Both.

I may join them this time!

It is funny though how they only protest fighter planes, tanks, bombs and troop deployments when they are US fighter planes, tanks, bombs and troop deployments.

Thadius -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 1:08:55 PM)

Well, it is an American ally that is being attacked, so I guess that makes it okay.

You and Thadius, in a self serving manner, are misrepresenting (butchering, actually) the "leftist" position.

This is actually more to the point:

in a world of uncontrolled forces, conservatives sought to impose complete control, whether by pursuing technological fixes (like the nuclear missile shield) or treating US security as if it were something that could simply be willed. Because many conservatives presume exceptional American virtue, and believe that this virtue is self-evident to others, they have also consistently failed to see how aggressive US actions can appear abroad, and how the fear they generate can give rise to threatening behavior by others, who believe they are acting in self-defense.

Thadius -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 1:26:50 PM)

So now you are suggesting that Russia is only acting in self defense?  Interesting position.

Even if we take it from that point of view.  What reasoning do you give for Russia agreeing to a cease fire, but still bombing towns and moving armor closer to the capital of Georgia?

cloudboy -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 1:41:38 PM)

I don't know what Russia is up to. Maybe they borrowed Paul Wolfowitz's position paper on foreign affairs.

Unlike the paranoia in the US, at least the Russians have some historical precedent for their own: The Mongols, Swedes, Poles, French, and Germans have all invaded Russia in the past. We've never had such hostile neighbors, except for maybe the American Indians. I wonder how we treated them on their lands?

Also, why don't we give credit to Russia for freeing its own serfs without having to engage in a civil war to get there.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 2:56:08 PM)

I am perplexed because this thread is just been accused of trolling yet the silence of the International Anti-War Movement/ Peace Movement over the Russian Invasion is deafen.

One would think the Peace Crowd would be as against the Russian invasion of Georgia as they were against the US/Great Britain led coalition that invaded Iraq.

So why is Russia getting a pass???

youngsubgeoff -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 2:59:34 PM)

because quite frankly we realize we cant control what another nation does. however, russia should have to answer to the UN for this

Thadius -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 3:01:57 PM)

The worst that the UN security council can do to Russia is draft a resolution, that will be promptly vetoed by Russia.

youngsubgeoff -> RE: Where are the War Protesters??? Why is Russia Getting a Pass??? (8/13/2008 3:18:15 PM)

sadly the UN is indeed an ineffective body. It seems the world today runs on ineffectiveness, if not incompetence

Yet 100's of thousand will take to the street when its the United States and these were not just Americans. The Iraqi War Proteters in London, Paris were international affairs and the organizers were all to quick that it was WAR itself they were protesting just as much as US policy.

From the other thread about the invasion, it looks like people are still trying to figure out what the heck is going on over there, but for the most part ARE against it.  But acknowledging that would invalidate your trollness, and this thread.

Again, nothing we can control. Though I have a feeling alot of people are distracted by the olympics
