Obama's Foreign Donors: The media averts its eyes

quote:

But Obama pricked up his ears. He smelled trouble and while no media asked, he answered anyway. Sen. Obama's campaign immediately scrambled and contended they had returned the  $33,500 in illegal contributions from Palestinians in Hamas-controlled Gaza, despite the fact that records do not show that it was returned and the brothers said they have not received any money. Having gone through all of Obama's refunds redesignations etc, no refund was made to Osama, Hossam, or Edwan Monir in the Rafah refugee camp. And still no media.

How the hell did three people in a refugee camp get that kind of money?

Pretty soon someone's going to say "the joke's over" and then they'll pull out the real democratic candidate.

McCain's top foreign policy advisor got money from Georgia.

"WASHINGTON — John McCain's chief foreign policy adviser and his business partner lobbied the senator or his staff on 49 occasions in a 3 1/2-year span while being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by the government of the former Soviet republic of Georgia.

The payments raise ethical questions about the intersection of Randy Scheunemann's personal financial interests and his advice to the Republican presidential candidate who is seizing on Russian aggression in Georgia as a campaign issue."

Damn good question.

Did you also read the part about Obama's website accepting donations charged to a Macy's credit card?  (I know politicians and political candidates are for sale, but I didn't realize Macy's had a white sale on them).
quote:

Julia Gorin told me a funny story two months ago. Her husband's co-worker wanted to see what would happen if he tried giving a contribution to the Obama campaign via a credit card. He used his Macy's card. The system accepted it. He tried the same with McCain's campaign, and the transaction wouldn't go through.  Now, obviously, down the line, the Obama transaction would fail as well, but it goes to the point that there is no safety system in place -- it'll just accept any and all money, which helps explain how his campaign raised so much more money than everyone else's.

For Obama, words do matter.  The words that matter most:  "Cash, check, or charge?"

Yea, the same can be said for every person in politics.  It's not like McCain is wearing a halo, you just choose to accept all his wrong doings.

Read the post above yours.  At least no one on Obama's staff is lobbying for them

Tell ya what -- you can have it be -visible- or -invisible-. At least with Obama, we can find out who his contributors are. That will be a HUGE change. Just try and find out where PAC money comes from and who is shelling out the big bucks for which political considerations when money is coming from lobbying groups. I'd rather have 2 million+ individuals "owning" my president than 6 lobbying groups.

To me, it's like locally-grown, sustainably raised food -- it may be more expensive, on a cost-per basis... but the long term results are a lot more palatable.

Yup - the ever mature and astute "so's your mom!" type reply.

For both sides - isn't it possible to highlight a positive about your guy? Based upon the reactionary; "Yeah butt - your guy does the same thing but worse!"

The comparative politics illustrates the bottom line come November - Pick you poison.

That's what you can expect as a response to this kind of oh so mature attack:

Come on kittin, you couldn't find something on the Daily Kos?

I do like the way they describe what is going on between... "Former Soviet republic of Georgia" and Russia.
--------------------------------------

Just curious when Obama is going to fire Axelrod, since his company is in fact a lobbying firm.  ASK Public Strategies.

Let's face it folks, even these 2 politicians that have made huge changes to who and how they receive money, are getting money from overseas and are either directly or indirectly hiring lobbyists.  Both are doing it.

Foreign donations to American political campaigns is illegal.
quote:

The Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) prohibits any foreign national from contributing, donating or spending funds in connection with any federal, state, or local election in the United States, either directly or indirectly. It is also unlawful to help foreign nationals violate that ban or to solicit, receive or accept contributions or donations from them. Persons who knowingly and willfully engage in these activities may be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.

Randy Scheunemann's previous PR and lobbying work on behalf of Georgia is quite legal and in no way violates FECA.

If you want to debate the merits and wisdom of including Mr. Scheunemann on McCain's campaign team, by all means start a thread on that topic and I will be happy to contribute. However, there is no valid comparison to be made between his very legal business activities and Obama's very illegal foreign campaign contributions.

So would I--as long as those 2 million individuals are all Americans. Folks from the Gaza strip have no business contributing to American political campaigns--and in fact it is illegal to accept money from them.

Hiya CL,

I didn't read you link, yet.  I am curious did it mention the Cali brothers, or contributions from the "972" zip code?

I wonder when the Lifeboat project finishes their Asteroid Shield and Death Ray Shield and so forth, if there will be anyone who looks like Obama in their miracle city of Oceania, or their spaceship refuge?

And then of course we have more 'concerned citizens' making sure that we know all about Kerry's secret jew status, and Obama's mom's jungle fever....

Do you have any illumination to bring to the points raised in her blog?

Are her facts in error?

What refutations do you offer?
