Foil packets of veggies with an ice cube, season salt,  and a pat of butter cooked on the edges of the grill are nice too...

Had to perve you to see where you were from before I answered.

OK, shellfish out, unless you can smoke up some shrimp, and horseradish sauce.

Soak clean and cut corn on the cob in salt water, put on high grill......veggies raw, and smoke your blue cheese sauces, and so on.......

Grilled pineapple is fabulous too, but I would offer that with dessert, not as an appetizer.

There, I quoted you.  But I prefer my "fuck appetizers" to be of the human-touching variety, not necessarily of the burn-your-mouth-with-hot-shit variety.  Your mileage may vary.

Hiya Ronnie,

And see I love olive oil.  I put it on everything...well...just about everything.

Watch that cholesterol, my friend.  We need your warpedness around here for awhile.

OK, Usually I have no trouble comeing up with something to cook around here, It's my specialty, my fav hobby and past time. this weekend Im hosting a cookout for Master and I's friends. It's my first one for them so...obviously super nervous about it....which is silly but eh...its what I do. So Im makeing sweet/tangy bbq pork ribs for the main, I have a selection of light beers, and a refreshing mixed drink for the Ladies and those with lighter palates, and a minty lemonade for the kids. Ok so Im trying to steer away from the comfort bbq food you know? baked beans, stuffed deviled eggs and the like. Im having the damned time coming up with an appetizer. I want something interesting and different, I was thinking maybe some grilled salad, (actual grilled green leaf )  but all the recipes I can find for that have a distinctly asian feel to it, and...that wouldent work at all with the rest of the flavors I have picked out.

The Bbq is a slightly spicey, reletively smokey, marginally sweet and very tangy taste  with a tomatoe base (think...more liquid smoke and vinigar then brown sugar..lip smackin i tell you)

the drinks are all citrus based, the beer is an apple cider, the mixed drink is a vodka peachy lemony thingy i made myself, and the lemonade for the kids.

So.......any ideas?

What about couscous? I just made one with grilled veggies in it that was very simple and good.

Edited to add: with the mention of the grilled salad I was a little confused as to whether you were looking for a side dish or an appetizer, but with al the citrus and acidic tasting food I'd do something very mellow as an appetizer. I'm a huge fan of white pizza's, cut with cookie cutters to be individual/bite sized, or in a similar vein you could do a quesadila with just cheese and veggies, or also plantains are very tasty and mellow, you could do plantain chips as a really simple make ahead appetizer.

Wild, I think your application to the genius club will be approved. I think quesadillas are an excellent idea.

That would be even better if they are homemade, they don't need meat because you will be eating meat anyway. I don't think they are all that hard to make, but the question becomes what to put in them. And although it would be more trouble, I think the skinny ones would be better. I'd figure on three per guest, making them only about an inch in diameter. You don't want to fill them up and you don't want much leftovers because they do not reheat well.

Believe me I tried, and I am a bachelor and have become an expert on reheating. I can do alot of things, in fact I can make frenchfries better than when they were fresh. But I can't seem to get good results with quesadillas.

So if we are talking a spicy main dish here, I would stay pretty close to the classic filling, which is pretty much cheese, onion, garlic or powder, peppers but not too much peppers. Usually the store boughten ones have meat in them. I would omit the meat, but find something else.

I just sat here thinking for a bit ....... spinach, those mini brocolli flourettes, usually they are dried, what would you stuff a porkchop with ? Spinach and brocolli though, should not be mixed. It's one or the other, or totally something else.

I can't think of anything else right now, but maybe you will. And there is no law that says there can be no meat in them. That's just a suggestion.

I am looking for a bbq sauce I like. They are all too sweet, and as a result I haven't had bbq in a long time. Last time I went to one my buddy made mine without sauce and I put hot sauce on it.

I am always looking for different things to cook. I used to cook almost every day, and some of it was quite good, but I am sick of it. There are days I literally don't eat because I am sick of everything. Part of it is all the things I won't eat. I haven't McD's in a very long time, years, possibly a decade. I am actually considering it, I know it is junk but one time is not going to kill me. Maybe six months later I'll do Burger King. But that's just for a change, I will not start eating at these places again.

So I understand the desire to make something new and different. My adventure into chicken paprikash turned out to be a hit, I learned my way through it. Now I have to take the leftovers first or there will be no leftovers. I have some in the freezer right now, but I don't want it right now. Even though I only make it about once a year, I am sick of it. Time will come and I will get a taste for it, but not today.

I just looked up the couscous and in my opinion, unless the servings are very small it will probably be too filling.

Failing other appetizers, there is always veggies and dip, but then maybe you just make a unique dip. I have actually discovered the secret of the original Lawson's chip dip. It was the absolute best hands down, and now I know why. I won't go into it right now, but if asked I will.

BTW, when is this bbq going to happen, I mean how much time do you have ? If you have 20 guests that would be 60 quesadillas. That takes time. A local place here gets five bucks for four quesadillas, and they are getting it. And these are the small ones.

Well that's my ideas on the topic for this fine Thursday night. One warning though, if you make really good quesadillas your friends will haunt (or hunt) you for them.

While it looks interesting, I'd agree that it probably wouldn't mesh with your menu. But just for clarification are you looking for salad/side alternatives or are you looking more broadly for appetizer ideas?

How about girls with small tits?  A delicacy; that, unless I miss my guess, will be talked about till  the NEXT dawn of time...garnish the presentation with girls with big tits.

You can't burn that sorta cooking.

How about the appetizer serving tray?  A freshly showered slave or two wrapped in saran wrap makes for an excellent presentation.
