I'd prefer not to hijack this thread with a discussion on gender, so I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. What I will say is this - gender, while tied to sex, is not equivalent to sex. And even if it were, there are (technically speaking) four sexes. Gender is a mental construct, which is why many cultures have entirely different ideas of what "male" and "female" mean.. I grew up in Hawaii, where we have what are known as "Mahuwahine" and "Mahukane," which sociologists and anthropologists would refer to as third and fourth genders, and because there's such a large Samoan community, I was also exposed to the idea of the "fa'afine" which is also a very distinct third gender. The fluidity of gender is a fact of life where I live. People *are* complex, and this is just one of the many ways in which that complexity manifests.
