Really, it's a human interest story. I didn't even attach an opinion to it when I posted it but of course it was instantly another vast right-wing conspiracy... has to be!!!

Why isn't anyone talking about how great it is that they found Obama's long-lost half brother?

Thanks Kittin
Whether it is is Obama or McCain though, why does it matter?
Brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers - actions performed by people who aren't them matters because...?

And how can he be long lost, if he as already visited him last year?

the.dark.

How can it be a 'human interest story about him being found' if - as it states in the report (and is pretty well known) - he wasn't lost?  Estranged, maybe - but long lost?  No.  I would much rather see a genuine report rather than a sensationalist headline that isn't strictly true, wouldn't you Sanity?

To be 'fair' to Vanity Fair, they simply said they had tracked him down(hence the word 'found' used).  It is the right wing newspapers proclaiming that the man was 'lost'.  Classic misuse of wording to make people associate 'found' in the wrong way.

That's not the journalistic criteria at all, is it. Whether he was lost, long-lost, estranged or joined at the hip, it's still a human interest story. Why are you protesting so much, I don't get it. The only thing that comes to mind is that you're ashamed that Obama hasn't used some of his vast wealth to help this poor man.

So THAT'S the conspiracy. Us evil right-wingers used the word "lost".

How dastardly of us.

I see now. This has nothing to do with Obama at all...

Apart from being his brother, nope, nothing to do with Obama at all.
And I don't know nor care if you are right wing.  The newspapers that printed the misleading headlines are, there is no conspiricy there, just fact.  Obamas brother has hardly been 'lost' in the sense he couldn't be found at all, nor that he didn't know who his brother is nor that they haven't seen each other ever. They are estranged, not missing.

Besides, I would much rather read that Jesus is scared of swimming... that might actually have some truth.

Last I checked, a half brother was the child from an entirely different family, of which one member used to be married to one of your parents... the obligation to search the globe and support for life everyone in that category is found where again?

Or is this just part deux of 'Obama must apologize for every black person he's ever been linked to no matter how remotely'?

Because it's a non story?  Obama has a brother - whoop. And?  That was my question.  Darcy has one too - does that get headlines?  What makes it such a big deal?  Or are you just a person who enjoys soaps and bad drama on t.v?  See if that is true, then I can understand why this is such a big deal.  But for me?  Not so much.

As for whether he can help out this 'poor man' - why should he?  A) the man is obviously embarressed so why should he be bothered and b) Just because Obama is family, why does that mean he has to look after him?

Meh, but then, I am a hard woman.

Well then why all the protests. If its a non-story why are all the usual suspects so upset about it. Why not just let the thread die. Why all the drama...

That's all that came to mind to explain it. The guy is his half-brother, living on a dollar a month...

You are the one making assumptions, I asked a question.  Why are you so worried about who is liberal and who is right wing?  The paper is right wing, not strongy so, but all the papers making the sensational headline(wrongly) are right wing.  The only reason I pointed that out is because as far as I know, Vanity Fair doesn't have an affiliation(like suggested in another post).

Why do you assume I am this socalled 'liberal'?

I'm not "worried" about your political affiliations, but I feel pretty safe in assuming that you're no Conservative.

Yeah, "lost", you conservatives are real bastards!
How dare you use the word "lost" in that or any other context!
And with Socialist Obama he won't go and find *HIS* checkbook to help this guy or Kenya, no, he'll have a "re-distribution of wealth" and steal U.S. Taxpayer Dollars to send over there if he can sneak it by congress!

"I live here on less than a dollar a month."
Here it comes, we're supposed  to feel "sorry" for him and the people of his country because they're "poor."
Obama made the statement that he wants to "double foreign aid."

Does that mean he'll be getting two dollars a month?

Can you imagine what it is doing people in that part of the world to see prices on food staples doubling in an extremely short period of time

Senator Barack Obama's long lost brother has been tracked down for the first time living in a shanty town in Kenya, reports claimed.

Mr Obama, 26, the youngest of the presidential candidate's half-brothers, spoke for the first time about his life, which could not be more different than that of the Democratic contender.

"No-one knows who I am," he told the magazine, before claiming: "I live here on less than a dollar a month."

uhm... ok... they share gentetic DNA..... that does not mean Obama is responsible for his father's actions at all.

I have half-siblings scattered around the world from my father's seed-sowing days... before he & my mother's marriage, during the 13 years they were married, and after the divorce.  Means nothing to me.  He was nothing more than a sperm donor in my book-- I have no wish to find them (if they are lost even), and certainly have no desire to try to support them financially!
