There is so much that is posted on the boards... a variety of topics that makes it almost impossible to follow everything or read everything.

So... what some of the things that attract you to the various threads?

For myself... it is of course.. like many something that specifically interests me... but so often what interests me is not immediately available or it's hidden within threads.  My girls are good at giving me a heads up when I see things that they know that will interest me.  But one of the techinques I use to follow things.. is to take note of who is posting to a thread.  This morning.. I see a new thread posted... opened up the thread and instead of reading the OP.. I skimmed down to see who posted.  I quickly noticed that there was some quality individuals that posted in the thread... so now .. when I have a bit of time.. I am going to go back and read what is being talked about.

Quality people in general tend to give you quaility results.  Even when something doesn't interest me.. I find that I am getting drawn to threads that have these quality people posting in.  There is so much to this lifestyle .. and I find that if all I did was read what interested me... I wouldn't really be opening myself to new ideas only to ideas that would validate my own opinions.  So.. I watch the people that I feel are quality individuals more than I am actually watching for things that interest me.  I am finding new life for myself on the boards for this reason alone.  For many that have been around doing what we do... after awhile new ideas on what interest you just don't come along very often.. in fact it rarely happens.  So many topics on the boards are just repeats of older threads...  But quaility people keep old ideas fresh for me.. also.. observing and reading these posts really open up my mind to things I didn't consider or think about before.  The list is not complete but when you read people like the.dark and Dark, Bita, Micheal, Mercandbeth, LaTigresse, Erin, Madrabbit, MissTress, MaamJay and Lucky ... just to name a few.  Individuals like this draw out more quaility people.. there are some I never take notice before..but am starting to because they posted in threads that some of the quaility people enjoyed... infact some of the quality people I watch for now... started that way for me.

So... quality attracts me!  I don't expect to agree with what they say and I don't even expect any of them to be on top of their game on every single post.. sometimes like me.. they say somthing rather foolish.... but more often than not.. I have enjoyed the mental stimulation.

Quality attracts me as well.  There are a few threads I'll skip over - those that are 'done to death'.  Sometimes the OP draws me in with a unique problem/issue/viewpoint or with their sincerity.

What attracts me is when the OP is, or is at least trying to be, deeply open about themselves.  I love that and this is the best online place for that I have ever found.  I do enjoy skewering the occasional chest thumper but that does get old.

I look at who post the thread. If it is a subject that I am interested in I read it to see the different prespectives. The powers that be prefer me to read the threads rather than post my own.

I'm usually drawn to the title of a thread.  If it seems like something I can contribute to, relate to, or learn something from, then I stop by and read it or post there.

Interest in the subject.
Quality of the post.
Boredom.

I like it when there's not many responses too... cause then I can usually say my piece without it already been said several times over. :p
I don't like being redundant. ;)

I have been a serious lurker of the forums for a number of years,  simply because I enjoy the mental stimulation they provide. Many times, I have found that my thoughts and feelings have already been eloquently worded and therefore don't post.
Quality posts are attractive to me as well. I will often find myself reading something simply because of who the original poster was or just as likely because of who last commented on the thread. Even though I have been around the block a time or two, a new approach or perspective can shed light on a topic I long thought was old news. An interesting topic, even if it is a repeat also tends to attract a wider response from people, some like myself that had not previously posted and others who opinion may have changed due to new circumstances, knowledge or experience.
Thank you for starting this thread. I look forward to reading the responses it will recieve.

The title, location and OP usually. Most of what I reply to I see on the scroller on the side.

I have many things that draw me to a post and they depend upon what I'm looking for in the moment. Like you KoM, quality people always draw me. (thank you for such a nice compliment to include me in such a group) There are certain people who I look for when I sign on. I scan over the topics and and the names and decide from there. Usually if a thread is posted to or by someone of quality I will read the post, even if it's not necessarily a topic that really draws me in. I go from there to topics of interest. I will also admit that sometimes I find myself drawn to the insane, ridiculous and stupid drama filled threads...but more for the comic relief aspect...they are like sitcoms. Every once in awhile, something will go by on that scroller at the top of the page that catches my eye and I go off in search of that too. As for the topics that have been done to death, lately I find myself letting them go by....but if they are still up and running a few days later I will peek in and see if anything interesting is being said.

I'm drawn to different threads for different reasons.  As you pointed out there are people that are known for quality posts.  I enjoy reading the things they post.  I don't alway respond directly to what they have posted, because I feel I have nothing more to add.   Basically, where I have nothing to contribute that's anything different.

Depends the topic as well.  If it provoke any thought or emotional reaction.  Some threads just make me want to roll my eyes.

When it comes to threads by people asking for advice.  I might become really serious and make a thoughtful post or the other hand I might make a few snarky remarks.   I know for a fact, that I don't alway make high quality posts on here.

I will say this, quality posts generally get quality responses and reactions.

Some threads I don't post on because my reaction is to simply kick back and think about the matter, watch what other people post.

There's always some Gem of thought that is buried in the crazy snarky threads that are on the edge of being hijacked too.

I have noticed that Drama filled threads seem to run on for endless pages.  Those a bit entertaining.   Then there are the heated Debate threads that run on for pages as well.

What attracts me to the various threads, all depends upon several different reason.  I'm simply attracted to different threads for different reasons.  However, they have to either provoke thought or emotion.

Sometimes, I answer because I want to express my point of view or my experiences and want to gain/read other insights or perspectives.  Other times I respond simply to figure out my own point of view regarding the topic.

For me it is the title first, then the poster, then the amount of time that I have on my hands.  (I'll read threads with titles that don't interest me if I have more time.)  I don't care what discussion group they are under because I enjoy reading most viewpoints.

And of course, those frequent poster miles.

Thank you KoM. I am honoured.

What draws me will vary day by day, depending on how much time I have to read and comment, the mood I am in, what my tollerance for bullshit is on any given day, who created the thread, what the subject is, who is participating, etc. Also, I have a few friends that occasionally email me a link to one that I may have missed.

There are a handful of posters that will instantly give me a reason to read their words. I also like to watch the newer people to see if they are going to stick around or disappear off into the great internet abyss. It is sometimes really interesting to watch the evolution of some of the newer ones.

Mostly though, I like reading things written by people that think and live quite differently than I do. It opens my mind, helps me see things in a different light.

Rarely it's the title but most of the time it's the poster. There are just some posters that I will read no matter what they have to say mainly because I've grown to respect their points of view.

Mainly, the poster.....there are quite a few whom I'll check out what they have to say whether it's something I'll post an answer to or not.  If the title of a thread catches my eye, I'll check it out......however, there are those with a wickedly keen sense of irony, so titles of posts can sometimes be a bit misleading!  And I tend to hang out on P&RS for a good laugh!  I've made a few friends on that area of the boards that I cherish.

There are those posts that I will NOT read simply because of the poster that started it.......trolls, drama queens/kings, a proven track record of stupidity......and maybe I'm a snob, but if the person posting can't use proper spelling and English, then I'll skip right over their posts....I don't want to have to figure out what it is they are trying to say!

I lurked for quite a while before I started posting, and can say I have learned TONS of information from these boards and posters.  I too think that this is one of the best sites for the lifestyle, and pretty much only hang out here.

I started out reading everything, that didn’t last long. To much bickering and name calling cured me real fast. I haven’t been posting or reading the forums long, but already I have noted who is worth listening to, who tends to take the time for well thought out responses, or who is here just to thump their chest and hear themselves speak. The subject of a thread is attracts me first. The quality of what is posted keeps me. The one sure fire way to loose my interest is name calling and slamming the OP, I don’t see the value in it. It takes a measure of bravery to post a question, right or wrong, and to watch the OP sliced to shreds makes me take pause before ever putting myself in that place

Usually the title or recognising the Op is someone i usually like to read.
The problem for me with flicking through and reading if it has quality posters in it is that, you never know when you might miss a gem from someone else
