ok is this just Me, or does continual bad spelling make you crazy? Im not talking some multisyllables, I'm talking--the basic simple three and four letter words??? Bad spelling, makes Me nuts!

Yes and no.

Typos that are just typos don't bug me. Understandable misspellings don't bug me. Hell, I do it all the time.

What DOES bug me are missuse of terms "they're" 'there" and "their" for example. or "your" and "you're." Or the use of "u" "r' etc. Drives me crazy.

It makes me much less crazy than bizarre uses of capitalization or inane slashed spellings of personal pronouns that S/some P/people insist on using. [;)]

No, I can't say it makes me crazy. People will make typing errors, I'm no wonderful typist myself and some suffer from dyslexia and might not see the difference between words like their, there or they're. I try to look at the content.
Long posts with slashes or in font colours like pink I do find hard to read but they don't drive me nuts, I just pass them by.

[:D] That was my thought, too. I can get over the occasional teh, or adn, but the "S/she should make U/us some tea for O/our dinner..." Drives me up the wall.

Actually no, it does not.

In fact, any expression of oneself, outward appearance, manner of conversing, sense of humor, or lack of, how they treat others AND written expression are clear indicators of whether there is any reason to believe that this is a person you would initially feel comfortable and compatible with..

Just in case you are wondering James...the way you typically post is not "graphically appealing". It's just unreadable.

In general, I figure if someone can't make an effort to use clear, standard English that is mostly free of spelling and grammatical errors...they probably really don't want to communicate with me.

Reading really poorly written posts makes me feel like I am dealing with someone whose intelligence is on par with a 6 year old. I'd rather pay attention to the adults.

I love a man that uses "spell check" and does so correctly.

The above complaint would bother me with a more formal correspondence, but I've found that my own fingers work faster than my brain sometimes, and the automatic words type themselves. It happens.

Although it is something I notice.
It doesn't drive me nut's[8|].

I would rather someone express themselves than worry if they can spell or punctuate correctly.

And I kind of like the capitilization on certain words because it lets me know how the person would be emphasizing as they speak, which helps me when there is no visual expressions to the post or conversation.

I teach English, so you would think that I would respond to perfect spelling, grammar, and attention to detail...and I do! lol But on the other hand, the content of any correspondence, as well as the genuine feeling behind it, is more important than the presentation. So perfect syntax doesn't necessarily get a sub's foot in the door to me, and imperfect spelling and grammar doesn't necesssarily shut it in his face either. They just have to hit me on the right day. [:D]

I know what you mean about the spelling--I grew up thinking that bad spelling was the sign of a really stupid person...but my life experience has taught me differently.

Please keep in mind that some of our greatest minds are dyslexic and can not spell a word the same way twice (thus spell check is not helpful). My daughter's IQ is over 140 and she can not spell at all. It is a true disability. BUT it seems as if the not being able to spell and the thinking outside of the box ability are inversely related. So, you may find that these folks are incredibly creative intelligent people and I bet they would serve you well or be well served by you.

now...if you can spell and you don't-- take a minute and clean it up!

This certainly isn't what I thought my first post would be about.

I am a spelling/grammar freak... so yes, misspellings do bother me. Especially the "u" "2" "r" variety. The occasional "lol" or "brb" doesn't get to me as much but if that's all the conversation consists of it becomes wearing on the nerves. However, I'm usually willing to overlook a few typographical errors if there is an interesting mind or solid content behind them. My first longterm roleplay partner (strictly story, not play) was simply *awful* at spelling and grammar but I loved his story ideas and characters and the way he interacted with my character, so I played with him for a very long time. And I eventually rubbed off on him; his spelling/grammar improved immensely and when I posted snippets of old stories/lines that were funny, he said he couldn't believe how bad it was. I believe the exact quote was "HOLY GOD MY GRAMMAR WAS POOR." Literacy *does* win you extra points in my book, however. Especially when combined with intelligence. [;)]

Adding my two cents. It's all about effort. Ofcourse no sane person would jump down anyone's throat for a few typos. That said, this is a message board, all I have to judge you on is in text. If you can not put the, oh so little, effort of typing out words like 'you' in your message; why should I take the effort to read it?

Also: you save like a millisecond not typing those two keystrokes in you. I don't care how busy you are. This is a message board not a chatroom, you have the time to spell-check and think twice about what you write.

My 2 cents also...internet is open to the world...I am french,english is my 3rd language (after french and spanish) so i am sure that i make mistakes sometimes.
Does that disqualify for any relations with "true english speaking people" ? I dont think so but they have to be tolerant toward people who make the effort to speak their language.
