This is a book about relationships from an author of failed marriages who also married another author who also gives relationship advice who has also been married many times.  Perhaps these are not the best people from whom to seek relationship advice.  The book has broad sweeping generalizations regarding men and women and their behavior.  I didn't find it interesting.

Katy,

I appreciate your thoughts, but it might be true that often the ones that have failed are in the best position to recognize why it failed.

How many has read it and if so have the issues and guidances noted in the book ever been applied in your dealings with the other side of the slash.

I haven't read it but would if someone gave me a copy. In general such books tend to be nonsense and are a quick buck for their authors and nothing more than that.

Paulz

You can probably find it in a used book store for a buck or less.

I am not Katy, but I am not incline to believe this is always the case.  Take for instance people who repeatedly fail sobriety tests or fail to give their partners orgasms.  I agree that recognizing why something fails is important.......I dont agree that it always takes a lot of experience in failure for someone to be an expert. Of course, experience hopefully makes one wiser. CP, I do realize that your statement was not generalized as you noted the word "often" and not "always" so this is not really directed to you as you were clear in your intent (at least to me). In general, your statement seems true to me.  It was just a thought that was prompted in me when reading your statement.

Thanks for yourthoughtsand I think the thrust of the books intent was to recognize how the other sex is wired rather than focusing on weaknesses like drinking.

I found the book to be very useful, it was the perfect solution to an annoying problem. It turned out that it was exactly the correct thickness to level the dinning table and stop it from wobbling. Now I find out I was actually supposed to read the thing? What is the world coming to? I suppose it is just a matter of time untill men are expected to communicate in full sentences.

I have never read the book but from my own observations with past relationships, I found that I would tend to overanalyze areas and that never sets too well with the "Mars thinking" men.  This probably had a lot to do with my struggle of being submissive.

I am now learning and trying to get to know myself better to understand the make up of the male mind.  I used to think men were complicated but now, I believe that is probably a reflection of myself.

Hey!  My pet may be a little bit different, and often times quirky, but there's no reason to call him an alien.  Besides, I doubt aliens have backsides that cute. ;)

Reading so many posts and the problems that are presented here, it caused me to reflect on that book of some 20 plus years ago and how closely or not closely it applies to we path walkers. Setting aside for the moment the issues of fem dominants and focusing without slighting those fine ladies; I ask this!
How many has read it and if so have the issues and guidances noted in the book ever been applied in your dealings with the other side of the slash. If so how?

Now i'm a woman of the world and of education. There's a string of letters after my name and i'm published in more than one.
I've a room full of therapy books amongst many...not to mention google book and scirus two of my favourite ways to search and research.
But something else: i'd rather have Adam and Eve than the Men are from Mars myth....simply because at least with Adam and Ever i understand it to be non-falsifiable.
The man=woman divide?  Oh god please: give ma a break from a gendered planet. Does anyone seriously believe that the genders really do speak different languages? The irony of Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus is in the very title itself; look really we are aliens ok!
I had an experience this morning. It was needle play. A beautiful moment when i had my eyes closed and because of family circumstances had to be, (there was no question about it) i had to be silent. That was ok: a long thick needle being pushed through my nipple first thing in the morning AND having to be silent because of UM's and friends stayiong is s pretty good turn on....invisible restraints like silence always are.
Niow: i had my eyes closed. Bliss. Pure sensation. What was amazing was that when i opened them there was Master watching the patterns the blood was making and and from His point of view it was abeautiful sight but not only that He was off on describing later how the needle felt as it popped my skin. Being a rather large neede this took a prolonged period of time.
So: same situation but experienced and looked at from extremes of either side of the dynamic. However we do have a common language in which we could communicate about the scene afterwards.
The MYTH is that we don;t have a common kanguse. The MYTH is that we cannot cross the divide. Te MYTH is that the world is an extension of a gendered reality. It's a pervasive myth. Ask anyone who has or who is crossing the divide and who is stuck intransition at the moment.
I suppose the world is a concretised reality of that myth for so many people: a sad world in which the
MAFM=WAFV casm is a real divide which cannot be bridged (unless they also buy the working manual to tell them what persomal commucation exercises they need to do to translate their experiences each into the others').
But simply put: it's great to know that my inner experience of extreme sensation became a moment of external sensation and visual beauty for my partner. Nothing was lost in translation and evrything gained.

I thought subs were from subway.

chia* (the pet)

Considering how "toasted" some of them seem, I think they're actually from Quiznos. [8|]

Oh, but you can get your sub toasted at Subway now too. [:)]
