Professional acronyms to tack behind my handle. One that would fit would be
B.U.M. (Bright-UnEmployed-Mother). Over they years I've worn many Hats
and consider myself a Jill of all trades ... possibly someday I'll know what
I wanna be when I grow up.

A bright-unemployed-Mother is an extremely noble position; you should never feel ashamed. I bet your an excellent mother.


I own a small grocery store as well as some residential and commercial income property.

My long term goal is to acquire/ build a medium sized winery/vinyard and sit on the porch during the dusk hour with the woman I love, my two black labs, enjoying a glass of the fruits of my labor. My family is also in the commercial property/ wine business.

Raising children is the HARDEST occupation a person could ever undertake. I have a daughter, and if I could have the option of staying home with her, I would take it in a heartbeat.

Since that doesn't "pay the rent" I own a large percent and run a mid-sized specialized commercial financial service and lending company.

What pays the bills is a truck driving long haul husband.

When the hellion is older, I plan to go back to school and get my journalism degree. I've worked everywhere from a bicycle plant to a bar, worked for a lawyer and worked as a waitress. I've been a manager in several places, and even pumped gas as a teen. I'm a published author well.

Status: offline 		Right now and for the next two years at least I am and will be a stay at home mom. Before that I managed an art gallery and oversaw the framing side of that business for thirteen years. When youngest wee one is in school full time I will be going back to school and hopefully get my degree in graphic design.

Michael, you will find that working in a regular HRB office is very challenging, as far as customer service goes---especially when you get to diplomatically explain the new rules for dependency. <weg>

Good to know there are other's out there. I've done so many varied professions over the year's. When my mother was alive she used to joke and ask me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I never knew...and still don't know.
It is time for a change in my life right now, yet because of my family situation I cannot change.

Although, I am considering getting my pilot's license and buying my own plane when I can. It very well may be my next endeavor.

Status: offline 		but not as rewarding as serving food to others. i prefer to be more active than to sit at a desk all day. i feel i make more people happy in a restaurant setting than in an office setting, and the rewards are much more tangible.

At one time in my life, getting my private pilot's license preserved my sanity (such as it is lol.) I absolutely love the rush...and the escape.

You recommend it then? I have a friend in Virginia who is an instructor...he has offered to come out here...teach me for free. Rent the plane until I get my license.
Not so sure I want to do that...but, I've stored it away for a possibility.

This goal is two-fold. When we can we want to move to Nebraska...we can retire at that time even if it were tomorrow. Although, I cannot fathom a time in my life I would'nt be active making some sort of money.
So, if I get my license and purchase a plane..and a house with my own small runway. I can be a crop duster. Then I won't have to worrry about work..nor getting my license in another state...etc..etc. I can virtually retire from the life I lead here into a new life.

The only thing I know for a fact I don't want to do is go back to school. I have plenty of year's of higher education in already. So, I'd be happy to opt for some sort of technical field. A year or two and I want to be done.

Status: offline 		To pay the bills, my husband works...lol. He designs software for the local hospital here in Kansas City. He also designs small programs and maintains software on the side on a contractual basis.

I am begining a career as a photographer. Mostly I do headshots and fashion photography for budding and semi-pro models, but within the next 3 months I hope to be working full time as an apprentice in a portrait studio so that I can save enough money to build my own studio.

Previous jobs are with the fast food 'industry', babysitter, secretary, and, my favorite, substitute teacher. I think if I didn't love photography so much, I'd most likely go back to college and eventually teach either high school or university level english or literature.

Ta-duh! That's what I do.

Status: offline 		My 2yr old son was with me all summer up until a couple of weeks ago. Now, it's back off to work I go which is a cakewalk in comparison (sometimes). Being able to return to my hotel room and just relax at the end of the day, as well being able to sleep without keeping one ear open shows me how easy I got it sometimes. Stay at home and single mothers get my respect and admiration. I have had a taste of that. It's 24/7, on call and can get quite lonley at times.

I am a Union IronWorker. Hence the tag HighRigger. My trade can me out of town for long periods of time. Oil fields in northern Alberta, iron mines in Minnesota, wherever. Next stop, Trump tower going up in Toronto. Ah yes.

Status: offline 		I would dearly love to get a pilot's license---I especially want to fly helicopters. But, I have a vision issue, and back when I was doing the Career Change, I decided that would make it that much tougher to get enough hours for a commercial license.

Michael, trust me, you have NO idea what customer service means until you have done peak at an HRB regular office. You will feel more than sufficiently challenged! And walking back and forth to the printer is sort of like exercise. Kind of.

Thanks Quivver. I grew up in Northern California, a mecca for growing fine grapes. For the longest time, I thought we couldn't be touched, but there are many regions in the heartland and the South East that have a whole culture of wineries/vineyards. If I ever get down in your neck of the woods I'll look ya up.
