I'm very curious about the responses to these questions:

Republicans - Who would you choose to be the best Democratic to run for President?

Democrats - Who would you choose to be the best Republican to run for President?

In other words which two people would make for a perfect election so that no matter who wins, it's good for the country?

Hell, I'll even throw in a free Independent for flavor - who gets the nod from either side?

From the Republican side, I would like to have seen Giulani get the nod, personally.  Ron Paul would also have gotten my vote.  That being said, McCain is not a bad choice from the GOP field.

Bill Richardson would be the Democrat I would have liked to see in the fall campaign.

Points to CL for completely misunderstanding the question....

As primarily a democrat, I'd probably pick someone centrist. Someone who had a little more under the hood than being a cheerleader, and an owner of a failed oil company, or being handed the TX governorship by his dad....

I don't think it would be Huckabee (too religious, and has a record of abuse of powers here in AR.)
Thompson: Too extreme. It would be like Regan on steroids...

Gulliani, maybe... pro choice, relatively centrist. Corrupt, but then all of the GOP is.

That's pretty tough... finding a "good" republican is like trying to find a cat without fur.

That one is easy, Celeste: Colin Powell, with perhaps Maine Senator Susan Collins as his veep.

Setting aside all the personality stuff (her ambition eating her soul and all that), Hillary might actually be competent in the job.  She has a good grasp of realpolitik.

Since I'm not registered as a Republican, I'll add that if Rudy Giuliani had won the nod, I'd be an active volunteer in his campaign.

While I don't know of any democrat and only 1 republican that would qualify it's probably easier just to list the main qualification.

1.Consistent Record of hating big government. A deep desire to eliminate 80+ percent of the bureaucracy.  That's my main want really. Destroy the power structure, and leave only that which actually serves a real beneficial purpose.

Give me that and I don't care if they are a Democrat, Republican, Green, Lib. Whatever.

It's an impossible dream, though because people rarely elect people to destroy what is enriching them(politicians, big corps). A revolution of epic bloody proportions would be the only way a person that might be qualified to sit in the presidents chair will ever get there.

IMO. Like one of the founding fathers said something like a society should go through a revolution every few generations. I think that is accurate, or else the power structures become to defined and inflexible.

ramble, ramble, ramble.

To answer your question.
A dead democrat would run on the Democratic side, because I don't agree with a single one of them on the most important issues to me. (Reduction of government)
And Ron Paul, would try to do the destroy the bueracracy thing on the republican side. But besides him, I don't know anyone else.

And as far as independents, well that would be me.

I'd try to.
Reduce the government size and scope.
Reduce the military.
Remove most foreign bases.
Eliminate the present corp tax, and income tax entirely.
Only tax would be on NEW goods sold.
Eliminate all domestic spying.
Put the remaining military to work on the borders and coast.
Remove us from the UN, and all protection pacts and agreements.
Foreign trade policy, would be called a copy machine.
No Government Foreign Aid to any country.
Ban on selling any and all Military equipment to foreign countries.
Elimination of all welfare programs except for the disabled, and children.
Restructure property taxes to be based on a percentage of the undeveloped land value. As in the inheritant value of the land created by it's location to society built value added things like off ramps, and road access. No tax on structures, of any kind. Easily just eliminated all the property tax evaluaters useless asses their, and created a more fair equitable system that encourage structure improvements.

Any country that attacked us, would be nuked out of existance. Official policy. No invasion, no nothing, we will fucking nuke you and every citizen you have to death. So, do not attack us. No one would by the way, with such a policy.10 day notice will be given to remove the present regime, if the country wishes to avoid such a fate, and replace it with one of our selection. This will be the only way to avoid complete destruction. MAD or it's variant Unilaterally assured destruction.

I could go on and on and on, and on, and on. So, I'll just go jerk off instead.

I'm neither of the above, but as an LWOP, I would have liked either Ron Paul or Mike Gravel  to do the unthinkable.

I agree on Colin Powell, would have to research Senator Collins first.

Since when did the GOP have a monopoly on corruption?  ALL politicians are corrupt.  Disgusting.

I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican.  I try not to think in terms of parties when I vote, and often vote for third party candidates. I can't think of any candidates - or even any national politicians who were considering a run - from either side that I could have gotten too excited about.

I'd like Tim Penny to run for president.  I mentioned him in a thread a while back where someone asked about Jesse Ventura running for president.  He's a former Democratic congressman currently affiliated with the Independence Party, but he isn't running for anything anymore.  He'd never do it, but if there was a way to force him to run for president, I'd be all for it.  Everyone I know who has ever dealt with him, whether they agreed with him or not, has the highest possible respect for him.  He ran for Governor here in 2002.  He would have won if Jesse Ventura hadn't been such a disappointment that people were afraid to vote third party.
