Thadius -> RE: It`s Joe Biden (8/23/2008 6:32:47 PM)

Look at the title of the thread.  If you wish to discuss McCain's flip flops  I will gladly do so in another thread.

Edited to add: Again, why do I need to defend McCain, I am not supporting him.  I also already provided my comments to your positions about him.  I am damn proud to be an American... Almost arrogantly so.

Edited to add: I think we should move this part of the discussion to another thread.  Instead of the hijacking of this one.

I copied it by hand because I couldn't cut-and-paste, but you can google it.

I don't see it as a hijack, all part of the same issue, but I am starting to tire of the discussion so I think I'll remove myself.

Ummmmmmmmm..................I never asked you to defend McCain.  You inserted yourself into a discussion I was having with another poster so you were challenged.  If you can't stand the heat.................................

You just did on the last page...

quote:

You keep wanting to make this into an argument over Obama instead of defending McCain.

But to be fair... hows this for his positions on abortion...

  • Pro-life and an advocate for the Rights of Man everywhere. (Feb 2008)
  • GovWatch: 1999: Don't force women to have illegal operations. (Feb 2008)

  • Concerned if women undergo illegal dangerous operations. (May 2007)
  • Supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. (May 2007)
  • Prosecute abortion doctors, not women who get them. (Jan 2000)
  • “Family Conference” if daughter wanted an abortion. (Jan 2000)
  • Abortion OK if raped; and no testing for rape. (Jan 2000)
  • Supports fetal tissue research; against over-intensity. (Jan 2000)
  • Overturn Roe v. Wade, but keep incest & rape exceptions. (Jan 2000)
  • Support adoption & foster care; work together on abortion. (Oct 1999)
  • Wants Roe vs. Wade made irrelevant, but would not repeal it. (Aug 1999)
  • Opposes partial-birth abortions & public financing. (Aug 1999)
  • Nominate justices based on experience, and values. (Jun 1999)
  • Restrict abortions; no partial-birth; no public funding. (Jul 1998)

  • I haven't found anything suggesting that he opposes abortion in the case of rape or incest... I even did a google search and found the article you are talking about it links to a lifenews.com article.... the quote there states clearly.

    quote:

    McCain appeared on the ABC News program "This Week" and host George Stephanopoulos asked McCain if he supported a "constitutional amendment banning abortion, with some exceptions for life and rape and incest."
    "Rape, incest and the life of the mother. Yes," McCain replied.

    Yes, it should have said originally never asked you to defend him until you became part of the discussion and were challenged.

    Read the entire link.

    By the way, as an "arrogantly proud American", who do you support if not McCain nor Obama?

    Thadius -> RE: It`s Joe Biden (8/23/2008 7:05:08 PM)

    Looking at Barr.

    I haven't made up my mind yet, except for the one person I won't be voting for.

    Oh, I'm enjoying.  Did you even read your own links?  In the second paragraph of the first link they point out his flip-flopping from his position in '99 to his present position.  You're just cracking me up brother.  I don't need to document my points, you'll do it for me.

    Thadius -> RE: It`s Joe Biden (8/23/2008 7:37:23 PM)

    Read up on why he stated that in an interview in '99,  and the quote that proceeded it
    "I'd love to see a point where it is irrelevant, and could be repealed because abortion is no longer necessary,"

    Where is the example of political expediancy?  Since you yourself suggested you would have voted for him in 2000 against Gore.... isn't that the point at which you are suggesting he flip flopped?  Why is this relevant now?

    bipolarber -> RE: It`s Joe Biden (8/23/2008 7:40:36 PM)

    (wringing my hands evilly) Yessss... one less vote for McCain... Bwa-ha-ha-ha....  LOL

    Agreed.  Bayh would have been an outstanding choice.  Obama/Bayh would have been a formidable ticket.  I don't see Biden bringing anything to the table to galvanize the undecideds.

    Biden has twice sought the Democratic nomination and has twice failed miserably.  In 1988 he was one of the "Seven Dwarves" of the Democratic field.  He was never really competitive in this last primary cycle.  If he's not compelling as a Presidential contender (having thrown his hat into the ring twice), how does he amplify Obama's candidacy?

    It is interesting to note that very likely one reason why Cheney augmented Bush's candidacy in 2000 was because it was clear to one and all that Cheney had no intention of ever running for President.  He was the first "true number two" in recent history.

    Obama couldn't pick Bayh, a Illinois/Indiana ticket would never fly on the east or west coast.

    If you can't see that I don't know what to tell you.  His quaifying remark doesn't change the fact he clearly stated he was opposed to appealing abortion rights and now supports the very same thing so he can curry the favor of the religious right.  The point at which he flip-flopped came when he launched his latest presidential bid and realized he could not win without kissing some serious conservative ass.  The moderate, independent John McCain of 2000 and even 2004 has given way to someone I find hard to believe is the same person.  This is a man who now changes his position on any and every issue based not on his beliefs but on how it will benefit his chances at the polls.

    Some people are so hopelessly shallow as to reasons to vote/not vote for someone, geopraphy would probably be a factor.

    McCain will wipe the floor with Obama in the debates. He will be the next President...

    Yeah. Last time I saw this guy speak he called Vladimir Putin the Prime Minister of Germany. He seems like a guy who will do super well in a debate setting.

    servantforuse -> RE: It`s Joe Biden (8/23/2008 9:24:15 PM)

    Barack called Joe Biden the next president of the United States in their big rally today. He's an idiot. I think he meant vice president..??

    Biden will say what needs to be said,loudly.I like that.

    Watch this and tell me what part isn`t absolutely true.

    `````````````````````````````
    I`m amused when Bush apologists always mention congress giving the president authority to invade,as if that clears the neo-cons of the gross mismanagement of the war,the bungling that got us stuck there(and the lies too),the dopes Rumsfeld,Wolfulwitz,Franks,etc,starting a huge civil war there,causing oil to rise,the thousands of needless deaths,millions of refugees,sending thousands of our brave GIs home w/ broken bodies and broken minds,the billions lost and on and on.
    Congress didn`t authorize the neo-cons to be complete fuck-ups and or to continue fucking up.
    Killer link. It is important to re-emphasize that Congress DID NOT authorize War. Congress authorized the use of force.  There is a huge difference. Now, I know that most of my right-wing brethren were not conscious during those days, but I was. The entire premise was the (non-existent) WMDs. COlin Powell was not sent to the UN to babble about how bad Saddam was. He had a whole PowerPoint (tm) presentation of falsified "intelligence" that claimed that there would soon be a mushroom cloud over NYC. Then they tried to justify THAT lie with the lie about "aluminum centrifuge tubes" and "yellow cake" from Africa. Then when, THAT was shown to be bullshit, the chant suddenly became "Saddam bad. Him kill many peoples. Him must go."
    I don't know what the excuses reason(s) are today; I lost my program, and the plot is so convoluted as to be unintelligable.
    Biden isn't going to give his opponent a moment's respite, I believe. He's an attack dog who is going to rub the electorate's collective face in the cesspool of lies the Repubs have been creating since Newt (another fuck who left his wife when she was in Hospital... is this some Republican rule or something? How despicable, but not as bad as McCain having his whores (one of whom he married) on the side after he came back from prison to his disabled wife. What a fucking dirtbag.
    I hope Biden is unleashed.
