Status: offline 		I people watch a lot. . .and one of the places that often rubs me the wrong way is a chat room. . .especially ones that are BDSM oriented. The journal entry I'm about to post is one that I wrote after watching how "dominants" act in a chat room. I don't think that most people got the irony or the sarcasm in it. (To their defense, maybe I'm not a very good communicator.) I did get *MANY* PMs and emails about how I "suck". . .but at the end of the day. . .it's all pixels. Was it THAT bad?? *snickers*

Discourse into Troll Understanding
Trolls. They are hated by all. No one seems to appreciate the inherent benefits that trolls offer to the cyber community. If you think about it, there are NO real-life equivalent to an online troll. The point of this discourse will be to foster understanding, good will, and appreciation to a segment of the cyber population that has been unfairly crucified.

First and foremost, if there were no trolls around. . .there would be no conversation in the chat rooms. Current statistics indicate that trolls directly account for 23% of chat room conversations. Indirectly (people complaining about trolls, chastising trolls, typing obscenities to trolls, recalling trolls of the past, trying to reform trolls, and copying and pasting what a troll said in PMs), they contribute to 41% of chat room conversations. With that kind of chat initiating power, they have become an integral and indispensable fixture in chat culture. Let's face it, we aren't all that interesting and if it weren't for these trolls. . .we'd have nothing to converse about.

Second, the resentment that people feel toward trolls is a manifestation of their own insecurities. The ability for someone to brazenly come into a chat room and declare "24/m/Ca/ with cam looking for fun," is something difficult to fathom for most. Who wouldn't want the endowment to be able to bear their naked soul to an assemblage of random and unknown people? This is a high-level skill that is lacking in most people. We are so concerned with outward appearances, that we are unable to expose our defenseless quintessence.

In conclusion, we all hate them because they are powerful. They make people engage in conversations they didn't want nor thought they would be in in the first place. They bring out the ugliest traits in people. With a few keystrokes, they send people into tirades and diatribes. They make people lose all perspective when it comes to common sense. They make you forget that there is an ignore feature. THEY are the movers and shakers of the chat world.

I would say there are. Ever go to the local discotheque? Sometimes even in the park or on the street. There probably aren't as many because the repercussions are less online because of initial anonymity.

That they do it in a chat room, fine. That they PM, not so fine. I just close the window. If they persist, I ignore. I find it silly to go off on tangent about how annoying they are. They don’t however make my pressure rise one bit.

Interesting theory. However, that is a pretty big all encompassing *we* there Jules ;) It takes a lot of energy to hate someone. I don't have that much energy to spend on a troll. I'd rather spend it doing something productive. I just don't care for trolls. Not much more dramatic then that I'm afraid ;)

Status: offline 		~confesses..i didnt get the total sarcasm either.. mostly because at least part of what yu say is true...

trolls as they have come to be called, are annoying, they do send some folks off into tirades etc.. and i'm the first to admit, that when i'm Pmsy..i spend more time with them, then i need to.. i'm never rude..but simply put, i like to debate..and they generally debate well.. and as expected i'm not talking bout the 24/built m/with cam folks.. (i simply dont respond to them, its their dime.. let them use it as they wish) but more of the overblown egos that come in, expecting one to bow down because they have a cap in their name.. and get offended (back to the name topic).. however, i can also say..that generally speaking, this in my experiences comes from a lack of knowledge or experience and lack of self esteem, some of those folks with time, and some extra nice nice, come around and become contributing members of a chat room..

Basically i guess for me, the chat room is for everyone, some folks need some help to see that maybe what they are looking for, would be best served in a different kind of chat.. ie send them to biancas for cyber, but bottom line is.. when i'm in chat..and i cant take someone else anymore... i leave... its my issue, not theirs.....

but..thats just me..

I think my whole "rant" was about

1) Isn't it funny how people get their panties in a wad over a few inane comments?
2) For those that profess to be about to control another's life (as Dominants) they can't even utilize the tools to control their online experience.

If you really look at it, the situation isn't funny. . .but what can one do but laugh sometimes?

I just have a twisted sense of humor. . .mea culpa!
But I do agree with you and Angelica. . .don't get me wrong.

Admitedly it has been a few months since I have been in a chat room and a few years since I was any kind of regular chatter, but your numbers seem off. Research shows that 68.21% of the chatter in any room is from people entering, leaving, and re-entering after they have been bounced.

Doesn't take a psychoanalyst to figure it out for me.
