~FR~

I grew up on all of the things the OP lists.  I'm an English major, so my days are spent with all the classics -- Byron, Chaucer, Milton, the Shelleys, Shakespeare, the Brontë sisters -- pick someone out of the literary cannon and I can discuss them intelligently.  I don't care for most wines although I have a soft spot for good mead.  I enjoy music ranging from hard rock to techno to classical.  However, my tastes are so varied and ecclectic that I hardly consider myself an "aristocrat" because of them.  Just someone with peculiar interests.

... perhaps its just because I'm stuck in Cali, I find so many people grimace and shy away from listening to opera or attending a fencing match.

If you were stuck in me, you sure as hell wouldn't be bored.

If you are relying on your profile to find people who enjoy some of the "finer" things in life, bud, it "ain't never gonna happen."  You lost me at the sentence at the end of the first paragraph that just suddenly stops midstream, as if you were Miss Greedy and someone dangled a sparkly thing in front of you.

You say nothing about the attributes of the person you are looking for, just what you want her to be (your pet at your feet).  And the blood-spray thing is just a tad creepy.  Not that you asked for an opinion or anything.

When I was in my early 20's, and I was organizing meetings and conventions around the US, one of the things I was proud of was that I was equally at ease at a greasy burger dive joint as I was at a five star restaurant (and knew which utensil went with each course).  <-- and that, I think, answers your question.

All of our unique tastes will limit who we are very compatible with.  Do you think it's easy to find someone who finds checking out boxofficemojo on a daily basis to be an exciting discussion worth topic?

sistermargaret -> RE: Modern Day Aristocrats (8/25/2008 6:27:02 PM)

i just read your profile and i'm not surprised that you  "seem to find myself in an ever-shrinking group in my prefered approach to this lifestyle."  Blood spray? Are you killing them off?

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Modern Day Aristocrats (8/25/2008 6:39:06 PM)

i don't think Daddy and i would call ourselves "modern day aristocrats" but we do share a love for classical music as well as tennis matches. He loves knowing i enjoy watching foreign/indie films to reading the classics. however that's merely one of many sides to me. i can switch from that to my rock star image when out reviewing/interviewing bands/music artists.

ReverendGypsy -> RE: Modern Day Aristocrats (8/25/2008 6:42:17 PM)

Well, as for the blood spray, I should mention that it was my blood, I never harm anyone lest they so willingly desire it.
As for the point about the profile thing, thank you for pointing it out, I'm not quite certain how I missed the fact that I just cut myself off so suddenly there - I'll make the adjustment.
As for the point about not stating more than my desires for how I want my partner to behave is one I'll take into consideration.  I'm not much for listing sought after physical features as I really vary in my tastes there and I certainly do not want to miss a chance to engage someone interesting simply because they don't fit a set of physical standards I list.

I hadn't expected such a contentious responce to an honest statement of curiousity as to whom was out there.  I feel people may have misinterpreted my intent originally, though I must admit, I am mildly surprised by those who feel it necessary to accuse me of imitation and falsehood - a rather unfortunate and curiously rude response.  Nevertheless, to those who would find my original statements offensive or arrogant - I apologize if I offended.  I do hope its understood that the post was not intended to state that my choice of approach to life is any better than any other, it was again, merely a minor inquiry as to if there were others who had such leanings.

IronBear -> RE: Modern Day Aristocrats (8/25/2008 6:45:22 PM)

There are Modern Day Aristocrats and there are Aristocrats living in the Modern Day. Sometimes, just sometimes the only difference is breeding and blood lines. There are Modern Day Aristocrats who are able to walk the walk and talk the talk for they genuinly hold dear those values which one would hope (sadly  not always true though) is the mark of an Aristocrat and there are hereditory Aristoicrats who are rude, arrogant and the bane of their families and other nobility. This is indeed an enjoyable light hearted thread.

Maybe.  Maybe not.

I very much doubt that anyone will match ALL my interests,  But I expect her to match SOME of them.  If she doesn't like Scrabble, that's cool.  But if she doesn't like live standup comedy, we won't mesh because my hobby is performing.

In any relationship, I consider it to be my obligation to teach the other person about my interests, and to learn about hers.  And vice versa.

Hello. I sip my tea with my pinky extended at the proper angle. Can I be an aristocat too? [;)]

ReverendGypsy -> RE: Modern Day Aristocrats (8/25/2008 7:58:53 PM)

of course you can, but only if it is truely the correct angle.  Forward and slightly down, approx. 195 degree angle.

Am I the only one who saw the subject of  "Modern Day Aristocrats" and thought of the old dirty joke?

Interesting that you assumed I was speaking of physical attributes... I was not.  I was speaking of likes and dislikes, behaviors, mannerisms, etc.  If you want someone who enjoys opera, the dimming of the lights, the hush of the audience, the first sounds of the strings from the orchestra as the curtain rises, the beat of your heart as you are transported to another place, another time... then say so.  Paint a picture.

Your current profile might as well belong to someone else, because your opening post here, and your profile have absolutely NOTHING in common.

Does anyone have a copy of the orignal post, he deleted it!
I am kinda confuse is the discussion about him looking for a partner to fit his exact interest such as opera, ballet and fine wine? Or him acting like a modern day aristocrat, when hes not?
p.s.wow never mind read his profile....
righto then carry on!

ReverendGypsy -> RE: Modern Day Aristocrats (8/25/2008 8:11:45 PM)

I know, and I apologize if I got snippy... its being a rough time for IRL... long bit of story there.  As for my profile, yeah it needs work, I REALLY do suck at writing those things.  I'll take your advice gladly and consider doing a reconstruct.

It crossed my mind as well, especially with the DNC starting today.  So what do you call your act?
