My family had season tickets to the opera.

Big Whoop. That and $4 will buy me a latte.

Sometimes the finer thing is shooting 9 ball in a dive bar. Sometimes it's dinner at Donovan's. Sometimes it's dirt track racing. Sometimes it's an 03 Bordeaux.

What's "finer" depends on the moment and mood, not the snobbery level that can be achieved.

Fencing.. the only recognized sport where the particpants have to pay but the spectators get in free. <grin>

But, after my first swashbuckler's tourney, there is no going back to olympic style for me.  "Rapier and Beer Mug Brawl" is my favorite.  You start seated across the table from your opponent with a liter mug full of water.  Parrying with the mug is expected and throwing water is allowed.  Schlager combat.. no more going back to foil.

Aristocrats go to events to be seen and network and schmooze.  Others go because they like it.  I enjoy a symphony but like watching the Phantom Regiment at the International Drum and Bugle Corps competition better.

Yeah, I have odd eclectic tastes.

Status: offline 		Actaully, i do understand how you feel, and your lament could be spoken by any one of us who can't find the right person. It has been the case so many times that i'd find someone with whom i could have a wonderfully stimulating conversation then find out he doesn't know which end of the flogger to hold. Then i've had ones who can send me to sub space in 10 min. flat and keep me there for hours but can't even say 'Good morning' in a clear, concise way. It IS hard to find all the right things in one person. Its even harder to paint a good picture of oneself in a 100 word profile. If the truth be known, i think what you are really asking doesn't have anything to with a particular status or taste, but you are asking the same question everyone else here is ... how do i do this right so i won't be alone anymore. That, my dear, is the mystery of the ages. i agree the profile needs a rewrite, with a much more positive, appealing slant.

Status: offline 		I don't think there's anything weird about trying to match yourself up with someone who shares some of your interests, afterall, recreation is a big part of some people's lives and they want to do those things with someone who appreciates the same stuff. 

I never bother to fill any of that stuff out on the CM profile, but I think opera and fine dining are among the interests listed.  Also included in there are things like flea marketing, beach combing, amusment parks etc.  So I would imagine a lot of people use recreational interests as a base starting point when looking for a mate.

The only suggestion I would make is for you to consider how much fun it might be to take a girl who enjoys the simple pleasures and turn her on to something more sophisticated.  She might end up sharing some of your interests and enjoying the way you enlighten her, and on the other hand you  might end up having fun picking through bargains at a flea market, or walking on the beach with a cheap beer and good company.  Look for someone who shares fundamental values and things like that, but stay open minded about the possibilities of expanding each other's horizons.  If you rule out otherwise good people based on the fact that they didn't have the same exposures in life as you have had, you're really going to narrow your field, not to mention, possibly miss out on a really good relationship.

i am nor Dom nor fsub, but i found this post directly from collarme.com email as i was replaying to a Domme ocean away, i believe the topic was "was Sartre submissive?" Snobism? no. You just know what you like and you seem to trully enjoy that. I dont know much about MDom/fsub part, but there are many Dommes out there who enjoy fine things in life. I am sorry, it is of grave importance to pick a right dry vine with lamb. It is not snobism it is called enjoying the life. I dont care about the horse power of my car engine, but how soft is the leather of the seats. Strange i know.

So there is hope. I remember one scene where domme left me notes, from J.Joice to S.Becket and thankfully i realized where the notes were leading me.

elite and high culture being described as finer things always makes my blood boil, mostly because why do we have to make a value judgement, to me i love art from turner to durmus i love some types of classical music but currently im listening to the man who cant be moved, I like some art house films I also really like neighbours, Ive read jane eyre and i read heat, downstairs i have two bottles of really nice bubbly along with some lambrini, hope that makes a good point, there is no need to distinguish between them with value laden terms like the finer things.

Secondly your op sounds so patronising (as GT pointed out) also it seems like a pretty piss poor way of saying you have money and dont mind buying interest (not that there is anything wrong with that but call a spade a spade) and by saying that all these cultural experiances are open to people of all exonomic backgrounds is quite frankly a pile of shit and shows a heck of a lack of understanding of other people or just plain old ignorance.

Status: offline 		It's funny that some seem to think that if you enjoy some of the less finer things in life at times that you are uncouth.  I stopped off at a bar last night for dinner and had a delicious dozen garlic steamers along with a Jack and Coke.  I enjoyed it just as much as I would a $200 bottle of Opus One.
I can enjoy The Metropoitan Museuem of Art just as much as the Crayola Factory.
A book of poetry as much as Harry Potter.
Variety is the spice of life.  To me, both extremes....those who only experience either the best or the worst, are close minded and boring.

Status: offline 		I know you were kinda joking, seababy, but the dividing line here isn't between peasants and not.  There are CM message board posters -- and people with active profiles on the other side -- who are wealthy, and yet manage to avoid being pompous snobs.

The dividing line, in my experience, is whether you made your money yourself, or inherited it.  People who actually know it is important to work, and to demonstrate responsibility to others, tend not to be hi-falutin, even if they can afford to attend any concert in the world.  On the other hand, people who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth often show it, by "buying titles" (SirLordOfAllBDSM), or constructing a pseudo-Old Guard house where they can live as undisputed king until their money runs out -- and the needs of the rest of the world be damned.
