My thoughts to those where it does affect you.

Rita survivor, you know that one that was the same strength as Katrina that came just after? Texas evacuations for Rita were disasterous to say the least and more left due to Katrina, plus those already in the area being displaced from Katrina.

Gulf hurricanes are about predictable as the mood of a woman on PMS, you just dont know which way its going to turn.

Luckily I far and away from being near the gulf.  I would not want to come back to the aftermath again. Rita utterly humbled me going back home a month later when power was restored and forever etched in my mind. A pic, video, ect doesnt come close to what it really and truly looks like. I did learn that.

Tighten  and shore up the home and dont take that chance and get out of its way.

Heck even its name sounds like it gonna be trouble.

Best of luck to anyone in those projected path models.  For me thats stress enough.

Who is naming these things? Fay? Gustav?

Shouldn't they be more like Hannibal or Marge?

All you folks on the Gulf Coast and Florida please stay safe and let us know how you are doing when Gustav comes through.

And please, consider moving north. A few tornadoes and the occasional 500 year flood, piece of cake!

I think it's always a crap shoot where you live.  I have lived in places with hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, foods, planes crashing into buildings.  (You know if we threw in some locusts and boiling seas it would almost sound biblical.)  Popeye doesn't even want me to go near Myrtle Beach!

I've just decided not to worry about it. I live on a hill and can see for miles, smack in tornado alley. There are no alarm sirens that go off out there. I rarely watch the weather or local television stations. Never listen to local radio stations.

So, I figure if a tornado hit my house in the middle of the night some day........I either get the ride of my life or at the very least, avoid dying of old age. When they figure out a way to avoid that last bit, I will worry more about saving my ass for all of eternity.

Heh...I was back in the Mid West one year during the winter holly days when an alarm started blaring all across town.  Mum was completely calm about the whole situation while the incoming toronado warning started flashing on the TV.  On the other hand, I was confused, thinking the alarm signaled an escaped convict from a nearby prison!

Yep... Gustav to hit sometime this coming weekend or thereabouts... Hanna to be sitting in the central Bahamas deciding where to go next by this time next week... a new area of interest bubbled up off the northern coast of the Yucatan peninsula today... and there's another wave that came off the coast of Africa a day or so ago.

Batter up!

"Hmm ..... should I go to the Bahamas?  No thats just so overdone.  Maybe Mexico.  I hear its great there this time of year.  And what should I wear?  How about half of Cuba?"    Hannah

I have lived through a few hurricanes during my life.  but I never thought of one waiting to decide where to go.  Thats the picture you put in my brain Sappoti.  Its like my exgirlfriend getting ready to go to the mall.  I guess my wallet when she was done looked like it had been hit by a hurricane too.

If you can't look impending doom square in the eye and have a little fun with it, what's the point? :-)

Actually, the bit about the indecision wasn't mine. I lifted it from our local weather talking heads. I guess that was his cutesy cleverish way of saying that Hanna was forecast to pretty much stall over the central Bahamas, much like Fay did Florida.

Sorry about the imagery. Been there with the indecisiveness. I think paying for repairs is much easier to stomach than the ol' "what'll I buy today" shopping trips.

:-)
