At the present time, I would not qualify to be the President of the US because I am a woman.  This is changing as well

Are you having a surgery you've neglected to tell us about?  [image]http://www.collarchat.com/upfiles/smiley/rofl.gif[/image]  Sorry, I just couldn't resist.  The way it was written, that thought just popped into my head.  Boo, hiss....I know[:-].............luci

slaveluci -> RE: What would YOU do if elected President ? (8/28/2008 8:39:43 PM)

Now for my serious answer..........

1.  Abolish the death penalty.
2.  Remove all barriers to homosexual couples marrying and/or adopting children
3.  End the drug war as we currently know it
4.  End the sickening corporate welfare system

and a few other things.......

I will have a magic wand, right?[8D].................luci

With ideas like these, I would vote for you :-) . The death penalty must go.

Step 1 Executive policy saying any bill that crosses my desk without being a clean bill (all things on the bill are related to the purpose of the bill directly) will be vetoed, over ride it if you can get the support but that way the public will know who to blame.

Step 2 I can't force congress to not write omnibus bills but I can again veto them without bothering to examine them. because you can be sure not a single Congress person has likely read the entire bill either. Congress will have to actually get to work and write bills that are stand alone.

Step 3 again I'm gonna be called the VETO president cause I'm gonna wield that club like a caveman. Bills not funded at current levels of government revenue VETOed.

Step 4 Veto earmarks on any bill.

It's likely my most damning criticism of Bush's presidency that he acted like he was scared to veto anything until he was a lame duck.

Congress would have to band together tightly to get anything passed a veto and maybe that would force them to actually do their jobs.

That is a ticket that I would support and be proud to be a part of.  This pretty much sums up what my choices would be.

I would also have all existing executive orders scoured and evaluated to see if the met with what is in the best interest of the country, those that don't will meet the shredder.

Can you explain this?  I am sure Hillary Clinton would be interested as well.

The War on Drugs is over by Executive Order.  Whatever consumers want will be licensed, regulated, and taxed (prices aren't dropping).  Employers will be free to set whatever policies seem appropriate, and public consumption/intoxication would be subject to the same sorts of regulations we have with alcohol.  Non-violent offenders may apply for (liberally granted) pardons.  If they had a gun in the car when they were busted, sucks to be them - full sentence to be served.  And it will be a really good source of revenue

Our social safety net is in for a drastic overhaul.  Welfare fraud will be subject to federal prosecution, with mandatory minimums (we can't put all those prison guards out of work, can we?)  Access to job training will be strictly competitive, but mandatory after a certain period of time (I'll be wanting a big variety of opinions on my advisory panel about that.  Volunteers?)  At the same time, we'll be streamlining the system, and drastically increasing faith-based service providers, across any faith that wants to try to help.

The best way to deal with illegal immigration is to help create some damn jobs in Mexico.  If not with the current corrupt system down there, then with a new one.  Should that mean giving a "Go" order to Forts Hood and Sill, I'm ok with that.

We are in Iraq, and have a small, safe path of extraction.  The Islamic Crazy People cannot be allowed to call this a victory.  Yeah.  I know.  I get nervous when family is over there, too.  Afghanistan is another story.  Our role will be strictly logistics, training, and the most hellacious air the world has ever seen.  I'm thinking lots of armed UAV's, and an occasional carpet bombing.

We are drilling here, and now.  We are also funding a lot of grants, and research.  The first completely standardized, ready for mass production, small nuclear power plant will be on-line before the end of my first term.  Gas prices will go, and stay, above $5 a gallon.  I suggest individuals finding ways to use less.  No interest loans for gas stations to upgrade to altfuel capabilities.

The next crisis will be water, and we'll be getting out in front of that one now.  These will largely be unfunded mandates, so, My Fellow Americans, expect to pay more every time you flush.

Congress will follow along.  If my crazy ass actually got elected, they'd be terrified of the True Believers who made it happen, and I'd personally target a couple of major players to be defeated at the first mid-term, just to make the lesson sting a bit.

Trust me, if you're a woman, you "get" it.

kittinSol -> RE: What would YOU do if elected President ? (8/28/2008 9:02:09 PM)

I certainly did get it.

1. I'd forego all the "special powers" afforded to President Bush, and roll them all back to pre 9/11 levels. Thus, restoring the US Constitution.

2. I would kill any ammendments designed to take rights away from people based on orientation.

3. Begin a crash program in developing nuclear fusion, with a goal of having the first fusion power plant operating within ten years. I'd also push solar, wind, geothermal, tidal and biofuel research, coupled with tech to bring the electric car into a viable reality.

4. Work with the Supreme Court to establish precedent that would help insure the individual Americans' rights to privacy, and freedom of sexual expression.

5. I would immediately ask Midori to be my chief of staff.

6. I would also send out an envoy composed of Celticlord, Thadius and Al... to Antarctica, for the duration of my 8 years in office.

So individual rights would only be extended to those you agree with?[8|]

I found it much more significant that while he didn't consider stopping  the war worth a mention, he would cut funding to the troops and use them as to enrich private energy corporations, while guaranteeing another Great Depression with the same sort of protectionist tariffs which precipitated that.

Significant, but not surprising....

Thadius -> RE: What would YOU do if elected President ? (8/28/2008 9:42:18 PM)

At least I would have good company and some intelligent conversations in store for me.  I didn't want to comment on his dreams as he has a right to those, it was just the thought of forcing me out of the country, that kind of rang of what is the word?[;)]

jlf1961 -> RE: What would YOU do if elected President ? (8/28/2008 10:26:44 PM)

My Plan would be consist of:

1) Re instate state's rights
2) Stop all subsidy funding for any industry that IS not using the funding for what it was intended, example:  Railroad infrastructure funding, at present, 30 billion dollars a year is earmarked to create a rail infrastructure capable of handling high speed rail service, instead, the rail roads have cut shipping rates to levels that actually would not be profitable without the subsidy.

3) Repeal any law that has any impact on the constitution, the bill of rights, OR, basic human rights as recognized by the International Community.

4) Keep the Death penalty, however limit its application to only those cases where the evidence is a slam dunk, i.e DNA, Video Record, Eye witnesses (that all agree,) and enough physical evidence that completely destroys any chance of a reasonable doubt.

If all of the above listed conditions are not met, the death penalty cannot be applied.

5) Institute a program of National Health Coverage that is partially funded by payroll deduction, employer contribution AND government funding.

6) Enact a fee cap on all medical procedures.

7) Institute a step rate tax plan, beginning at 10% for incomes below 50,000, and increasing by 5% for every additional $100,000.00 thousand dollars annual income with a cap of 35%

8) Re institute the draft for all citizens for 2 years of military or public service either after high school or college.

9) Reinstate the arts into public education, and increase the amount of skilled training in High School.

10) Turn the Space Program into a joint venture involving private businesses, universities and colleges, as well as the government, thus removing the government from being the only one footing the bill for research.

11) Begin a phased change over from non renewable energy to renewable energy systems.

12) Start funding Nuclear Fusion Power Research... AGAIN.

13) Remove all barriers against citizens that are based on race, religion, sexual preference, sexual identification, or gender.

14) Institute a Congressional Accountability program, weekly reports to each district on what Representatives and Senators have done in the previous week.

15) Phase out foreign aid.

16) Re-introduce federally funded academic scholarships, as well as create Federal Universities and Colleges allowing for state provided higher education WITH the provision that upon completion, the individual will work in public service for no less than five years.
