The idea of him not going is being floated, with Gustav being the excuse.

And there`s

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/08/13/1263992.aspx

And,.....

"I don't think there are a lot of people who want to see him at the convention," said Mr. Rohrabacher, who is especially irked with Mr. Bush for his stance on immigration. He said the president "should stay home from the Republican convention, and everybody would be better off."

This will be interesting...

Let's face it, Bush would do nothing but a disservice to his party. It's not in their candidate's interest to have him talk about anything at all (save for a short "I'm with John" type speech). If he doesn't speak, we all know damn well it won't be anything to do with Gustav :-) .

Why do the Democrats insist on running against George W. Bush?

Obama's words say it the best.

Why do you care so much about the Democrats and what they do? You talk of little else these days  . Care to inform us of what's going on on the other side? It's been remarkably quiet over there.

Seriously, they're running against George Bush's disaster, and Bush's successor: considering the appalling legacy the Republican party has left behind, I think the Democrats are showing remarkable restraint in not demolishing the man responsible for the mess we're in . I suppose he's been quite apt at demolishing himself  . It's in the spirit of good fun.

Well,McBush,McSame,McLame and all....

Better question:

Why is the GOP running away from the leader of their own party?

Things must be pretty stinky.

I wonder if this scenario has ever happened before in American politics?  The out-going President not attending the convention of his own party seems very irregular to me.

Just sayin..

With President Bush's approval rating in the toilet, and by having
one of the lowest approval rating's in history, any smart person
would distance themselves from him.

If McCain does not distance himself from President Bush, he can hang it up.

Exactly, Mia: and you can bet Bush would happily participate. But he's become a leper. Nobody wants to have him, not even his own party. Poor BabyB...

Bonjour kitten!  We agree on some things!
How sad and pathetic that a sitting President can't participate at

his own party's convention!
This is the first time in recent American history.
Bill Clinton a past President, got a standing ovation.

Because 4 months and a wakeup and he's no longer the leader, so it's time to shift focus to the next person to assume the mantle of leadership?

Because there's no point in pretending Bush doesn't have horrible approval ratings, bested (worsted?) only by the Congress under the Democratic demogoguery of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid?

Because, as I stated, if Obama's strategy is to link Bush to McCain, the ideal counter to that is to separate Bush from McCain.  There is no better place to do that than at the convention.

Yes, this is all terribly embarrassing for Bush and his joyful bunch of gay (as in happy, of course) companions. Something tells me that the Republican conference will be a sinister affair with little cause for elation for the party members and supporters.

But that's just me, and we shall see.

He will be the party leader until the next election,if McCain loses. As Clinton was the dem party leader, when Gore had his election stolen.

And again,McCain policy wise,is the same as Bush or worse.

That`s inarguable.

The notion that republicans are smart,by not having him there is kinda laughable. That`s like marrying a drunk and then claiming brilliance for leaving him home.

I mean come on.

Do you believe your own words?

Because Obama is nothing without his teleprompter.

The debates is going to expose him for the fraud he really is....unless of course the media rigs it so he knows all the questions in advance.

Even if he knows the questions in advance that may not help him, I assume he knows his speeches up front, right?

I wonder what the reaction would be if Bush was at the convention and Gustav turns out to be a nasty storm.

That's a customary courtesy, Kitten.  Very likely the Dems will be low-key during the Republican convention (though the protesters might get a little more coverage).

For the life of me, I can't figure out what these two posts have to do with the OP.

OP: We are at the time of year, here in MN, where the bugs are starting to clear out, the pond scum is going to be hidden under snow very soon and if Bush doesn't grace our fair state with his presence, I'm sure we'll all be very ... um, blue.
