The spins about Palin pooping Godiva, peeing Dom Perignon and parting the seas was typical for the 1st day.But after a little digging and reading, she don`t look so good.

And this somewhat odd pick also says a lot about the senior Senator.

Can`t say there`s anything I disagree with here.

The article is a pretty good summation. On looking closer, I think Palin will end up being a "coyote" pick. Right now, she looks good, the GOP thinks she'll pull in huge numbers of female voters simply because Palin is female. They're basically drunk on the idea of pulling away the PUMAs from the Dem side... But in the morning, they're going to wake up with their arm trapped under her. America will start hearing her extreimist conservative views, and they'll be tempted to start chewing on their arm.

Give it two weeks. Then we'll know better.

It's kinda weird how both McCain and Obama are channeling each other for their VP picks.

Remember when Bush nominated Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court?

Frankly, though, I'm not with the CAMP who values experience above all else. To me, youth, energy, new ideas, and promise have much going for it. I'm interested to see what Palin's got.

"Coyote Ugly"

When you meet a chick(or guy) who looks really hot while you`re drunk and horny, only to wake up in the morning(with your arm caught under their sleeping body) to find someone less attractive than you 1st thought.

In fact, she`s(he`s) so fugly ,you`d prefer to chew it off your own arm rather than awaken them.

Like Coyotes, who sometimes chew off their own limb to free themselves after getting caught in a steel leg-hold trap.

Good call,and funny.

Sarah Palins 'conservative view' will only help the GOP not hurt it. Where conservatives might have sat out this election before, they will be voting big time now..

While the 1st part is debatable, the second part is true.

We shall see.

bipolarber -> RE: Six things the Palin pick says about McCain (8/30/2008 10:45:59 AM)

After all, we still have 65 to 66 days left before the election... We still have October and all it's nasty surprises to get through... puls the VP debates, and three or four presidential ones...

It's still a little early to be claiming that one decision will put either McCain, or Obama over the top.

Obama could screw up.
Palin could open her mouth and say something stupid.
Someone could take a shot at one of them.
There could be another attack.
McCain could have a coranary. (Or his cancer could come back... again.)
Cheany could shoot someone in the face.
Bush could speak at the RNC.

Anything could still (and probably will) happen in this "Reality TV" inspired election.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Six things the Palin pick says about McCain (8/30/2008 11:11:24 AM)

This is the type of pick that, more importantly, leads to the conservative base becoming more enthusiastic. Many social conservatives were angry at McCain and there was some concern if those voters would come out and vote at all. People who claimed they were never going to vote McCain now appear ready to do so.

So whether it pulls in women from the other side or not we can debate all day, but without polling data it is just speculation. But the pick at least seems to be pulling together the conservatives and giving the party an injection of excitement which is going to increase the turnout for McCain.

I was looking at one poll done a few weeks ago that showed McCain already had a pretty good lead among married, white women. Obama leads with single white women. So the female vote is split a few different ways and now it may get more complicated. Not only is it split based on marital status but single women and married women seem to have some very different ranking of issues that are most important to them. It will be interesting to see what strategy the campaigns take and if it works.

McCain made a shrewd pick simply because Palin's record undercuts all of Obama's convention themes.  Every criticism Obama wants to lay on McCain boomerangs in the comparison of Palin to Biden.  Every attack Obama hopes to lay on Palin will boomerang on himself.

McCain's gamble here is a simple one.  He aims to deny Obama the chance to define himself.  He aims to keep Obama high in the stratosphere of rhetoric and nuance, away from the practical details of how he will lead this nation.  He aims to keep Obama a huge question mark in the voters' minds right up until Election day.

In uncertain times, will people vote for the known or the unknown?  History suggests going for the known.  At this point in the campaign, the "known" is McCain.

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns - the ones we don't know we don't know.

McCain is known... his new running mate is not. The most common response I was hearing on Friday was: "Who the fuck is Sara Palin?!" The answers are in the pipeline, and every single detail of her life is going to be researched, split open and laid bare. Thugs should hope that McCain's people did a good job on the vetting. Otherwise, this is going to blow up in his face really badly.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Six things the Palin pick says about McCain (8/30/2008 12:49:25 PM)

Actually Rasmussen just came out with a poll...
53% of voters say they have a favorable opinion of Palin
48% of voters say they have a favorable opinion of Biden

By the way, Gallup poll shows Obama still has not cracked the 50% mark even after his historic speech. 58% of voters say they had positive feelings about the speech but only 35% thought the speech was "excellent." But maybe a stat Democrats should worry about is one by Rasmussen which said only 74% of Democrats feel the Democratic Convention has unified the party. So perhaps those Clinton voters are still not committed.

Polls are polls.....take them for what its worth. But so far they show it is going to be an interesting 60 days.

Sure voters are 58% favorable for Palin right now. Are you sure it isn't higher? After all, the lower 48 states have only known of her existence for the last 24 hours... The "Come on down!" euphoria hasn't even faded yet.

Yet, so far we've learned that she supported the "bridge to nowhere" before she flip-flopped on it.

There may be an incident where she used her power as Governor, to get an ex-brother-in-law fired... (sort of a mini Plamegate)

And we know she doesn't have any international experience at all, and here we are, a country in two wars, with maimed standing with most of the civilized world, and her prospective boss is working on adding another war to the stack.

So ends the FIRST day...

Most folks are just getting to know who she is, therefore I would expect those numbers to go up.

International experience?  Canada, Russia, and Japan are not considered international?  What experience does the top of the Dem ticket have again?  I mean besides running for president.[8|]

I wonder if the bipolarbers of this world will ever tire of whacking themselves in the head with that same boomerang

No one in this race is clean.....all 4 of them have problems.

dcnovice -> RE: Six things the Palin pick says about McCain (8/30/2008 1:32:45 PM)

Agreed, cd.

Of course, that's probably true for any four people on Earth.
