As a few people have stated on this thread, big deal. I have no idea whether or not that guy represents his constituency well or not. I have no idea if he is effective as a leader or a politician. He may be great or he may be terrible, I really have no idea. I certainly find his comments to mean nothing to me at all. We (family, bratgirl, and 7 friends) were sitting in a stupid vault, with limbs and trees breaking in half and crap blowing so hard against the building we could feel it through steel and concrete. Two of my neighbors on my block completely lost their house in this storm. Guess what, every single one of us has made a joke about the hurricane over the past few days. Do you think we were crass or didn't care that our house might or might not be there when we went back the next day? Of course we care. A little humor is not such a bad thing every now and then. Some of us have darker humor than others but who cares?
As far as why this is even an item of discussion, I think it's a sad thing. I think it's sad that people are walking around with recorders and cell phones trying to catch a joke or some comment from someone so we can make it the end all commentary of that person's life, character and intent. I think it's sad that we spend so much time talking about this sort of crap in the news, coffee shops, bars and internet forums. I do not want to hear this type of news about anyone from any side of the political line. It's not relavant to anything. It makes it seem as though the National Enquirer style "news" is all that maters anymore.
I don't care what type of sense of humor some Democrat has. I don't care if some Rebublican is secretely gay. I don't care if they had an affair 12 years ago or practice "deviant" sex in their bedroom. I do care what they stand far. I care what they hope to accomplish. I do care if it sounds like they have a plan for accomplishing those things. I even care if they are corrupt (in that they will not have the American People's best interest at heart). All I want to know is all I can find out so that I can make a choice as to who I think will do the best job.
