Don Fowler, former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, was on a flight with South Carolina Democrat Congressman John Spratt and Fowler started laughing when he found out the hurricane was going to hit New Orleans and wants it to hit on Monday so that it disrupts the RNC Convention.

He says, "That just demonstrates that God is on our side." Then he says, "Everything's cool."

The conversation was caught on tape....

Cyberdude!!! I was just about to post that, saw the vid on hotair.com.

That really pisses me off as I have family there who, one had lost his home while the others had some severe damage from Katrina, from the west bank to Thibodaux where my family resides.

Something as serious as this is not something to joke about, they aren't even finished rebuilding and if it moves more westerly the northeast side of Gustav could cause more damage then if they were hit head on.

Not a joking matter at all.  I have friends who's families lost everything in Katrina. I remember driving through Louisiana and Mississippi nearly a year afterward; you could STILL see the damage that had been done.

Thankfully, at this point, Gustav is not shaping up to be another Katrina, and hopefully it will stay that way, but anyone who can laugh at a hurricane needs to experience one first hand.

Some things are just not funny.

I couldn't hear a lot of the video, but to think of this as a political or god powered storm to bring power to one side or the other is offensive.  We are still one nation and those are our people and it is our land.  It will be American lives at risk and tax dollars that will be needed, once again... used well or not... to deal with the situation.  What an idiot!

As of last year Gulfport, Ms wasn't even finished rebuilding and that was 2 yrs after. I was visting my cousins last August and saw some of the areas hard hit awaiting to be rebuilt. Mocking this is mocking the people who lived through Katrina.

       It's an accurate assessment.  If Gustav hits New Orleans with even a glancing blow, it will highlight one of the big 'failures' of the current administration, as well as being a competing news event.

       Fowler must have gotten spoiled by riding in private jets or something.  Pretty stupid remark to make on public transportation.

...clearly the man is an idiot. And not just from the political expediency point of view. However, to extrapolate from this a label to hang on all Democrats is as idiotic as extrapolating from some of GWB's utterances that all Republicans are horribly ill-informed.
When this guy runs for office next i hope the press beat him around the face and neck with this. However to beat some other Democrat with this stick is wrong.

Does not surprise me a bit.  You have to understand their motivation.  They have been out of the white house for 8 years and want back in.  With any luck and God willing they will be out for another 8!

Hopefully you will follow your own advice next time a Republican says something dumb. As for the press, I doubt the mainstream press will say much about this at all.

I don't have the current flash player and javascript is turned off and I dont have live tv here, other than fox (awaiting digital in February) and I wouldnt watch that shit if it was the end of the world or both queen latifah and sheena easton offered to double up and blow me.....(and you are aware that goes to the core of me)


So, did it say who tape it?  Was it Spratt? Or was it someone in the seat behind them or what?
