Do you use to make mosquito bites stop itching? The place I recently moved to has lots of grass and, while still in a typical suburban area, is not as urban and Beaver Cleaver as one might expect. It's neat, 'cause you can see all the stars and hear the froggies and crickets and all that... But it's also been raining a ton... I literally have 30 to 40 bites all up and down my legs... I suppose those little bastards are following me inside as well, as I woke up with 4 or 5 on my belly and side the other day.

I'm about to scratch all of my freakin' skin off... Any ideas?

I use Burt's Bees Hand Salve for just about any skin ailment.  Makes bite itching go away fast.  Good luck!!!

I've found that works well on ant bites (especially if you spray it on immediately after you get bitten), but doesn't seem to have any effect on flying insect bites.  It's my understanding that the irritant they carry is acid-based.

Likewise, it really seems to me that bites from different bugs respond to different treatments; we have four different kinds of itch stuff on hand (I swear we have bugs here that are only supposed to live in the Amazon rain forests, it's unreal).

Witch Hazel (sometimes spelled Wych) (Hamamelis mollis) extract (available as a liquid or in creams) is useful, and I've yet to find anything to beat Aloe vera (sometimes called medicinal aloe) cream or gel.  Witch hazel can be slightly drying but it's excellent at controlling infection*, Aloe vera is much more emollient and moisturising and also has very good antiseptic* properties.

*i.e. can prevent wounds becoming infected and can control minor infections.  I'm not advocating their use instead of a recognised antiseptic, and the usual warnings about using common sense still apply.

By the way, there's very strong anecdotal evidence to suggest that people who eat a lot of marmite (British yeast extract spread similar to vegemite but much stronger flavoured and tastier) are less attractive to midges, mosquitos and other biting insects.

Hope this is helpful

Try wiping malt vinegar on exposed areas of your skin. It works, but not sure how. Might make their eyes water.

Avon's Skin So Soft is supposed to be a good repellent.  For the future.

This is not a direct answer or viable suggestion to ease itching...but I was wondering how many service men received Gamma Globulin injections in preparation for overseas duty?

Before the injections I used to swell and itch like crazy with every bite...after the injection and to this date...40 years...I have very little swelling if any and almost no itching from mosquito bites. Has anyone else noticed this benefit?

...wow, left field question.......but i'm never one to leave an earnest inquiry hanging.

A swift google yielded this.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimono

.....which suggests it doesn't derive from the Greek, rather it is Japanese for " thing to wear (ki wearing and mono thing)"..........

However, if you know something i don't (and that's a subset of humanity that is truly universal) please let me know......

As a very popular dining place for mossies i suggest tiger balm. It stinks to high heaven but soothes the bites mighty fine.

Actually, this is a quote from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" *laughs* (As is the topic of windex... which actually -does- work.... and so does vinegar.

The reason Windex works is beacuse of the Amonia... try using a paper towel, or a rag dipped in household amonia... it'll sting when it goes on, but the itch relief is almost instant!
