Nothing fills me up quite as much as seeing the goals I've set for myself come to fruition. Even if it's a goal that takes a while, as I see it happening it makes me feel good. After it's accomplised I'm like "holy shit, I can't believe I made that happen".

To the original post (and then I will read everyone else's replies): twitch This is something I've always struggled with... to get philosophical for a little bit... What is happiness? Is it feeling content after doing something that you're proud of; feeling satiated after rigorous work? Or is it an undefinable feeling, indicated only by the absence of sadness/anger/fear/whatever? The idea of happiness to each person is different. 'Happy' is what I consider 'the H word' when I'm deep into silent contemplation. I don't know what happiness is, to be honest, and I'm afraid to ever find out. And yet, there's also a part of me that knows what it is to be happy, and so I can rate myself by degrees of happiness. "Oh, the happiest day I've ever had was..." "I'm happy, but still kinda sad..." So in absence of 'true' happiness, whatever that is, I throw myself into another goal entirely... being entertained. There's a heavy set of differences between being 'happy' and being 'entertained' (one of the most obvious is that the latter requires no emotional involvement). It's a stranger place of mind to be, trying to 'not care' about your emotions so much, and just let them exists while you continually search for something to dedicate attention to. For me, though, it's very therapeutic. But to answer the question... what makes me 'happiest' (since I truly haven't ever experienced the "gut-level-life-is-wonderful happy" that you describe) is having a partner, and watching him sleep right while I'm on the verge of doing so myself. It's one of the few times that there's very little wrong in the world (well, rather, that I notice).

Animals make me truly happy. There is nothing that can hold my smile in if I drive down Hwy 99 and spot a flock of Heron's or Egrets dotting the rice fields. And if I can find a gray one I am smiling for days! Or spotting a squirrel with full cheeks and a hand full of almond at the bottom of a tree, while another tree might have a squirrel pair racing around the trunk. I like that I can walk up to a bird or a lizard in a yard and they don't run or fly away. I love animals, I like to see them survive in the wild, and even the wild of modern world. There used to be a bunch of wild chickens which lived on the side of the freeway in Yuba City an hour drive from me. I LOVED seeing them peck and move their little babies away from the street and into the bushes. I even saw one rooster cross the street with his brood, at the crossing signal! It was hilarious. Unfortunately the freeway was "improved" and now those animals have been rounded up. :( But when I think of how many years they hung out, I still smile. :) Life might get me down but animals bring that joy bubbling back up. It makes me happy when fat little kittens from next door come share my lunch while I'm eating outside. When I dress up and spend an hour on my hair, then he sees me and 2 hours later, the hair is trashed. When we get to go to old car shows, complete with pinup chicks! When I drive to my parents house, and their old dog goes nuts, almost jumping over the fence to come greet me.... that dog loves me.

My happy list would be way to long Mostly i enjoy being contagious to others when i am happy and watch their spirits lift. Many things contribute to my happiness...sunset, sunrise, ocean, wind, mountains, storms, Nature...sun, moon and stars helps me to navigate when i get tangled in the forest, so i am happy when i see them... oceanwynds

Happiness is short term emotion to me ... I seek contentment in the long term pretty much anything makes me happy .. am very easily pleased and moved to joy contentment is far harder to find, or define, and to maintain

It's the feeling you get when you think in your head that something happened and it was good. it can be a long lasting feeling or a short one. Contentment as softness put it is another kind. That's the feeling you get when everything in your life is going to be okay and your happy with it mostly. I've felt that two times in my life. Once when i gave my life over to God the first time and once recently when I professed being in love for the first time at 40. Each time..i did wake and say all is right in my world. Each time carried bliss to me. As a person, i am mostly happy with who i am..I know i need to work on things but i am content that i at least know this. That's happy for me as well. I couldn't imagine being scared of being happy unless your too afraid to live.

being with my mistress truly makes me happy ..from the moment when she walks in the door love the sparkle in her eyes when she sees me naked and her smile [:)] love our times together too ..only complaint is time goes by way too fast when we see each other ..no fair --lol being with good friends ...family ...seeing my kids happy makes me happy too [:)] 3 kids in college now we dont get together as much but when we do the holidays are special [:)] i swear though being with her has to be the best 2 hours or 4 hours of my week ..just wish one day it can be more a full time thing ..[:)] enjoy and have fun ..lifes too short ..mal

i need the external influences since i have depression and i dont take drugs for it. side effects suck like lack of sex drive. kittens and babies my UMs showing their love and respect for me. real friends who understand me.Dancing makes me very happy

Things that make me happy: Making my Master smile Graduating from college a Beautiful late summer day (like today) Sunsets/sunrises a newborn baby Spending time with my family/friends Leaves changing in the fall Birds singing There are many more if i tried to list them all i would be here for 2 days. I am a basically happy person. The ones above are not neccersally in order of importance except the first one. Matt's littleone

Knowing I did a good job? That's not just a BSDM thing, I work for a living too.... Also hearing a good song on the radio I haven't heard in awhile. Playing my music live to an enthusiastic audience. Knowing it was a good gig... I'm not that much of a sentimental slave...
