The correct way to deal with a toilet, of course, is to put the seat down and the lid down as well. There is no point in looking at the gaping yaw of a toilet. You want to urinate without raising the lid? Install a urinal (it's not that hard, if you have the room).

My girl and I don't currently live together so it's not an issue we've really dealt with to this particular issue to much. My family was my Mother, my father, three sons and hell we had a male cat. It was a fight that wasn't worth fighting for her. She'd much rather have had us taking out the garbage and cleaning up the living room. I have lived in more gender equivalent living situations since then. Most notably in college where I lived a suite that was two thirds women. In such situations I have generally tried to be more considerate but you're facing 20 or so years of not caring.

There are things worse than leaving the seat up... such as covering the bowl with tightly stretched plastic wrap. Trust me, frat boys think of things like that. What I hate is the passive aggressive booby trapping of toilet lids. Guys, you know what I mean.... installing those fuzzy toilet lid covers so the lid will not stay up unless you hold it. Ladies... imagine trying to take a pee with one foot in the air to keep the lid up.. really messes up the aim. Stefan

When Master and I first moved in together he was so considerate about the toilet seat. He always put it down for me. However, I told him that I was smart enough to look before I sat down and didnt mind if he wanted to leave it up. He never went so far as to tell me to put it up when I was done but that would be kind of hot in my opinion... in a symbolic kind of way..... Basically, the toilet seat gets left wheverever it was whenever it was used last and then the new user adjust it to thier own needs. Maggi

I understand that there's some ages you can't expect much from them, but why can't you train a little one, if not to little to stay out of the toilet, animals can be trained to stay out of the toilet too. It's certaintly the easiest rout just to put the lid down, since training takes time and effort, but this idea of make it so they can't instead of teaching them not to so they won't, is a slippery slope to go down. quote: ORIGINAL: MissIsis If it is a dominant/submissive household, I would think it would be the dominants way, unless there is a really good argument, like an animal or a little one that could think it is a play or drink pool. theq, Geesh! People turn such a simple thing into something needlessly complex. In my house, both toilet seat and cover are down when not in use. Looking into a toilet isn't attractive. Breathing evaporated waste isn't inviting, let alone healthy. And then there is the issue of stray, disoriented women who've unwittingly fallen in and become trapped. I avoid these problems with a simple solution: toilet seat down, toilet cover down. It takes but a fraction of a second to lift both seat and cover when the toilet is to be used. Elan.
