I hate shoes but have a couple of pieces of advice: (1) Make sure the shoes fit. This is about more than just numeric size; different makes and models are simply shaped differently, and you need one that matches your foot. (As an example, I have one pair of shoes with a higher heel than most of my dress shoes, but it is far more comfortable simply because it is arched in a way that follows the curve of my foot.) When you find a brand that works for you, try other shoes in the same brand. (2) Break them in gradually before committing to wearing them all day. I tend to do this at work; I always have two pairs of shoes under my desk--one broken-in comfy pair and one new needs-to-be-broken-in pair. I change back and forth throughout the day, never wearing the new one long enough for a blister to develop.
