Sanity -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 5:53:56 AM)

Posting Obama gaffes is tattling, but talking pure trash about Palin is an important lesson in civics.

[sm=applause.gif]

That's kind of like, Obama's church, his pastor, and his family are off limits. And experience doesn't matter in Obama's case. And Obama's wasn't an affirmative action nomination. Nooooo!

But PALIN, on the other hand...

PALIN...

It's a great comment for those that take this kind of crap so seriously - get a grip, guys, there are serious things to talk about. Lipstick, how pathetic. Unless you think that whining over who said what to whom and in what form really matters, but it makes you look like playground tit for tatters. You remind me of the kid who always went to the teacher grassing on others [:D].

But Palin is right wing, so it's ok to trash her.

kittinSol -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 6:01:00 AM)

Considering you guys spent MONTHS talking absolute rubbish about the other side (and are continuing to do so), your newly found sensitivity does come across as trite. At least, take responsibility for it, instead of complaining, it will make you look less hypocritical - and Fox is on your side too, so you have a definite advantage when it comes to slander, insults and ugly tactics :-) .

gina0055 -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 6:12:29 AM)

Oh puhleeeez....taken in context it had NOTHING to do with Palin.  It had to do with the McBush policy agenda.

Oh, did you see the book written by McCain's press secretary?  "It's Like Putting Lipstick on a Pig."

And, READ THIS (MC CAIN SAID THE SAME THING IN RELATION TO HILARY):

That spin has already been discussed in this thread. McCain said it, sure - but he was clearly referencing a policy and not a person.

I have spent months talking trash about the other side. Do you have any posts to confirm that ? Or is this more of you special brand of honesty    "it doesn't matter if it's true as long as it keeps them out of office"

Um, yes....but Obama's remark was also related to the various policies McCain is attempting to sell us, not to Palin.  It's ALL spin and you can't turn it into something it's not.

And Thadius--I'm an advocate for special needs and ESOL kids. I reviewed the transcript of Obama's remarks, and he obviously doesn't know much about special ed kids and was bluffing his way through that answer, but there was no 'cheap shot' there whatsoever.

~faith

Evening faith,

It was that combined with the remarks by Biden... there was a joint attack by the 2 of them today, the lipstick remarks and then this issue.

quote:

Speaking to voters in Columbia, Mo., Biden said:

“I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there’s joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess what folks? If you care about it, why don’t you support stem cell research?”

How is this in any way conceivable as an attack on anything other than those who oppose stem-cell research?

Sanity -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 6:59:56 AM)

If Obama didn't say it in reference to Palin, he was being unclear. He wasn't discussing an issue, he was discussing Palin.

Because the politics of stem sell research is a sale of false hope.

In your opinion.

There is a large body of research that says otherwise.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 7:04:27 AM)

*fast reply*
Obama should have had the intelligence to know that saying something like that, after all of the positive coverage Palin got for her lipstick line, would be viewed as a direct insult to her whether that was his intention or not.  It doesn't take a psychic to know what the fallout would be.  I bet that his PR people cringed when those words were spoken.  They knew they'd have a shitload of damage control to do.

PS. Another Obama thread moved to Random Stupidity. Seems to be a trend.

I think more likely a trend of the stupidity of the topic.

That is though how Republicans win elections.

Create as many shitstorms as possible about inconsequential nonsense to divert people from thinking about the real issues.

The last numbers I've seen were hovering around 50%

What is the current Administration's public approval rating? 10?

My memory is long, ask and you shall indeed receive.

The only way you can claim 50% is by misleadingly using the "fair" category as favorable when it can mean either approve or disapprove.

The majority of polls only use those two categories and Bush has averaged an approval rating of just under 31% with a disapproval rating of just over 65%, the balance being undecided, over the last month.

I think that was very clear.

I think it was also clear that Obama was referring to McCain recycling Bush's policies.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 8:19:38 AM)

It was so clear, (and the topic so random and stupid) that not only has there been wall to wall news on this for the last 24 hours but Obama had to address it today on the stump.

If it was so clear why is he trying to explain it?

kittinSol -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 8:43:00 AM)

Oh, forgive me, it was a fast reply - should have made that clear. It was a general comment, addressed generally, to the general posse of generally pro-Rep, conservative posters on the boards.

Sanity -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 9:58:02 AM)

Obama's crying now, claiming he's just a poor hapless victim in all of this.

So, saying someone is doing a fair job means disapproval now?

That was in response to MzMia by the way, who said she has a long memory while in the same post claiming Bush's approval was at 10%

Thadius -> RE: Does Lipstick on a Pig Now Equal Hockey Mom? (9/10/2008 10:31:35 AM)

I guess the part of this entire thing that confuses me is,  Obama is always so clear about the way he nuances things.  I find it pretty funny that he is now claiming that it was just the use of a old phrase, without realizing how it would be seen.  Remember this is the man that found it necessary to nuance the point at which a baby is entitled to human/civil rights.  How hard is it for a pro-choice person to say "at birth", instead of "it's above my paygrade"?

Just my opinion.

I haven't seen him trying to explain it.  I've seen him questioning why this is even being discussed, since McCain has used the same phrase on more than one occasion.
