Owner has his cam on and I'm watching him prepare for Ike, its hard to watch from so far away. I really hate this, this is a sort of helplessness that makes me unhappy. I wish I was watching him prepare to evacuate, not watch him put boards up and move items off the floor.

I wonder too, if this is going to impact my trip to Austin next week so that I can find an apartment or condo. I'm used to tornadoes, I am not used to hurricanes. I've been through a few small ones in Florida but I was very young and only saw the 'excitement and big storms', not the reality or fear that a hurricane can instill.

Rooms may be at a premium next week there.

I'm packing right now, they called for a mandatory  evac here about an hour ago. Predicted storm surge in my little town: minimal 5 feet, could be quite a bit more.

Take care!

i was worried about my pet heading towards Houston but this time his boss had some smarts canceling the trip. he will have to make the trip once the hurricane blows over to survey the construction site damage.

Flooding is happening in parts of Mississippi too -

"Mississippi seeing unexpected flooding from Ike"

Posted Sept. 11, 2008
By J. R. Welsh | Biloxi Sun Herald

"BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — Hurricane Ike threw an unexpected surprise this morning to residents here, causing the Jourdan River to rise and again flood neighborhoods just now drying out from Gustav.

City officials said low-lying areas including parts of North Beach Boulevard and wide sections of the city's Ward 5 began flooding this morning.

"It's the east side of Ike, out in the Gulf," said Bay St. Louis Operations Manager Buzz Olsen.

Areas including Garden Isles, Shoreline Park and other streets off Mississippi 603 were flooded by 9 a.m. The most heavily flooded areas included Chapman Avenue, Central Avenue and Sugarfield Road.

Police were sealing off flooded areas to warn motorists and Olsen said some residents in the worst-hit areas may be once again evacuating."

Humming "Riding the storm out...."

So far, it's just a bit breezy here in Brazoria, County Texas.  My family and I are staying put in Pearland - turns out our zip code isn't under mandatory evacuation.  We are well stocked and as ready as we can be.  I've been through some humdinger hurricanes, and I hope this on isn's terribly vicious.

Good luck to fellow coastal Texans.

Thankfully our reservation was made a few weeks ago, and I just called to double check. I told R that I'd be happy to sleep in the jacuzzi tub if we had to share the room.

My thoughts are with everyone within the area expected to be impacted, our posters and strangers alike. I really hope everyone is safe and plays it smart by leaving if required.

They said on the News tonight that the Red Cross is running low on money and may have to house and feed thousands of people for weeks so anyone who can please make a donation!
I'll be calling in a donation today.
