One upon a time, yes. Then for a long time I didn't care. Now, I don't believe in "the one".

That's kind of my take on it. Actually, the middle part is a bit different. For the longest time, I cared more than anything. Then I found I didn't care. Now I don't believe in "the one" anymore. I mean, she might come along and prove me wrong, but I grow more doubtful about it with each passing day.

Stephen Stills:
And if you can't be with the one you love

love the one you're with

Dit dit dit dit dit dit dit dit, dit dit dit dit dit dit dit dit, dit dit dit dit dit dit dit dit, dit dit dit, dit dit dit.

And...if you're not with anyone, love yourself [;)]

darchChylde -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/11/2008 11:53:10 AM)

I know and am owned by the one I want.  But, if I were to be honest I'd have to tell myself that somewhere there probably is someone with more time and energy available to me; someone who was not married, poly, a switch and too young.  But while those arbitrary "no no's" were once the immediate signs for me to back away and be "just friends" with a woman; I doubt I'd have fallen in love with Ma'am, become a part of a strong and loving family or learned to be open and honest about myself with myself and another were they not part of who She is, as they are things that kept Her from being too clingy and needy with me, and thus causing me to run.

The distance (I can't think of a better word) caused by those things actually gave me much needed room to not be so frightened by my vulnerability as to run (and stay) away.  So while I cannot say that Ma'am was all I ever wanted, She did turn out to be all that I needed when I was wrongly foolish enough to actually believe that I knew what was best for me.

Sylverdawn -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/11/2008 12:39:38 PM)

As in have I met the ONE.. yes and no...

StrictnSaucy -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/11/2008 1:28:17 PM)

Yes I do......  kissed a few frogs before I met him though.  It was only today I was thinking how truly blessed I am to be in such a relationship - nice question!

Saint -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/11/2008 1:48:06 PM)

Do I know the one I want? No, because I do not want her per se. But I do know the one that I want to be owned by. However, I never will be what she wants and so we will simply remain good friends while I continue my search for another similar to her.

Venatrix -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/11/2008 2:51:18 PM)

Yes, I know.

That's it.  Simple question.

Yes Mistress, I do!  You've made me very happy and I can't imagine being owned by anyone but YOU! [8D]

"Know" in the biblical sense? Certainly not. "Know" in the sense of having met in person? No, not that either. "Know" as in having had conversations with? Nope, not even that. But I think I know.

And while G.I. Joe said that knowing is half the battle, in practice, it seems to end up being substantially less than that. Shame on Joe for lying to a little kid [>:]

CalifChick -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/11/2008 5:15:08 PM)

The flip side to the question... I've never thought I was anyone's "one".

The strange thing is that with guys I never doubted it, women, every time.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/11/2008 7:22:49 PM)

This is interesting, I did not interpret the OP as "do you believe that there is ONE for you", I read it as "do you have someone in your sights right now".

Geez, that's a depressing question. We don't even wanna think about that. Totally off-topic.

I knew him long before we ever met.  He came to me a dark angel in my dreams.  Held me in his arms and flew me to the stars.  He showed me, sanctity of the soul through the most blissful torments of palest flesh.  He gave me the gift of the heart and soul enslaved, entranced, entwined with his own.   His pleasure, his happiness my bliss.

He is my Lord, my Master, my God of darkest, deepest, desires.  He is my everything.

Do I know the one I want?  Oh yes, and even better, he knows me. [:D]

I am like an apple with a razor in it - sweet until you bite into me. [sm=evil.gif]

To please and be pleasing to Him, always, in all ways. [:D]

pinnipedster -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/12/2008 2:18:41 AM)

Actually (veering slightly) a female friend of mine asked me recently what I thought "my type" was.  And I kind of went blank.   I mean, I can list a bunch of criteria and hope that she will meet a good portion of them -- as well as some undesirable traits I of which I hope she would have few or none.  But actually picturing her, or thinking what her personality would be like....?  Hmmm.  Too many good answers!  I'm attracted to all sorts of different women -- not just in appearance (though that is true) but personality types.  It was odd, because I don't think I'd ever really considered the question before in exactly those terms.

The main criteria she has to meet, of course, is actually wanting *me*.   Once I find that, a lot of other things can be worked out or compromised on...

(The lady who asked me the question is "in the ballpark" in my book, but sadly is not attracted to me, though we're good friends.  Frustrating....)

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/12/2008 5:21:13 AM)

My big issue is discerning the difference between "want" and "need".  My Spring Fling really refocused me in terms of what things I have to have from a relationship, and won't be truly happy without---and it's not all the same as the list of things that I want.  There's a fair amount of crossover, but the needs have to come first from now on.  That means that I have turned away from some fine men, too!  But, there are behaviors that cannot be trained into a person, they have to come from inside.  My past shows me what I can't live without, as long as I remember to listen!

Actually, what you describe is what I think is a very good thing pinnipedster!  To me, it means you're open to many possibilities that may come your way.  If I may, it seems to me that many have a vision of what someone must look like and exactly what traits they must have to the point where they greatly limit themselves and miss out on opportunities to have great relationships with people who might be exactly what they need in their lives.  That lack of flexibility often seems to impede people from being open to what a higher power is trying to tell them they perhaps should have. "ZOMG"?

I get "OMG", but what's the Z?

JerryFrankster -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/12/2008 8:51:30 AM)

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ZOMG

Ironically over-emphatic intentional typo related to the proximity of the z key to the shift key.

PsyVamp -> RE: Do you know the one you want? (9/12/2008 7:01:43 PM)

I do not know yet the one that I want.
I do not know him personally, but I believe he is out there.
(Then again, maybe I watched too many x-files episodes and nobody is really "out there"  )
