BunnyBoyBrandon -> BDSM and airport security (9/11/2008 2:27:05 PM)

My new pictures got denied for some reason, so excuse the faceless bunny for now. =_=

As stated above I was curious about how traveling with your Bondage or Rubber gear would play out with the tight airport security, I was planning on traveling soon and was not sure what my rights are with this sort of ordeal. Like I dont want to get there and for some reason them thinking my latex outfit is considered bomb materials and have to confinscate it, know what I mean? Or if I took restraints and would be arrested. I would just rather be safe than sorry.

Any insight or previous experiences would be greatly appreciated before I board.

If you're unsure if you can take something in a carry-on, put it in your luggage for the hold.  This applies to all things, not just kink.

I have great fun trying to take my medical stuff on planes, so now I've given up, and it all just gets checked.

On an obvious note... if you have knives/medical play kit, put it in the hold.

Hello bunny,
Well bunny honey, I nearly got deported for butt plugs in So. Korea.

Where you travel is as important as what you are bringing.

A little more info might help those of us who travel give you guidance.

well wishes,
sunshine

Ship ahead for the highest level of safety - UPS, Fedex, whatever.

Next down from that, pack it in your checked baggage.  Put everything in large clear ziploc bags, and write on the outside of the bags "SEX TOYS, PLEASE DO NOT HANDLE" or something like that.

Don't take restraints in your carry-on luggage.

Edited to say:  I was only thinking about travel within the U.S.

I just recently flew to Denver for the Thunder in the Mountains convention - which was amazing by the way - and I took a very, very heavy suitcase of toys there and back (make sure you check the weight to be under 40 lbs. - mine were all close to 50+ - I checked them - and each time - they were opened by TSA with a little love note from them - on the trip back - I had a personal note in it - "Very cool goodies!"

Just be smart, my suggestion like Cali's, send ahead if you're really concerned so you can have a tracking number via Fedex, UPS, Etc...okay to forward directly to the hotel you might be staying at also, just check with the conceirge of the hotel for any special requirements they may have for receiving.

Just have fun!

OttersSwim -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/11/2008 2:48:14 PM)

Think about the cost of a missed flight because some security person did not understand your stuff and pulls you out and you end up in a little room for 4 hours explaining your lifestyle choices.

Pack it, or ship it, don't wear it.  My 2c.  :)

camille65 -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/11/2008 2:49:33 PM)

I also include an obvious list of things that I've packed along with my 'Sex Toys, Please Do Not Handle' because I'm tired of things disappearing from my luggage. Since doing that I've not had any issues.

Make sure you have a TSA approved lock, it makes it faster and easier for all involved.

and added to what everyone else has said >
if you are flying with a one-way ticket>>> they automatically pull you off the ticket line and go through ALL your luggage...carry-on and the ones you would have sent to baggage.......automatically scan you with the wand thingy....
I learned that one the hard way...
Still remember all my things laid out in front of everyone passing by the security table...yeesh..

Pack it in your checked luggage and you shouldn't have any problems. Master travels with electronic parts, cables and tools and as long as it is in checked luggage they don't really hassle him about any of it. We have traveled together with toys...LOTS of toys and not even a comment as long as it was checked. Oh..it is easier to stop off at a Drugstore and pick up lubricants, toiletries and toothpaste than pack it and risk it spilling if squooshed.

If you do have to open your bags, you can ask for it to be done in private.  No sense scaring innocent bystanders.

Actually, the highest level of safety is to say "screw it" and drive. That way you can bring nail clippers, and shampoo, and wear shoes, and everything! [8|]

Skyfire -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/11/2008 4:39:13 PM)

As many others have said, just put it in your checked luggage with the new TSA locks on it.  I have traveled with my toys nationally and internationally without incident.  The bags are always inspected, I have a collection of all the little white notes they put in your bags after they have been hand searched.  I tend to leave the needles at home.  Knives are fine as long as they are sheathed.  You do not want someone to stick themselves while inspecting your bags, strange blood=bad.

I've been travelling with kinky stuff in my carry-on for years.  I could probably make it easier on myself and check it, but I love the look on their faces when they have to search my bag for random screening.  I'm an asshole like that.

Any kind of blade or spikey item they can confiscate, and they will also confiscate handcuffs, all of which I know from experience.  But I've made it through security very recently with a leather corset, riding crop, various leather restraints, collar, floggers, plugs, et cetera, and had no problems.

Another thing to consider is that you may have to check your lube or any other kind of oil/liquid you use if it's in bottles greater than 3 oz.

What country are you from and where were you flying to?  I flew one-way from Florida to New Hampshire for my move and they didn't give me ANY kind of additional screening, Hell, they didn't even open my checked bags.

BunnyBoyBrandon -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/11/2008 8:32:57 PM)

Thanks a ton for that info and yes, most of the stuff I wish to bring is clothing more than toys.

You might think it's funny now, but sooner or later they're going to "catch" somebody with a big wad of plastique molded into a butt plug (just cross the Shoe Bomber with goatse.cx), and flying is gonna get REALLY interesting...

Why do you think everyone who works for the TSA wears rubber gloves? [;)]

chamberqueen -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/12/2008 5:53:56 AM)

I travel around the world so I have run into this many times.  If I carry toys I put as many of them as I can in the zippered side pouch of the suitcase to be checked.  They will be seen by Xray but not out for public display if the suitcase is opened.  If you carry lubricating lotion put it in a baggie because it tends to leak at high altitudes.  Anything metallic, like nipple clips, are best placed in the check on bag.  Clothing should be absolutely no problem.  I often carry my collar in my carry on bag just because I like to have it with me and would feel terrible if my luggage got lost and it went with it, and I have never had a problem with that.  If going to a country like Singapore simply leave toys at home.  They have much stricter rules and you can end up in jail.

baela -> RE: BDSM and airport security (9/12/2008 6:26:15 AM)

i've had enough trouble trying to travel with knitting needles in my carry-on luggage, and those are supposed to be allowed. i can't even imagine trying to travel with anything more interesting with that in my carry-on. When i was traveling to and from Guatemala in March '02, i got searched by wand twice on the way down and my luggage (both kinds) was searched at least five times before even leaving Guatemala on the way back. And that was back when i was an innocent 17 year-old traveling with my senior class on a mission trip!

Erg.. trying to think about how i would feel if my collar got confiscated makes my stomach hurt. Why don't you wear it (or maybe i'm just being naiive)? Then, when the metal detector goes off and they wand you, it's clear that the metal is around your neck.

Ooh, this is just the thread I needed!

What about vibrators? I've heard some hearsay about TSA guys thinking they were bombs, but it seems a bit far-fetched to me. Anyone know about this?

If you pack vibrators in your carry on, be they battery operated or plug in style they will make you prove that they are what they appear to be. You will be required to turn it on and plug it in right at the security area.

So leave the fun buzzy in the checked bagage unless you are wearing an insertable that can't be detected lol

remote eggs can be fun and the remote part kinda looks like a normal car starter *S*
