FirmhandKY -> Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 2:18:55 PM)

This is just the kind of stuff that I expect from the "principled" intelligentsia that makes up the left ...

Out-Takes: Behind The Atlantic's McCain Cover

quote:

As far as it goes it is workmanlike enough and presents McCain, unlike the Obama covers we are used to seeing, without the halo. Given the level to which the owner and the staff of the Atlantic are in the tank for Obama -- the owner's wife, Katherine Brittain Bradley, is on record in one instance for $28,500.00 to committees supporting Barack Obama-- even the cover-lines are not half-bad if a bit half-hearted. I'd only remark that it is no accident that the Atlantic's editor approved the upper red slash bar with the words "Porn" and "Adultery" in it. Editors, especially those whose paycheck depends on displaying their bias for their boss, love those little gotcha games. I know. I played them too.

But that's not where the Atlantic cover story stops.

... not by a long shot.

Photos are at the url.

All this is going on because neither candidate has any real policies so the media has inches to fill so they fill them with froth. Both sides are doing it.

TheHeretic -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 2:32:03 PM)

       No, Firm.  Really.  It's ok.  You see, McCain is a Republican.  They're baa-aaad.  Standard rules of ethical behavior don't apply when you're dealing with them.

You seem to be implying the Republican media is ethical which I'm sure you know that is total bananas. American elections are all about mud slinging because politicians won't discuss their own policies, if they've got any but who knows if they have or not. One could have some sympathy with your view if McCain talked about his policies rather than his opponent's hypothetical policies as seen by the Republicans.

define: intelligentsia

Musicmystery -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 3:04:12 PM)

I know what intelligensia means. I also know what bullshit means. And nonsense.

Perhaps you can look up "argument," "logic," or "discourse."

politicians won't discuss their own policies,

       The writer of the piece chose to focus very heavily on Vietnam, and trying to read the tea leaves, but if you take the time to read the article this sleazy photographer was hired to do the cover for, you'll find McC was quite willing to discuss policy.

Yeah, I realized a long time ago, anything that gets them into power is inherently "moral".

What I find particularly telling in this case is that she BRAGGED about it.

In her world, she was "chic", "hip" and "with it" I guess, and figured "everyone she knows" would see it the same way.

Who was it that said in astonishment, after Bush won his second term "He couldn't have won!  I don't know anyone that voted for him!" [:D]

You mean he's actually got some?  I have yet to find any media, Republican or otherwise that has published his policies in anything other than the most vague terms which are open to all sorts of interpretation so he could counter any attack on them as being out of context, misconstrued or give some other defence. I know one of his policies is 'Change' but what does that noun mean in terms of policy? He needs to use it as a verb and tell use what the noun is he is going to change.

I'm glad you've heard of the terms before.

Perhaps you can demonstration some of them in a post, rather than "What the fuck are you talking about? "

I'd address your point if you raised one.

Instead, you simply throw out a ridiculous claim that the left is comprised of unprincipled intelligentsia, even implying the three terms are equivalent.

So I repeat: What the fuck are you talking about?

I tried to use small words for you.

See my post above.

FYI:

Your abrasive comments do nothing to engender much in the way of serious response.  Change your tone, I'll engage, otherwise, feel free to go on to another thread of your choosing.

Musicmystery -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 3:43:03 PM)

We're going in circles. You begin with a sweeping denunciation, without ever making a real claim, then pretend you're defending the high ground.

There's nothing here about which to engage---you haven't said anything of substance!

All we've established is that you disagree with educated people and find intelligence unethical.

bipolarber -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 3:49:50 PM)

Oh, I agree with you, Firm... it's a terrible cover!

And I agreed with you when you brought the same objection up, over Barack and Michelle Obama's "satire" cover of the New Yorker....  Um, you did voice your objection to THAT peice of partisan shit, didn't you?

(checking back)

Nope... I guess you didn't.

TheHeretic -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 3:49:59 PM)

        Distractions and non-issues, Muse.  Did you bother to read the initial link at all, or are you just blustering about applying a literalistic standard to metaphorical use of language again?

Musicmystery -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 3:52:42 PM)

Nope. He started with a sweeping claim. Now we're twisting all over the place pretending it ain't so.

Simple reading comprehension at this point.

       Yes.  That was clearly stated as a matter of his personal expectation.  Then he brought forth an example for discussion.  Your note in red pen is well established.  Care to comment on the topic?

rook42 -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 6:42:48 PM)

That aside... The pictures are really childish enough to be quite innocent.

I highly doubt McCain would forget to wipe his mouth after a round of eating babies... Likewise, I highly doubt his second wife wore that much lipstick while he was cheating on his first. I mean, geez...

No, I'm not anti-McCain. But these pictures lack enough truthiness to actually be looked at as anything other than silly, getting up in arms would likewise be silly.

TheHeretic -> RE: Political Porno ... (9/14/2008 6:49:54 PM)

       It is a breach of ethics, whether they were incompetent with the finished product or not.
