With the best of em...

Vendaval -> RE: "The Economy is in a Crisis!" says John McCain (9/16/2008 7:44:41 PM)

Seems you are well prepared for any survival situation and to pass on your genetic code to the willing females.

Thadius -> RE: "The Economy is in a Crisis!" says John McCain (9/16/2008 7:49:54 PM)

Not so sure how I would survive a nuke strike, but I would do my damndest.  I am selfish like that.[;)]

That is a hard call for me to make.  We are very close to Diablo Nuclear Power Plant.  Surviving after the initial disaster is not always better than dying first.

Your dad is a wise man.  You know how to hunt, fish and purify water, yes?

These are great skills, for some reason I am thinking of  Tom Joad, from one of my
favorite books and movie "The Grapes of Wrath".   YouTube - "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940) Part 3

Here are some other great scenes, from the Great Depression.

YouTube - Scenes from the Great Depression

I don't have these skills, I will have to go make a deal with Popeye.
Popeye? can you spare a can of creamed corn and a dime?

Yes, they caved in to political pressure from people who have no clue what they're talking about so they don't get voted out by people who have no clue what they are talking about.

So you're saying that the Democrats in Congress are spineless and the constituents who send them there are idiots.

Your words, not mine...

quote:

The domestic drilling being proposed will account for a small fraction of our consumption and won't be available for at least ten years.

That's what they said ten years ago.

AND AGAIN,  If only the Democrats were JUST blocking new oil production... but you can't name any significant energy systems or proposals that Democrats are willing to support. (Wind and solar isn't enough).

quote:

Yet the Republicans have convinced all the people who have no clue what they're talking about that it will bring back $1.85 per gallon gas, we'll all be driving Hummers, peace and prosperity will reign, the birds will sing, the flowers will bloom and we won't have a care in the world.

Demonizing SUVs won't keep Grandma warm this winter, and it won't keep American manufacturing in business. And some people require SUVs for their work or their lifestyle, neither of which do  I want my government controlling

Choke off energy and we will be forced into a recession by definition - we'll have to slow growth. But open the energy spigots and you'll fuel growth.

Obama represents recession, Republicans represent growth.

The choice is a no brainer!

Without repeating everything:

1)  Yes, I am saying the Democrats in Congress are spineless.  Unlike you, I don't believe this is an us-against- them game of who can score the most political points.  The constituents who sent them there are no more idiots than those that sent the similarly ineffective Republicans to Congress.

2)  No, wind and solar are not enough and while I think McCain's proposal to build more nuclear plants is good on principle, he has not presented anything to counter the safety concerns (the not in my backyard argument) or the question of what to do with the nuclear waste.

3)  Really?  Some people require Hummers/SUV's for their work and lifestyle?  Wonder what they used 15 years ago before these oversized fashion statements became requirements?

It's not about political points, it's about energy. We need it, the Democrats are against it, and the Republicans are for it.

We have a perfectly safe repository for our nuclear waste in Yucca Mountain, if only Harry Reid could LEAD us on this issue rather than block the way. So far as the "not in my back yard" mentality goes it's always the Greens who scream that mantra.

Greens who the Democrats are completely beholden to.

Absolutely. Not everyone's life and / or business can fit onto a moped.

We need another round of tax cuts and a rogue nation to invade; this will help balance the budget, bolster the economy, and increase the number of Americans covered by healthy insurance.

It might be amusing, but the way the economy is going, I might
be replacing these scenes with some new and modern scenes in
the USA soon.

Give the Democrats in Congress a Democrat President and you can count on it.

Mz Mia, if you were starving all I'd have to do to make you my "Bitch" would be to wave a can of creamed CORN in front of you?

I was thinking that might make him lunch.Slow roasted popeye's and creamed corn.

MissSCD -> RE: "The Economy is in a Crisis!" says John McCain (9/17/2008 4:49:41 PM)

I know the war and oil prices have crippled us.  We continue to overspend.
The thing about McCain is he has been in this 26 years.  He has done nothing yet.
We need some new blood in there because we are crumbling down.
I guess I did not think it would be this soon.
Our local news is just as scary as the big cities now.
I honestly do not know how to fix it, and I don't think anyone else can, but why would we want to put someone in there who has done nothing for the past 26 years other than serve his country?  He will lead us into another four years of war whch we cannot afford.

Regards, MissSCD

I agree MissSCD.
I was thinking about a thread in which members could report what
is going on in their own little communities.
Between the stock market tumbles, the never-ending war in Iraq, the state of our economy, the
rising unemployment and underemployment, the layoffs, the housing crisis, the oil/gas situation,
the rising costs of food and essential items, and on and on and on.

OH! we are finally in a recession? [8|]
We are free-falling downhill at a rapid pace, we may actually be entering into the 21st century depression fairly soon.
The situation is perilous at best.

MissSCD -> RE: "The Economy is in a Crisis!" says John McCain (9/17/2008 8:16:05 PM)

Home town reports could be a thread for you, MzMia.  I know my home town is no longer the small town I grew up in.
Have a blessed day.

Regards, MissSCD

You know what Mz. Mia, I think you should have your own blog.  Seriously, you could post your opinions and have an advice column and anything else you want.
