Laughs... a drunk Goth with a weapon?  Nahhhhh.... scary just in thought.  I will, however, have a Kamikazee in my hand at all times.  Now THAT'S fun.

Will you be dressing up like an Indian?

DomDaddy, of course the Dems want to raise everyone's taxes, how can they give away $845 BILLION "more" of our Taxdollars to "foreign countries" if they don't raise taxes?
Abadabba is said to have a $1.4 TRILLION tax increase "in his back pocket."

The same lies came out when Clinton first budget and tax bill. Raising the TOP rates I think it was 3% was going to raise MY taxes. It was bullshit then and it is bullshit now. EVERY repub voted against it as every dem voted for it. Gore (pres. of the senate) had to break a tie.

All that did was create 20 million jobs, raised median family wages by $7,500/yr. (those wages are now DOWN $2,500/yr.) and for the last 3 years...a fucking federal surplus some of which actually paid DOWN some federal debt or it would be even higher now.

Someone has to pay for the war and the national debt. To think otherwise is to have ones head in the sand.

Please hoodie point out my use of the word pariah...and I take offence at your depiction of my championing the Democrats.I am for this particular candidate at this particular time and place, and as  a result of watching 8 years of the most inept reprehensible governing it has been my displeasure to witness. Now if you think any of us have been well served by the current crop of misfits and rich boys sons running things these last 8 years vote for McSame....me I'm going the other way and giving the other guy a shot...lord knows he can't possibly do any worse...

laughs.... oh so because you haven't used the word...the meaning isn't there?  My gosh... splitting hairs much?

You take offense?  So you mean to tell me in the last 8 years there isn't a SINGLE thing a Republican official ANYWHERE has done that's right?  That's basically what you've been saying.  So if you aren't championing Democrats..what is it?

I'm pretty much have no dog in this fight.  I'm astounded that these two clowns are the best my country can offer up.  To me that is FAR telling than the Rep. or Dem. brand combined.  Giving the other guy a shot is good.  However, you're deluded if you think the other guy will get a damned thing done.

Politicians, and I see it on a daily basis at the state level, are only out for their careers.  And Obama is no different.  Change doesn't come from just changing policies.  Change comes from getting the stagnant water out of the pool.  Congress is the stagnant water.  The Capitol is the pool.

So you can feign offense all you'd like.  I've seen your castigation of anything Republican, and it makes me sick.  The parties aren't to blame.  It's the people in Washington who are.  When you take on those asshats, then we'll have something to talk about.  And I mean Democrat and Republican alike.

You're one sided banter on this issue is quite telling.
Hoodie I am distressed at the thought nof making you sick(sarcasm). What you have seen is my castigation directed at the current crop of Reublicans in office, and if they haven't made you sick over the last 8 years...you have nothing to fear from anything I have said....The Republican party IMO has been hijacked by the religous right and the neo-cons,a little bit like the tail wagging the dog.Case in point this years standard bearer McSame chose as his running mate a totally unqualified little know Gov.of an under populated state...why... to pander to the core(re: fringe) elements of his party...and yes Hoodie that makes me sick!!!!

And believe it or not.... ready.. I agree with you.  The fringe elements of BOTH parties have taken them hostage.

However what makes me sick is that you're willing to give the Fringe Democrats the right to be at the helm, and then you say they couldn't do any worse?  Obama as been labeled the most Liberal with his voting record, and that's according to CNN's "Reality Check" this morning.  A study was done last year, and I'll have to go find the name of them. At the moment cold medicine is pushing that detail to oblivion.  But you're ok with that?

I'm not.

I am wayyyyyyyyy more okay with the far left controlling my country than I am the far right. The government does not belong in my bedroom, the far right would disagree.

Well being a moderate, I disagree with the far left being in charge.

In the bedroom, I agree.  However, I also think what happens behind closed doors, in the bedroom, should remain behind closed doors, unless of course it is in violation of the law.

But if the government being in the bedroom is the only issue, it would be an easy election, no?

If the bedroom was the only issue I have with the far right, I would be much more congenial towards them. However, that is only the ice cube on the very top of that iceberg.

Who has been running congress for the last 2 years again?  Unless you are referring to the far right of the Dem party...[8|]

Slvemike, I don't like Bush or the Republicans either but you won't solve problems by putting a global socialist leftist in office!
That'll make things worse.
Why is Obama running as a Democrat?
He's as much of a Democrat as Bush is a "Republican!"

And it hasn't even been two years. Of course, the right will never acknowledge that it's their filibustering obstructionist criminals who keep anything from happening on capitol Hill.

Nope, it always comes back to "Waaaah! Clinton got a blowjob! Waaaah!" [8D]

Thadius -> RE: Biden on paying higher taxes "It's time to be patriotic" (9/19/2008 9:10:44 AM)

Indeed it is.  Something should have been accomplished in 2 years, right?  (rhetorical question)

I am still trying to get my head around the 8 years remark though.

As a side note, and more towards the topic of this thread.  I am currently watching the Obama press conference with his statements about the financial situation, and a couple things jumped out at me.  I will discuss those as soon as hard copy of the thing is available... the man sure can dance on a high wire.

FirmhandKY -> RE: Biden on paying higher taxes "It's time to be patriotic" (9/19/2008 9:48:13 AM)

FR:

When I see these debates on "cutting" or "raising" taxes, it always seems to me that almost everyone misses the most important issue.

I think a progressive tax structure is - by it's very definition - dangerous to the type of society we really want to encourage.

The problem is the old "bread and circuses" issue.

When the half (take your pick on the percentage) of the American people can have the political power to force the other half to pay for all their benefits and/or living expenses, and have no tax liability themselves, then our republic is finished (although our democracy will totter on for a few years until a strong-man comes along and kicks the rotted wood from underneath).

I don't care if it's done for all the "best, most moral" reasons in the world, human nature can't be changed, and it turns a strong independent population to dependent, whiny parasites, and causes the ones paying the bill to desert the field for greener pastures.

All normal human reactions, and the road we have been going down ever since the concept of a "progressive" income tax was enacted.

Just curious about something (I know it happens quite a bit).

Are those folks that don't pay any taxes less patriotic, than those that pay them?

a push to the left maybe.... but the pendulum swinging from the far right to the far left?  Absolutely absurd to think that would correct the wrongs of the past 8 years.

But Obama, even as President, still will have the same cast of characters in Washington, the very same who've allowed the ridiculous spending over the past 8 years.  Congress didn't find a spending bill they didn't like, and George Bush lost his veto pen.

Pure and simple... replacement at the Presidential level alone isn't going to solve anything.  And in 4 years, when the country is no where near as better, no matter which candidate gets into office..... you can say you heard it hear first.

Be prepared for governmental shutdowns.  Be prepared for gridlock on everything.  Fillibusters will increase to an all time high.  There will be no veto-proof majorities anywhere.  And legislation will be crafted and voted on straight down party lines.

Now if that's what you want, great.  Have at it.  I prefer that we yank em all out, kicking and screaming, get MONEY out of politics, and put in fresh people with fresh ideas who don't wear a red or a blue stripe down their spine.

LaTigresse -> RE: Biden on paying higher taxes "It's time to be patriotic" (9/19/2008 2:32:20 PM)

good luck with that

......there are, broadly, two sorts of people that don't pay taxes...the very poor, because they don't make enough to qualify, and the very rich, because they pay people to help them avoid paying taxes.
The former are potentially just as patriotic as anyone else. The latter are a different matter. What do taxes pay for? The military for one thing.........all sorts of federally funded infrastructure stuff for another. Taxes pay for things that a nation has decided it needs. So, not paying taxes when you can afford to? Unpatriotic, almost by definition.
