Yeah FDD,this sounds so simplistic when compared to"you can see Russia from Alaska"sound bite.Imgine a politician having an informed discussion about the issues, rather than the view.

What do you think people in Ohio, Colorado, Nevada, and Pennsylvania are going to care more about?

Palin saying you can see Russia from Alaska or Biden admitting their taxes are going to go up?

I think anyone with half a brain realizes that it's going to happen, no matter who wins... The US is so leveraged right now that we are in very real danger of collapsing economically, and perhaps taking a good chunk of the world's economy with us.  Bush Co. have spent us into a deep dark hole. Literally, I heard one of the guys from the Bank of America describe the US as: "Imagine the US as a single household... Now, imagine that household suddenly doubling its mortgage payments, it's credit cards and it's student loans...and doubling the interst rate on all of it."  THAT's the situation we're in.

Solutions:

Radically cut spending.
Increase taxes
Make the rich finally pay their fair share.
Stimulate new industry that will make us energy independant.

Hmmm... we are going to get to put a dollar value on our patriotism.  The more we pay in taxes the more patriotic we are.  Now that is motivational.  Sweet, so do I get a bigger flag to fly with my tax bill?  Oh and where do we get to post our tax statements to show how patriotic we are.

That remark really got me, however it was the open admission of wanting to redistribute wealth that was far more frightening.  So let me see if I understand this now.  We are going to nationalize healthcare, redistribute wealth, and institute a universal (read mandatory) volunteer system, under the Obama administration?  Sounds an awful lot like another type of government to me...

It would seem that way Thadius... at least in an Obama administration.

It is shit like this that is going to prevent me from voting for a candidate I am leaning towards, just to make sure the candidate I am against doesn't get elected.

I remember John Kerry said something like this back in 2004 that he enjoys paying taxes because it's the American thing to do or something like that....

This is what Democrats think. They think you should be happy to pay your taxes because it supports the government. Of course what they dont tell you is they will mismanage your money and it will likely land in some politician's pocket or sit in some slush fund somewhere.

On a fiscal sense...I don't know what country you've been watching. Income has been redistributed from poor and working class to wall street and the investor class for almost 30 continous years. How is it that wealth has been redistributed to the bottom HALF 50 % of working Americans who are poorer everyday when adjusted for inflation.

The bottom 1/2 of income has risen about 1-3% overall since the 70's while the investors and corporate profits have gone up over 30% in that same period and this is on top of wild profits susequent to the Viet Nam war.

This is an especially unusual position to take when we are in the process as we type here on this board of redistributing $100's of BILLIONS of income to wall street. We have been redistributing income in this country alright...from the young to the old and from the poor to the rich.

10% of the richest people now own 85% of our wealth in this country. This is directly if maybe partially as a result of the paper-traders (capitalist) buying and selling something and allowed to call that income capital gains or carried interest...whatever those are and pay 15% federal tax. While you could be on their highest paid staff and make something called a salary...oh plus tips and wages and pay 35%.

Shall I again go into farm subsidies ?

There is your redistribution of income.

Hmmm.... So how do you explain folks that have become wealthy from the bottom tiers?  It must be some sort of government program that helped them out.

I guess it would be best if I just stop trying to move up the economic ladder.  It seems I will be better rewarded for being stagnant or for going backwards...

What percentage of that bottom 50% actually pay taxes again?

Yea, I agree. We should just go ahead and just borrow all $3.3 TRILLION every year and pay NO taxes. Afterall, we won't be alive when the young today go out into that magificent job market to make $50/hr (you think ?) and take home 20 when all of this immoral fiscal child abuse finally comes to an end.

Sometimes I do wonder just what country some people who contribute on these boards...have been living and in and watching. I think far too many want to believe in the fantasy of a free lunch.

Taxes are a liablity for the tax payer AND the govt. spender. SPENDING has gone up geometrically so borrowing has right along with it. What will we call it when all of this partying comes to an end...revenue inhancements ? Taxes will remain low...for some but those revenue inhancements are the ones that really get ya.

Did you actually read the link?

Unless you make more than $250k/yr your taxes are NOT going up.

As the article stated, 4 of 5 taxpayers will receive cuts.

What will their tax rates be under these "cuts"?  Will their weekly or biweekly taxes withheld be lower, higher, or the same?

I must have a big American flag coming out of my ass based on what I'm already paying.  I'd have to add some sparklers and fireworks if it went up any more.   And an apple pie too.

Someone's been reading Horatio Algier just a little too much, I think... Sorry, but the number of people who take some basic idea and manage it into a vast fortune just doesn't happen all that often. Reality sucks, I know. But the writings of some 1930 economic pornographer shouldn't be used as the basis for an equitable tax system.

Funny how the moment anyone says that those at the top of the fucking ladder should actually give something back to the system that made them filthy stinking rich, suddenly we're all comunists.

Sorry, but that shit isn't going to fly much longer.

Sometimes, I think the French had the right idea... and if this crap continues, I think that madame Gillotine will once again have her day....

Frightening huh?

You mean we haven't had a redistribution of wealth going on in this country for the last 8 years?

There is more disparity in wealth in this country today then at any time since the 1920's.

Coincidentally, we also seem to be developing an economic crisis that may yet rival the Great Depression.
